Just stumbled across this video and agree. This is the first “simple” wardrobe build I’ve seen that doesn’t start with £2000 worth of panel saw , dado stack and Festool proprietary tools , in a workshop the size of an aircraft hanger .

Great work, I'm thinking of doing this on both sides of a chimney breast in an old Victorian property but the right hand wall is external and not insulated. I don't know if boarding the gap will cause any kind of condensation to form, do you have any advice as I'm sure you've dealt with this situation before? Good simple design though and something well within my skill level...keep it up!
@LTWCarpentry
@LTWCarpentry Год назад
You have a few options you could insulate the wall be fire fixing your units on but I would put the insulation tight on the wall as this will trap and moisture in, the key with mould and damp issues is ventilation so you can let it dry and air out, I would pack the units off the wall, put a vent in the plinth and stop the units short of the ceiling, this will allow are flow around the units.

Are you drilling into solid walls or stud walls? If the latter presumably you'd already located the stud before you began drilling?
@LTWCarpentry
@LTWCarpentry Год назад
The back wall was solid and the side wall was a stud wall, which I found the studs prior to fixing in to it

Thanks. How do you choose your wood? What type of wood did you buy? Do you know if B&Q cut woods to sizes?

Hi, this is made from 18mm mdf, and yes most bugger b&q stores will cut to size

hi quick question you did not use a plinth base support for the wardrobe? i am thinking of making a 4 door wardrobe was wondering do i need base carcass or just add strips of wood on bottom like you did to keep it together thanks

Nice result and interesting video. Do you ever have problems with warping of plain doors that length?
@LTWCarpentry
@LTWCarpentry 7 месяцев назад
Hi Steve, thanks for you comment, no mate I don’t to be honest, if you paint in both sides of the door and have enough hinges you shouldn’t have a problem

Hi loving the video, what thickness mdf are you using, I’m planning on building some floating units and can’t decide weather 18mm or 23mm thick which would be best?
@LTWCarpentry
@LTWCarpentry 8 месяцев назад
Hi buddy, these are 18mm carcasses and doors, is there a reason your thinking of going for 25mm ? I normally would only do that for strength or if you want a chunkier look
@Dawsons-adventures
@Dawsons-adventures 8 месяцев назад
@@LTWCarpentry I was thinking for door thickness but 18mm would probably be easier to do and cheaper for materials. Thank you

Yes it would indeed Sarah, you just need to do both sides the same as the wall side in the video

Yes I was fortunate that the walls were level on this job otherwise I would have scribed some fillers in, the beauty with this type of wardrobe is that if the floors is out of level it dosent matter as you build up level as you go 👍🏻
