Thankfully the build is actually quite easy and it wont take you 10 thousand years to frantically put together, each component slots together in a very simple fashion providing you follow the fantastic instructions that comes with it.
It's a massive model and we're so excited to see it played on the tabletop, we just have to get it painted now... OH JOOOHN!

Great vid, Mortarion looking glorious. I haven't liked the way he's painted in official sources so its nice to see him without paint honestly. That said, looking forward to the painting video :)

What I don't get is how those little nurglings that dress up like him and carry little weapons can keep up with him when he's FLYING

Having built it do you think this model lends itself well to a production line style of building/painting. If it does what "sections" would you do? Legs/Torso, Arms, Weapons, Wings?
@OnTableTop
@OnTableTop 7 лет назад
It would be clear to build it in three parts total, the legs, torso and wings / small details.

joogens? This model is a prime (haha) example of assembly steps should probably be broken down to painting steps as there's a ton of bits that you put on that make it almost impossible to paint what's under/behind them and it'd be much easier to paint them in stages and then assemble it.

Having to give Mortarion a reach around to get him assembled, eh?

The smoke coming out of his back should stay off until it's all painted, otherwise it gets in the way.

Methyline chloride on its own is the base for all plastic cement, im a master modeller and use nowt else as you can make your own cement or use it neat the way I like it, its cheap £2.40 for 2.5 ltr and lasts a long time, tamiya ultra thin is methyline chloride nowt else....t is without doubt the best for plastic.

I find Clag to be the superior glue choice, anything else is just for amateurs.

For anyone who uses Testors plastic glue or anything other than the one John's using... Stop. I bought the one John is using, on eBay, and I have to say that it's a fucking godsend.

Tamiya Thin Cement is excellent as well, having used it to build this model in fact.

Is it wise to build the full model before painting certain areas? what are your thoughts on this if you dont mind me asking?
@Zillawill
@Zillawill 7 лет назад
From what I've heard it isn't too bad being whole, but I'd still do it in sub sections myself
@CoffeeHobby
@CoffeeHobby 7 лет назад
Hey Paul. This is something I should have talked about in the video, but i'll answer it here :) Yes, building in sub assemblies to paint would work best. And I'm sure that it wouldn;t be too hard to figure out how much each sub assembly needs before you can go ahead and paint them. I would say that every two steps I do in the video would break the model nicely into three or possibly four good sub assembles to start painting .
@DaConker
@DaConker 7 лет назад
I haven't started painting mine yet but I left it in a few seperate pieces: the base with the rocks and nurglings, the body with the robes, the wings, the head, the weapon arms, the bit of cloth on Morty's butt with the censer and the plague fly and finally the smoke for the back.

@metalwolf1000

Looks like to paint it will need to be done in subassemblies. Does the model lend itself to that option?
@CoffeeHobby
@CoffeeHobby 7 лет назад
Very much so! As I said to another commenter, I would have broken him down into three sub assemblies :)

Ok I paint and assemble my stuff ... but seems for this particular model I will pay someone who paints for living. Why ? ~~100€ for model alone , now sure painting may cost even more. But fact alone that you can screw up this one is high in either assembling and/or painting. And I'm not really into buying few boxes of Morty. It pains me a lot that I would do this - not because of money for painting. But because I won't do it myself ehh. But I'm not good enough to make him look as good as I want him to be. So that is lesser evil.
@SethDr2
@SethDr2 7 лет назад
Why do you think you can "screw this up"? Even if you are not confident in your painting skills I'm sure there will be lots of tutorials out there soon. As long as you keep to a few principles you cant ruin the model just by trying to paint it. If you are not sure how a certain color looks, grab some Dark Imperium Death Guard models from ebay and test your paint scheme on them. Trying to finish a bigger model is a good way to improve the painting skills.
@Mario-kf3ej
@Mario-kf3ej 7 лет назад
Maybe you are right. I may not be artists, but I'm not complete failure either I suppose. Ok you convinced me there! I will just be patient and before Morty I will paint entire DI box and some other stuff in DG colors. I may not win reward in painting contest - but maybe it's gonna look half decent :D.

I haven't painted a mini in like 20 years, just started 40k with my son, I'll be starting with pox walkers, then onto death guard, etc. Build up your skills, finalize your pallet, and then do my big and bad!
