I have been failing bunny hops for 2 weeks even with face-to-face coach from a friend who rides a dirt jumper. I could never get the back wheels off the ground even the slightest. Until I found you and your scooping technique, Aaron! Please keep the posting! I'd love to see your freestyle riding too!

I was happy to hear that you are not telling the folks to get behind the back wheel axle as so many tutorials do. You are not mentioning the manual, which is good for the same reason. If you get behind the rear axle you won't have time to get the back wheel over the obstacle. I like the plane analogy! :)

Dudeeee 10:40 every time I teach someone how to bunny hop I start by telling them to do this off the bike, and they always look at me like “that’s silly, of course I can do that!” But then it takes them a minute to figure it out, and when they go back to the bike… boom, bunny hops!

Bunny hop onto something. Exactly what I wanted as a beginner bunny hopper. Thanks a lot. When I do it, I figure it has to be a pretty quick and explosive move (Phase 1 through 3). But I also see some riders seem to do it slower and relaxed way. How come the difference ?
@SuperRiderTV
@SuperRiderTV 2 года назад
Some riders come in with a little extra speed or take off earlier - that gives them the extra time to pop. That’s the only scenario I can think of where you’d get away with a slower movement. If you snap the movement faster, you could also hold the flatten phase longer - that’s how you’d execute a hop over a Bunnyhop bar.

Do you have any tips or suggestions for the bar pull to hips? This seems to be the crux of the move and the thing most beginners struggle with.

Would you say it is easier to learn how to bunny hop with a BMX or with a 24” trials bike like the Inspired Element style type of trial bike?
@SuperRiderTV
@SuperRiderTV Месяц назад
That's a great question - I'm super biased on this one, but I think street trials bikes are often a bit lighter and more forgiving than BMX bikes, so I'd recommend starting there if you can.
@linusprivatmejl
@linusprivatmejl Месяц назад
@@SuperRiderTV Thanks! That was my guess, but since they seem to be a little bigger in size, I thought they possibly would be a little harder to get up high in the first phase of the bunny hop. But I trust you completely, you know your shit. Thanks for answering!
@SuperRiderTV
@SuperRiderTV Месяц назад
@@linusprivatmejl Absolutely - and again, I'm biased, but I think you'll have the best luck to pick up these skills on a street trials setup. Have fun!

It feels like your explanation is skipping something between phase 1 and 2. In phase 1, you said you lift the front wheel, as if you're going for a manual, about thigh high. In phase two, you're pushing the bike up diagonally to give the pop. But as I observe your movements on the bike, in between these two moves, you're standing up and pulling the handlebars all the way towards you (and raising the front wheel much higher at that moment) before pushing them up. That's actually the part I'm particularly struggling with. It feels like it takes a lot of core strength to be able to go from that low position on the initial wheel lift all the way up to standing with the bars against your thighs. Hopefully I will get it with practice. You make it look so easy, it's frustrating! 🙂 Thanks for the tutorial.
@RobbyNowell

Berm Peak calls this the "meerkat" position. The bike is acting like a lever to launch off the rear tire. Your bodyweight on the bottom bracket is the fulcrum. Since the Earth doesn't move (significantly 😅), the entire bike system is propelled upwards. Technique: After preloading and rocking back to get the front wheel up, you just perform a motion similar to a deadlift to bring the bar to your hips. You can practice this slowly until you get comfortable with the height. It feels very unnatural at first like you're going to fall. If your weight is too far back you will loop out. Just hop off the back. Make sure your seat is all the way down. Once you perfect this meerkat maneuver, all you have to do is perform it faster and the back wheel will come off the ground without any additional effort. At this point you push forward and scoop the rear to level the bike and raise the rear wheel even more. The rear wheel only go as high as you can get the front - more or less.
@speekha
@speekha Год назад
@@RobbyNowell Seth's video is the one that made me realize the importance of the meerkat position. Takes some practice, but I'm getting there slowly...

Same, it feels like bunnyhopping a road bike. The older 20” bikes used to have higher rise stems and you could go so high on them. Now with the longer front end, it’s a bit of a mission!
