We are re-posting this episode because its such a great one and it never got the love it deserves. Gilles did an awesome job and after so many people have seen his 1968 Mustang restore it would be great if people can watch his foxbody!

Great video!! I had a 1980 Cobra at 17, a 1984 GT at 18, now at 52 I’ve been restoring a 91 GT on my channel. I’m trying to involve my 3 sons as much as I can.

I remember shopping for an new 82 vehicle... looked at a red Supra $17k, red Mustang GT and a white Capri RS 5.0. Didn't like the nose on the Mustang and love the Capri wide body look. Saw it in the Mercury dealers showroom and paid 10k. Been driving the Capri for 42 years!

@@Nine_Finger_Wrenching I wanted one with the flairs, but $7k over my budget at the time. The Capri did good for me after all... 371k miles on the same 302 engine! Borrowed $7k with $3k down.

I gotta say how much I REALLY Like our Humble Host here!! I don't know his name but he seems like the brothers I grew up with in my small Canadian city! He's so kind and complimentary to the car owner and builder as he asks questions and agrees that the cars a smokin build. The owner is a little dry and I wish he were a bit ,more humble in his answers but he is nice and accommodating too! I remember when the Grunge scene first was starting and those jackets became all the rage! To the point that they were being sold as designer jackets by the big fashion houses around the world for HUGE money in some cases. Yet in Western and pretty much any Northern Provinces throughout Canada and the Western USA these Jackets were the go to cheap work coat that you had two or three hanging in your entryway for when you were going out to work on your truck/car or other equipment and you could grab whichever one wasn't soaking wet from the hunting trip that weekend or didn't have the bigger rips that could get caught on the Auger. LOL.

See, this guy and I are on the same wavelength, most fox body guys would take the older car and put the NEWER body panels and fittings onto it, while we're the opposite, we'd prefer to BACK DATE our cars in some areas, but then update them in others. I much prefer the look of the older cars over the newer ones just because the you just see so many of the face-lifted Fox Bodies, and I really feel the older cars looked more aggressive and unique. I'd very much build one of these much like what Gilles did here, only I'd keep the '80 tail lights and wire them up to be sequential, and I'd try to mix the bumpers of the later ones (possibly like the '93 Saleen bumpers and hood) but with the grill and headlights of the '80 Cobra. Anyway, VERY beautiful car, absolutely love it, and love the story behind it too!

I'm currently rebuilding a 83 Mustang for my niece for a High School graduation present next May. I'm not building a performance V8 car like this one, it will have a newer V6 in it but I am going to put a turbo on it, because the V6 from the last 10-15 years have just as much if not more horsepower than V8's do. A 2000 model year 232 Ford Essex without a turbo cranked out 193 HP, a 1983 mustang 302 engine only had 175 HP and I'm adding a Turbo to hers.

I must say that HP numbers aren't always the whole story. So many people seemingly often those that run big V8's or small block cars that are around the 400 hp mark don't seem to realize the importance of torque. It's been stated many times and there's always the old adage that "Hp sells cars Torque wins races" which isn't entirely true either. LOL. (It can get a bit messy LOL). So for Eg: This slightly bored out V8 which I think he said it's a 306CI now is pushing around 385 or something like that HP. Well I have a BMW M3 with a straight 6 race engine that's pushing around 360 Hp very close to the same type of numbers. Yet I would wager that this V8 car would Trounce that Straight 6! Why?? Well even though that BMW is lighter (The older ones were a bit less bulky) the torque numbers are I'm positive are far off from each other. The Bimmer has about 270 FTLBS TQ. This V8 will no doubt be pushing Over 400 FTLBS! That's a HUGE difference. So when you hear differences between HP are small don't forget the TQ numbers to make your bets!! LOL. Thanks guys! Great old Fox Body here!

THats an awesome comment! Thanks for leaving this and breaking it down. Very true torque is much more underrated than it should be.
