Interested in legalizing your electric bike?
Step 1) Apply for a VIN number for self built motorcycle to DVLAVIN@dvla.gov.uk (these was posted to me after 2x days)
Step 2) Stamp the VIN number as instructed in the letter
Step 3) Follow the MSVA guidelines (www.gov.uk/government/publica...)
Step 4) Book MSVA test (took me a couple of weeks to get the test and it passed first time)
Step 5) Apply for first registration and tax (www.gov.uk/government/publica...) - took a couple of weeks from application
Step 6) Buy a number plate and get it insured.

All the frame drilling..cutting..gluing.. Fitting of printed parts and head tube cups should be done before selling.

⁠@@ladiandmargaretwell I’m a mechanic and I would love to build one myself, but I can understand that most people don’t have the tools or the capacity to cut, drill and glue metal panels, specially considering the price. Should consider make the hardest parts of this build pre made on the kit ;)

Thanks for the opinion. People can still buy the finished product. I found gluing, drilling and bolting very basic skills. We made the video public so people see the required skill and filter themselves.

Ladi, Just an idea unless you have already thought of it: Before mounting a bushing into a bore, try warming up the bore with a heat gun/heat lamp (or an oven if you can get an oven large enough) and place the bushing into a freezer for several hours. I do this at work every day with helicopter parts all the time. Makes installation much easier. And using hydraulic presses helps too.

Great video Ladi, love the custom upgrades, like the motorcycle headset bearing and the 3D panel extension to widen it for the battery, I need a set of these! Have you ever put a moto seat on this bike? I changed my bicycle seat to the moto seat a few years ago now and it lowers your center of gravity, but the trade off is no more pedaling because your legs no longer get extension.

If this was build, I would put the controller in a Garmata enduro seat, that way you don't have to make holes in the frame twice, or print a cover for the controller. Plus you get the advantage of a heated seat for winter :)

Ladi, where do ppl buy one of those custom made motorcycle headsets? i bought one of those frames and b/c the headset was one of the first big problems with it, i found a thrust bearing for one of the sides, bottom i believe.. anyway, this would be much safer and reliable option, good work!

Hi Ladi/Margaret, I remember you building one of the 1st E-Bikes that had Magnets holding the Side-Panels on. I must have LOST this channel when up-Grading to a New Laptop. I have been HUNTING for this Channel for MONTHS. I would LOVE if you sold a FULL Ready to Play bike. But seeing as i watched the1st Bikes Maybe a Couple of years ago i DONT Know if you do that. I will have to look at your SITE. I my opinion these are THE BEST i have come across.

We used a small 450W charger before. Only cyberbike frame has enough space for a 3kW charger.

From the uk myself so that would be mega expense id assume to import something like that plus the regs here dont allow over 250 watts to be road legal

UK have different ebike laws. Ebikes in the UK are 250watts at 15mph. This won't be road legal as it goes about 60mph. A1 license may be needed but you still need to get it registered. You can always ride dirty thats what people do here as our limit is 750watts to be street legal.

These bikes are not good for lock in full speed from charge to full discharge. They are less efficient because of the big wind resistance.

@@ladiandmargaret first off, that’s 2010ish Honda accord money. That’s older Ducati money. Thats 500hp LS motor money. That’s cross cart money. I can have a lot more fun with that cash. But That’s the going price of a decent ebike anyway. I’m not gona build something for the price of turn key.

@@geridrh If you have to license it to be on the street it's an electric motorcycle. If you start including illegal devices as "e-bikes" legislators will include legal e-bikes in their legislation to control what is already illegal because jerks try and pretend these are legal when they get caught breaking the law when they know damn well they are lying. It's like the word scooter, which is used for everything from a kids foot powered glorified skateboard to a highway capable vespa. So no it doesn't qualify legally as an e-bike because it has more than 1000 watts which is illegal for an e-bike in every state. It has no operable pedals either but it could be configured as a moped, maybe.

Dude you haven't a clue what you're talking about so I'd suggest you stop and do some research and then come back when you look up the prices of electric motorbikes. These have at minimum twice the power of a surron. However what I do agree on is that a kit shouldn't require modification on arrival. That needs to change. Ladi needs to do the modifications before sending the product or change the product. Assembly is absolutely fine but asking people to make modifications limits your customer base massively as most people might be able to use tools but they probably don't have the skills or equipment for modifying.
