I have been building cabinets and furniture for the last 50 years. I could provably make plans myself from watching this video, but why should I? Your plans are inexpensive, detailed, and work well. I bought them last year and not only made the chair and sofa, I also had the pleasure and satisfaction of supporting someone's original work. Thank you! Please keep it up.
Wow, your outdoor furniture collection is already stunning, and adding a chaise sectional is such a fantastic idea! It's wonderful to see you listening to your audience and delivering exactly what they've been asking for. Can't wait to see the next video and the other version of the matching sectional!
Thank you! I’m glad so many people talked me into adding the sectional. It was a fun build and I’m really happy with how it turned out. I appreciate you watching and hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Your outdoor furniture was impressive but what impresses me most is how you can carry it alone without help because it is clear that the furniture is super heavy. Thank you for sharing and God bless you.
Shara, I walked out onto my porch today and thought, "This is going to be a beautiful day!". And I was right and I can't think of anything that would compliment this day that buying your plans and starting the build of this beautiful outdoor sectional which I think will fit perfectly on my deck. Lucy look right at home on the new piece so it must be perfect. Wishing you a great weekend. Hugs and kisses to all the critters. Thanks for Sharing!
You're so kind! So glad to hear you have a great place for this project--Lucy definitely approves, so I hope you enjoy it as much as she does 😉 Thank you so much for cheering me on, supporting my small business, and following along. Lucy and Bubs say hi and we hope you have an amazing weekend. Happy buidling!

Haha gotta do what you gotta do sometimes. If this was treated lumber, it would be heavy. Cedar isn't too bad--this wasn't as heavy as it looks. I appreciate you watching and hope you have a great rest of your weekend!
Thank you for the great video, very detailed and easy to follow. I have downloaded the plans, and they are just as well written and detailed. I’m starting my build now. Living in South Africa, I’ve decided to go with Maranti as it’s very durable, reasonably inexpensive and has a great finish with a decent stain. I’ve also had to convert the plans to metric, I’ll share these with you in a pm if you’re keen.
This is a beautiful set of outdoor furniture! I like the design and colors you used. I noticed Lou drifted through being the inspector and, of course, Bubs was being the supervisor! Lol…. Thanks Shara for another great build and inspiration! Have a great weekend!!!! Please, keep on building!
Thank you so much! It was a very stormy week when I built this and Lucy hates storms. So she stuck close by my side for this one 😅 normally she’s laying in the shop doorway soaking in the sun 😆 she was definitely prepared to test it out once it was built though. That’s what she does best! Thank you so much for watching and following along and I hope you have a great weekend as well. Happy building!
Yay, another OUTdoor OUTsized (chonky) addition to the furniture suite! OUTstanding! (see what I did there?) I love this fresh take on your proven design from last year, if for no other reason than to hear you use the word "chaise" (we fancy 'round here...) I have fond memories of a chaise lounge that was in my family's backyard. The methods and materials on this project make it a very accessible build for just about anyone. Well done, and looking forward to the "sectional sectional" (totally legit term) installment. And for any of your followers who don't know, one of the surest signs of a totally ridiculous cat mom occurs at 9:07 when we see that Shara has placed a cushion on the unfinished project so Bubs can curl up. 😉
Haha I see what you did there 😉😆 we are definitely not fancy around here. I’ve always said “chase” and then I heard someone pronounce it “shayzzz” recently and I was like 😳 my whole life I had no idea that’s how you say it 🙈🤣 I sat that spare cushion up to make sure it did in fact fit on the frame and immediately Bubs claimed his spot on it. He makes me laugh. I know he thinks I built this entire project just for him 😸 Thank you so much for watching and I hope you have an amazing weekend. See you soon with the “sectional sectional” video 😁
WOW! Absolutely stunning. Thank you for sharing. I will definitely roll up my sleeves. Too bad they took out wood shop in school. We have you🎉. Continue to Stay Blessed ❤️
Shara, what can I say about this... I am always amazed by your projects. Nicely done. You're making it look so easy, but it isn't. Every now and then I get jealous when I see you doing this. I'm already looking forward to your next work of art and I would say "happy building"!
Stunning furniture, Shara! Truly amazing work! 😃 During the video Buby was really enjoying himself in the pillows... 😂 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thank you so much! Bubs always likes to be comfortable when he's inspecting the projects 😂 I hope you have a great rest of your weekend and thank you so much for watching!
This is so awesome. I have been looking hard at your outdoor couch and I was just thinking that I really wanted a sectional instead. Im gonna wait until I see the other sectional to decide which plans I want to buy. Honestly, I think your design is the best I’ve come across. Is very minimal and simple. I love it and can’t wait to build it.
So glad you enjoyed it! I can't wait to share the next version--it looks really nice, but the corner piece for it was a challenge to figure out haha. So glad you like the simple design of the set. Thanks so much for watching and I hope you have an amazing rest of your weekend!
Another wonderful project! I have the plans to the original pieces and intend to get to them one of these days. You have a great weekend and I need to get to work!
Thank you so much! The original sofa is probably my favorite of all the pieces but this one comes close haha. I hope you have a wonderful weekend and happy building! 🙌🔨
Thank you so much! Lucy and Bubs are great company in the workshop. I'm happy they hang out with me so much. I hope you have a wonderful rest of your weekend and I appreciate you watching!
As always you have amazing builds. You seem to love what you do and it shows in the quality of your work. I am going to attempt some builds myself soon wish me luck.
You can definitely buy a long cushion instead, but after doing a ton of research, I couldn’t find larger cushions this wide or this thick without paying at least three times what two single cushions cost.
I love these outdoor units, Shara. I am curious. Do you do a lot of outdoor entertaining, for example, for a crowd from work or church? Thanks for the video. I always look forward to the weekend and watching your videos.
Thank you so much! I actually don’t 🙈 we don’t have a great place to hang out outside besides the yard. The yard is great for lots of things but for seating, I’d prefer a porch or patio. We don’t want to mow around furniture in the yard all the time. One day, we’d like to set up a patio for entertaining. We will see haha. Thank you so much for watching! So happy you keep following along all the craziness 😅 have a wonderful weekend!
That looks great. A little classier than some of the other similar designs I have seen. Is Honey Teak the color you used? That timber oil seems to be the best choice for outdoor furniture that is available here in TN. But I have to buy a full gallon and am unsure what color I want for cedar and pine. Thanks, and keep up the good work. I generally like the style of all your projects.
Thank you so much! I was shocked I found the cedar 2x4s on sale for $8 each. I should have loaded up as many as my truck could fit! Those 4x4s are pricey.
Have been enjoying your videos very much. I was super excited when you mentioned the cushions being linked in the description on this video, but I can't find the link anywhere. For some reason, I'm having a difficult time finding similar cushions to use for a lounge chair, and was hoping your source would help.
Hi! Thanks so much for watching! The cushions are linked in the materials list in the video description. I’ve copied and pasted the link again here: amzn.to/3MWRoI8 Happy building!
I’ll keep that in mind for a future project. In the mean time, I have this: How to Build a Puzzle Table with Built In Board Games ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dgAmoKwSZqA.html
It did! I LOVE cedar--it's my favorite lumber. There are definitely things I can't make--but very few things I won't at least attempt 🙈😂 sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't haha. Thank you so much for watching and I hope you have a great weekend!
When I saw the picture I immediately asked myself how the thing with pocket holes was supposed to work. But Shara wouldn't be Shara Queen of pocket holes if she didn't have a jig for that too 😉😘
I suppose you can use them inside if you wanted. Me and the dog sit on the loveseat version of this design (I built last year) on the porch literally every single day. We find it comfortable.
I've been desperately looking for the right full over full bunkbed with headboards and drawers. Do you sell plans? that queen bed you built was stunning 😍
Hi! I don't have any bunkbed plans, but I do sell plans for the storage bed--is that the one you're talking about? You can find all my available plans here: woodshop-diaries.myshopify.com/
You do such a great job of building and woodworking. I like the outdoor sectional you built. I also like the hanging chair you built a couple of years ago. I have a question though. I've been wanting to build my own slant board and a plyometric box. But I've noticed some RU-vid channels advise drilling the holes before actually screwing the screws in. I've never used a drill (and yet I watch your videos consistently..lol) but I do want to actually make or build a number of things that you've built. Is there a specific drill that you recommend? Also when you first started were you not nervous that you'd mess up or make a lot of mistakes? I think I'm experiencing some slight anxiety.
You're so kind. Thank you for watching and following along! I know getting started can seem scary and intimidating. Mistakes are part of the process, and are (in my opinion) the best way to learn. I've been making them for 9 years now and I'll keep making them, I'm sure haha. So don't be anxious about that. Just accept that mistakes will happen--they happen to everyone. And when they do, just get creative to find solutions to fix them. Perfectionism prevents progress. As far as predrilling a pilot hole before driving screws, that's usually a good idea. I did that with this project because this wood tends to split easily when the screw goes through if there's not a pilot hole. I use the Ryobi HP cordless drill and driver set (it's linked in the tools and materials list of this video description). I bought it with my own money (not sponsored by Ryobi) and it works great--lightweight, budget friendly, performs well.
Heck with outdoor, I'd build this set for my living room lol. Awesome build as always Shara keep rocking it. Also do you ever have issues with the wood glue lasting with cedar? It always seems to fail prematurely when I use it on cedar.
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed the build 🙌 I haven’t had any issues as of yet with wood glue/cedar. I built my bathroom vanity from cedar over two years ago (used Gorilla wood glue) and it’s still in perfect shape. I’ve used it on some smaller outdoor decorative projects as well over the years and they never came apart in their own (tornado took a couple out 😅). Worst case, if it does, I can add a few screws to hold in addition, but I don’t expect it to. I wonder if it’s the type of glue being used?
@WoodshopDiaries most the cedar I come across here in Southern Missouri is still quite green and oily I'm thinking that's the problem I'm having. Epoxy works ok on it but I loathe using that stuff.
I downloaded your instructions for patio sofa. I’m thoroughly impressed. Thank you so much for taking the time to document. I’m so excited to finally be able to afford a patio sofa unit. Can’t wait. Great job!! ❤❤
I understand--angles can be tricky. But the angles parts of this set are what makes it unique, I think. Luckily these are simple angles--nothing too crazy.
I've been thinking about building a sofa and couple of chairs for my balcony. This might be a bit big for the spot, but I know I can trust your plans. Thank you for sharing your talent, Shara! Your designs and explanation are always so easy to follow! Always a great job at filming too.
These are a bit on the chunky side 😅 but super comfortable. Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words. I appreciate that! Have a wonderful weekend and happy building!
Looks amazing!!! Because this is rough sawn lumber, are they true 2x4 and 4x4 dimensions? Or are they the same size as dimensional lumber 2x4s and 4x4s?
Another great addition to your outdoor furniture collection! You do such a great job narrating and giving different options on how to build your projects. Looked like you had a lot of help this time from Lucy and Bubby. Bubby was even trying out the cushions to make sure they were soft enough for him!
Thank you so much! These fit right into the collection and I can't wait to share the next version! Lucy and Bubs were definitely in on this one--it was storming the week I built it and Lucy hates storms. She wouldn't leave my side--normally she'd sunning in the doorway haha. I'm thankful for their company in the shop!
Very enjoyable content, glad I happened across your channel. Great looking build, definitely want to undertake this one. Very cool pup, I have a black Labrabull.
