Have you had any issues with the plastic hanger strap vs using springs and metal hanger like chud327 does in his build? I am planning my build out now and feel for my use (small 1.5 acre pond and a trolling motor or two I feel that spring tension is overkill for me).

Actually I did watch that video you mentioned before building mine. I also felt that's overkilled. at least plastic hanger strap work perfectly fine for my boat after 7 months it's been in water, and thru extreme weathers where the hottest went up to 105 degree F and the coldest to 10F (yeah the winter storm thing). it still looks pretty much the same as from the store. advantage of plastic hanger includes that it ignores water corrosion and it wont cause damage to the barrels it ties to. But it also depends on the wave condition and the speed you want your boat sails. My boat is sailed only in a calm manmade lake I lived right next to with wave no more than 4 inches high, And the max speed my boat can go with the current motor I have is only around 3mph. so my recommendation is, if you want your boat to go faster than 10mph on a natural lake or ocean where wave can exceed 6 inches and frequent bumpy ride is likely to happen, it's better to use springs and metal hanger. otherwise plastic pvc strap should be more than enough. Also, I'm planning to post some updates about its condition on the coming September, for like a annual inspection or something

@@e-build660 awesome thank you for the reply. Mine will never get more than a gentle push from a 55lb thrust trolling motor. I'm going plastic route myself!!

Could I make the same size boat but with 4 barrles
@e-build660
@e-build660 3 года назад
hi, dimensions of the boat is in the description. and yes you can do 4 barrel, but then you might need to consider a couple things: 1. it will support less people, I will say no more than 4 people for safety measures. 2. missing support in the middle might cause the structure in the middle to bend down pretty quick 3. I don't think hollow space between barrels looks that great

How much does it weigh all finished
@e-build660
@e-build660 3 года назад
Not quite sure about that, but you can kinda tell by its draft (as shown in thumbnail) , I will say it weights about 440-660pound/200-300kg. and the heaviest load this boat's ever taken is 9 people (each person with an average weight of 120pound/ 55 kg.) I had that weight limit test recorded and will show it in future videos.

Hey EntropyDevourer! Love your work! Was thinking of doing this myself and happened to notice we actually live in the same subdivision in Katy! Was wondering if you could give me more details like exact measurements etc because I don’t have a cutter and I would have to get all my wood precut at Home Depot. My little ones have been dying to get out on the lake but haven’t been able to find a boat! Thanks!

Hey, not sure if you have read it, but I put all details of this project in the video description section. I strongly recommend you to buy a cutter saw (saws only cost about $50 - $400 depends on its type and brand, it's a very necessary investment and it will be a good tool for many other projects), I don't think precuts will work. That's way too ideal to be practical. There were a lot of tweaks going on in the making of this boat, as the woods you get usually WILL NOT BE PERFECTLY STRAIGHT.

@@e-build660 Wow! I can’t believe I didn’t even think to check the description of the video! Thank you so much! This is super helpful! Also thank you for being super responsive!!! Not all people are willing to help! :) Are there any budget friendly saws that you would recommend? :) I just picked up 6 barrels yesterday so am ready to get started on this project!
@e-build660
@e-build660 3 года назад
@@jonathanfrancisco212 I got my saws from my friend and I couldn't give much recommendation for the brand of saws. My only suggestion is getting either a circular saw( pros: cheat and versatile, usually cost $30 - 100; cons: requires quite some skills and steady hands to make good cuts) or a miter saw (pro: easy straight cuts, con: usually cost more, $100-300), depending on your budget.

@@e-build660 Thanks man! I did have one more question though. I see your dimensions are 10’ 3 x 7’ 8. Is this after measuring after everything is completed? Like with the decking and support? I see them overlapping the base but am trying to determine your base measurements. Is it just 10x7 for the base? :)
@e-build660
@e-build660 3 года назад
only the base frame is 10’ 3 x 7’ 8 (without posts and outer layer), it was 10' 3 long because the thickness of the wood is counted, not because the length of the wood to make the frame is 10'3 long (which are only 10' long). you will see what I mean if you watch how I made the frame closely.
