Hey Matt, one year ago I was unemployed and thanks to you, I now have a new career. I started building some of your dog kennels and farm house tables and some other things which eventually led to me doing handyman work. I started my own business that has taken off pretty well. Prior to watching your videos, I couldn't even read a tape measure! Anyways, just want to say thanks and glad to see you and yours really taking off! God bless you brother

Matt thanks so much for that video, you touched all the important stuff your dialog was very clear easy to follow and your work very impressive. I made a chunky farmhouse coffee table to. I made mine all out of nutty alder since where I live nutty alder is about 2.00 a board feet. I stained my table top dark walnut. I used fasteners to attach the table top too & I used dowls 1" dowls to nake the bread board ends. As soon as budget allows I'm getting a domino jointer much easier to assemble than dowls. Thanks again Matt.

I'm not saying your table will split but, go watch New Yankee Workshop episode Bedside Table. He glues the breadboard on to his top, now a few decades ago, I built a couple tables like that and followed Norm's instructions. I about a month both tables split right down the middle...lesson learned.

For what its worth, I live in San Francisco. 11 yrs. ago, I made a breadboard end for a cafe table. I simply glued the side grain to end grain, not understanding wood movement. To this day, that table is still being used by that cafe. I looked at it closely 2 yrs. ago, and there was barely visible signs of movement. No serious cracks except at the corner of the table, a small change in height, only detectable by feel. My end was about 2" wide and (7/8) thick.

Hi Matt, just looking at the way you had to hold the table top while shutting off the saw got me thinking that maybe you could design and make a kick type paddle to hit with either your knee or foot, this way you don't have to release your hands from holding your work while shutting off the saw. I can send you a picture of the one I had designed which works great for me if you want.

Very little wood movement occurs if you seal the ends of all wood pieces, as wood only expands if water gets within the vascular tissue.

If I’m not mistaken this is the second video of the walnut top? If I’m right then I was a movement police because in the first video I didn’t see that you used setting 1 and 2 on the dominos which will give you movement room. Guess next time I’ll wait until finish video before I comment 😂. I will restate again that I have enjoyed watching and seeing your woodworking learning process, I always tell people whom I’m teaching woodwork to go and watch you and see how quick and easy it is if you apply yourself. After 40 years of woodworking I learn from everyone even beginners. Keep learning and keep cutting!!

I think it looks awesome with the grain . My question is do you think it will stay together and look good for a long time . It was kiln dried white pine . I know you talk about wood movement . So I just wanted your opinion. Hope I'm not wasting my time using the pine .

Honestly, I wouldn’t be too worried about the dominos as you mentioned many guys have done what you did without issue. I would mention though that these breadboards are pretty wide and prone to cupping when used like this. That’s why b.b’s are normally 3-4” wide. if you make them wide like this it’s wise to inlay c channel in the bottom with elongated slots to help prevent them from cupping. Hopefully you want have an issue on this one though. Also, I was curious about why you said the boards were too long for the jointer, that’s not typically an issue, unless you’ve had specific issues with your table top jointer?
