Omg so happy to watch this!!!!! I'm watching this cuz our anniversary is soon+ plus my husbands birthday is in February , so I'm giving myself some time to build this as a gift for him😍😍😍wish me luck
If you're a woodworker and love it just like me, the key to life is coming up from the basement/shop or wherever you work smelling of wood. Call it woodworkers cologne. Pine is cheap and easy to work with, hardwoods are beautiful but pricey and tougher on your tools. Pine also loves to warp over time more than hardwoods, even when dried. Love the vid!
Nice work John i did Woodworking professionally for over 20 years and it. Was one of my hobbies. For over 25 years Due to limited storage space i used a straight edge/ router set up as my “jointer with good success ive always third to buy good quality 1/2” shank. Router bits and keep them As sharp as possible Its funny because my 26 year old son. Who. Grew up watching and working with me Has been buying his own woodworking tool colletion. Now that he. Has completed college and is working full time etc. and recently he was. Complaining about the. High cost of router bits to me my advice was to do what i did and slowly. Add to the collection as you need that bit or size i started out with a. Non carbide kit from Sears that i paid like 12 dollars for on sale Most of which bits i still have in my setup but have replaced. With higher quality. Ones ove the years i laughed when my son was telling me his observation. Because its been something ive been well aware of for years i think my router tool box has a 180 dollar router in it with around 300 dollars of bits and accessories as they add up quick. Just like specialty drill bits will i actually do have. A Vix bit. I paid over 50 dollars for because i didnt have time to order it for a job i was doing and i purchased it. At a independent hardware store that had it in stock and for the convenience factor i. Didn’t mind overpaying for it
Hi there! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. Very much appreciated! Would it be too much to ask for the specifics (measurements) on each part? So that it may be written down for generations to come. Generations that may or may not be using computer-generated drawing boards to make their non computer-generated real-lives fun (and in addition make my first true woodworking project a bit more realistic ;) Thanks anyhow for a good contribution to tree huggers around the world! Peace from Norway
He likes rock and roll and woodworking without hearing protection. He won't be hearing music much longer. Good video, though. This guy is good on camera and since Norm retired, woodworkers have been looking for a replacement. I look forward to seeing more.
Hey john thanks for the vid. Im debating on jumping into a project like this. My question, for the legs, would it not be more prudent to use multi laminate for legs for stability and strength?
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but on testing your blade height for your rabbit joint at 11:30 in the video, a piece of scrap might have been a good idea just in case your cut was too deep you wouldn't ruin your build stock.
John, did you use the veneered plywood to help prevent the effects of humidity on the table? I will be helping my nephew rebuild the "family" pool table and was planning on using some white oak that I have but a friend suggested that would not be as stable as the plywood like you used. I was planning on using the oak for the outside surfaces. I would appreciate your thoughts.
Hey Sir, thank you for the video. I really wanna get a pool table and i thought why don't I make one. However, there's a lot of machines to buy to be able to make one. So I wanna ask you if you don't mind, would you actually sell one?
I read in some forums that Woody Hyezmar is going to complete and sell his book (finally!), google him and you should be able to download his draft as of today!!
I bought a used table as well. I want to make it into a dining table/pool table. Is it possible to use 2*4s to minimize the size of the frame? Will it hold the heavy slate fine?
hey john! thanks for the great video. i will definitely be using some of your tips when i build my pool table. i was just curious why you said it was “the ultimate man project”? as a woman, i think this could be my ultimate project, too. i look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you! I guess I was being inadvertently a sexist pig. Apologies, that being said, if it was the ultimate man project it would definitely be the penultimate woman project! Good luck and I hope you share the build with us! It would definitely be an ultimate project for any one. I know it was surely worthwhile for me.
Hello, I been wanting to build a pool table for a while now, and I saw your video's a couple years ago, finialy got to doing it tho xD, one thing o couldn't figure out and can't find dimensions anywhere are the dimensions of the holes, could you help me a bit?
That is something I had to figure out. I spent a lot of time in retail stores measuring all sorts of tables. It all depends on the slate that you are working with.
64 to 65th of an inch ... holy crap wtf - I'm sittinghere as an european just in absolute awe of the mathematic skill that is understood and used on a daily by 300 milion people lmfao
@@jdwilling watched the whole series - what an amazing job you did honestly - the result is nothing but stunning - thinking of buying a cheap one but veneering the sides in walnut - i've barely ever worked with wood before but watching you man really inspired me to at least try it. - do you have any tips for a complete amateur ?
There is a much bigger satisfaction out of making something yourself than to actually go out and buy something. He also said at the the very beggining he made it custom to fit his room.
I'm not criticizing anything (I just want to know if I'm right), is the background a looping video/gif at the 3:30 mark? The water reflection seems to loop.
If you trying to find plans to build an MDF bed pool table according to specifications don't try more! Here they are ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Y9c9NzncKj8.html
Its not red for that reason Lmao .That just the color of the company's insert. Prob. a older Delta They come blue green yellow What ever lol I love when a man has no clue about tools But pretends he does so he can pretend he is not a paper pushing nerd lol
I need to destroy a pool table that has been in the way for the last 30 years. You can't budge it but by inches at a time and I have no idea how they got it in this house trailer. The thing weights a ton. I'm guessing I have to bust up the slate surface with a sledge hammer first? I couldn't give this thing away if I tried...
