In this lesson, I show how to use a major scale to build major and minor chords all over the fingerboard. From there, I offer a fun way to practice getting to know the fingerboard by exploring a small area at a time, gradually building up. It's important to explore and tinker with different variations and arrangements of roots, thirds, and fifths. I hope you enjoy!

I learned more from watching three of your videos than I have in my eight months of playing guitar and failing go get into theory. To be fair, I wasn’t very motivated before, but you also just make it so, so easy to understand. There’s something very nice about learning theory that you can immediately apply and try for yourself. This is exactly what I was working on since yesterday, I found the print outs which was printed out long time ago and forgotten all about it since I wasn’t interested in learning in depth 😄 Whatever little I learnt made me learn all the more, so this lesson is supporting it, so thanks a heaps! I've watched a LOT of guitar instruction videos and I can say that Scott's are easily the best I've ever come across. He's knowledgeable, the pacing of the lessons is spot-on and the three-pane setup with the one camera fixed to the fretboard is excellent. The set-up, the subjects he tackles, the production values and his delivery are all great. On top of that he's really personable; he makes me want to be his friend and invite him over for jam night. Keep at it, Scott; you're really onto a winning formula here. Yours is the first channel I've ever been compelled to subscribe to or comment on.

Glad you are back. You are by far my favorite guitar teacher on YT. You teach like a teacher and not a guitar player showing you what they know. I want you to know- for hours on end i have been watching theory videos trying to grasp how theory works on the guitar (most are for piano). I never could figure out how to make chords or understand the makeup of the ones ive been using. Thank you so much for this video- it has actually helped saved me.
