Thanks for the tips. Will find an old heater fan from a car and use it to suck the air out. I also watched the guy from Armoury Enterprises, and built mine from an old dishwasher. So far I'm £150 ish into it, and already started test blasting. Needs some better water control to stop my legs and feet from getting wet, but definitely heading in the right direction.

Also, is it possible to use Aluminium Oxide to strip a part of corrosion and paint, then smooth it with glass beads, or are the glass beads too gentle to make a dent in the surface?

Steve, Thank's for your reply, comments. I'm going to build one shortly, there were a few thing's I was a bit in the dark about but you have answered those questions, still got to get my head around the electrics, I like what you have done with those and will probably do a similar setup although I'll be learning on the job as I'm no electrician. I'm renovating an old XL 500S at the moment the vapour blaster will certainly come in handy for that, caught your video just in time as I'll be pulling the engine apart very shortly, got the 600 version to do once that's done. All the best.

Hey Steve nice video mate, just a suggestion.... you could make a simple stand off the ground for when you change the tank, just wheel the tank up to your stand and lower it down, eliminating the lifting of the tanks.. nice work..

Hi Phil Sounds good ! After I finish the CX500 project I do want to revisit the Wet Blast cabinet The tank I have on now is way to big really after using the cabinet for a while now, you don't need a big tank I just selected that one because it was readily available So I will modify it to a smaller round tank. I do like the wheel in and lift up it seals off pretty good

If you powder coat your parts, you don’t necessarily need a coarse finish. Powder will adhere to the material extremely well no matter polished or not, a long the surface is 100% clean. There is a powder from Clear Vision named Ultra Clear Vision and is transparent. If used, you newer will need to sandblast your aluminium parts again.

Hi Steve, I really like this and thinking about making own. I have few questions for you; how often do you use this? Is the exhaust fan needed? What are the benefits of having it? Where did you get your pump and gun? And do you like them any suggestions on choosing those items? If this turns out well for me I will be using this a lot so would really like components to last awhile. Do not mind spending a bit but would also like to save money if possible. Any suggestions you have would be very helpful thanks.

Steve, Brilliant video and build, does the pump sit directly in the box, what modifications were made to the base of the blast cabinet? I note you would prefer a round tub as opposed to an oblong one, what are the reasons for this? Would you prefer a spray bar or are you happy with the wiper's? I've been planning to build one of these for a while now an noticed on one design that they had fitted a marine extractor fan which made a huge difference for visibility. Best of luck for the future Justin
@Coolhand99au
@Coolhand99au 4 года назад
Hi Justin The only modification to a brand new blast cabinet is ; to seal it, to cut the bottom to suit the tank and fit better light, wiper The pump sits directly onto the tank base I have raised mine 50mm with some spacers on the bottom of the pump you can see that in the video Yes I am going to go with a circular tank because the pump flow will agitate the media better. In a square tank the media can get caught up in the corners. Also don't go for a big tank mine is too big get one around 30 Lt Yeah I'm happy with the light and the wiper and the ventilator. If you use a spray you will have to add water then it is going to overflow your tank

Hi Pierre On mine I have the compressor regulator set at 8 Bar and the regulator at the we blast cabinet set at 4 Bar for Glass Bead and 6 Bar for Aluminium Oxide you don't want the air pressure set too high on glass bead as you will only smash the beads apart Experiment with your air pressure and nozzle sizes to get the best result I think I use around a 6mm nozzle

Once you raise the tank, how far does the bottom of the cabinet sit into the tank? Is it deep enough where it digs into the media to help seal the base? Does the bottom of your pump (the piece you made) just sit on top of the media? Very great job.
@Coolhand99au
@Coolhand99au 5 лет назад
Hi Chicago The cabinet would go into the plastic tank by around 75 mm or 3 inches. Really its only there to guide the slurry back into the tank. Doesn't need to be a tight seal My Tank is to big really. When I get time I am going to make a smaller round tank The pump would sit on the bottom of the tank. Once the pump starts and the slurry is flowing around the tank the pump would sink and sit on the bottom. I raised my pump inlet by 50 mm so that when the pump stops and the media settles the inlet of the pump wont get clogged with media

Hi, I have momentary foot pedals like yours and wish to make them latching. I don't know how to work/play with/code Arduino circuitry but have purchased 12v timers and other little pre assembled (attach power and go) assemblies from off Aliexpress in the past. I was wondering if what you made to make your pedal(s) latching could be bought off the shelf from off Aliexpress? If so - what would I be looking for? Thanks for any pointers. Safe travels on ya bike!

Gday mate So you want to make a relay that powers lets say the pump with one press of the momentary foot switch and off with a second press I would look at a latching relay see RU-vid link below. I mostly powder coat parts and the roughness from oxide or sand doesn't matter. But I like the finish it leaves on raw aluminum for carburetors and engine cases. What I'm wondering is, does it remove paint just as easily as a dry media?? I notice your blasters red paint is still very intact, my paint is blasted off significantly. I use it but not a ton, it's just from 15 years of blasting on and off... Any replies are appreciated

To be totally honest mate I have never really used dry blasting My wet blaster does take off paint and oxide It doesn't like selastic, rubber , etc I guess it also comes down to speed how quick it can clean up a part and that depends on a few things air supply, nozzle design

Rather than having water flowing into the cabinet permanently under pressure, Could you just use the suction of the gun to draw water up only as needed? using the pump for circulation in the tank only. Or will it not be as effective?

To keep your viewing window clear just rig a pipe with air flowing across it. That is how they do it on the $15k machines This is fitted to a Torrent 500 The integrated air knife on the interior side of the viewing glass blows compressed air across the window while the pump is activated, allowing for better visibility by the operator as it blows away any water or grime that slashes back on the glass.
