Would be cool to have a video how a average person with a average income can buy a new one even if that means starting a partnership or club. Would be neat to lay out the math on a new one vs used in those scenarios

If average income means $50k a year then I'd have to think that there is no shot in hell of making that math work unless you do something drastic like a 6 person partnership. I've already come to accept that for those of us making under $150,000 that buying something a little older and slowly retrofitting with better avionics is our path

182 new is $515k so get 5 to invest could swing it problem is managing that many people is difficult. If you could find something older has an overhauled engine for under 300k that would be lot easier to manage for 2 person partnership.

General Aviation kind of feels like Harvey Davidson bikes. Overpriced with out of date tech in the shape of a 50+ year old design. I think Cessna’s are wonderful, but dang, $380,000 for a tiny plane with a useful load of +/- 450 pounds?? No wonder aviation is one of the few industries that you’ll find +45 year old equipment/vehicles still being used. I sure do wish that $40,000,000,000 we gave to Ukraine without my consent would have instead been given to local flight schools and even flying clubs. Lord knows it’ll be more useful to us than giving it to 2017’s voted most corrupt European country.

Look at Diamond Aircraft. They took a Mercedes base Diesel engine, modified it for aviation and put it on a very efficient airplane. AFAIK, the DA-40 is slightly more expensive than the C-182 but will probably go slightly faster and burn only about 4 gallons of Jet A1 or Diesel per hour. Yeah, I also keep making fun of that late 1930s design they still put on airplanes... (Cessna TTX might have been a cool plane, but for some reason nobody seemed to want it.)
@1KDave

Next time you are near a civil air patrol aircraft that has a glass cockpit… ask them to show you what all is in it…. All the tech and radios in that old airplane could buy another airplane…. And that’s just the 172/82’s…. Full glass cockpits with all the bells and whistles and radios were a 4 person crew can all be talking on a different freq at the same time, plus the ELT tracking stuff. Most missions they need that 4 person crew or it turns into task and information overload very fast.

We need to lay out exactly what it costs to buy a new 182, 206, 208, CJ4 and so on. Seeing the complete and total financial picture helps everyone. It helps in financial planning to one day attain these goals. Many of us have a plan in place to do exactly that. But if everyone has the same knowledge with what exactly it’s going to cost, a actionable financial plan can be put in place to buy a brand new Cessna in the future. Everyone involved in any capacity within aviation understands that buying an airplane is super expensive. Everyone gets that. So let’s just put everything out in the open so we can all see exactly what it’s going to take to accomplish the goal.

@Mark Berman - Well, At Oshkosh, so probably at Sun-&-Fun, they have Info Boards, and I believe they list Prices, there. However, Someone said $515,000 for a New C-182, in the Comments. Add 10% to 20% for whatever might be Optional, if desired, would be a start. If 10% or 20% down payment is required, financial terms, should not be too hard to figure, for 5, 10, or 15 Year Notes. However, there are Also Insurance Requirements, because it's Financed, as well as variables to that, due to the buyers various experience levels, too. Then, the Annual Inspection, and other fixed costs, like Hangars or Tie Downs, and such. Finally, come the Consumables (Fuel, Oil, Cleaners), in Operating Costs, and a decision if you are going to budget in "Reserves" for Engine Overhaul, Avionics Service, and Paint Care? So, yes, the "Spreadsheet" can get rather large, in the number of considerations, or a larger "What If" Buffer in $ should be allowed, for surprises! Like, if you budget $100 Per Hour, but, get surprised to discover it actually costs you $200 per hour, it's worse than planning for a running cost of $300 per hour, and realizing just a cost of $200 per Hour, 1 year in!
@robertweekley5926
@robertweekley5926 2 года назад
It would be nice, if Cessna themselves had 3-4 Examples, in a fairly simple spreadsheet, for each aircraft the offer! (Or Actually, Textron, since they own more than Just Cessna Brands!) However, there are probably differences in Hangar, Fuel, and Insurance Costs, sufficient, to make such "Examples" just a "Ballpark Reference!"

Making Purchasing New Planes Affordable - Ownership Sharing: I have not seen any adequate videos on this. There needs to be more info on how to form partnerships to share ownership. It needs to address the big questions like who pays for wear & tear and unusual wear or damage which might not even be noticed until nobody can figure out who caused it. If Im putting in twice the hours as others and doing soft field landings, I should pay for extra landing gear maintenance and oil changes etc. as we know if it was split three ways is still needlessly expensive. Then theres the questions of who gets to use the plane and when and who if any, get priority of use, etc., as these areas can generate dissatisfaction as well. So we need say, and Aviation Lawyer to really give us a breakdown and offer some very durable contract samples that we could take into a partnership where everybody is appropriately responsible and brings equality and satisfaction to the ownership scenarios.

Something I would like addressed is why a Cessna 172 in 1976 cost about $20,000, but in 2022 a 172 is about $380,000. $20k adjusted for inflation is $100,000, a 5X inflation increase. However from $100k to $380k is a 19X increase in price. Why does a Cessna now cost 19 times more than it use to in a world of automated and outsourced manufacturing?? 🤔

I feel like this didn't really answer the questions that I would've asked. Personally I wanna be punched in the gut with financial facts about even getting that experience. There should've been a scenario that was actually described with actual pricing as well as who would even qualify to own an airplane from Cessna. You say it's not like buying a car or house, yet the only way it really is different is the manufacturing experience, which in terms of houses, you can actually have. Some car companies also allow for customization of all the features and colors you want so in that sense both are similar. Is buying a plane different? Do you get a 72 month finance like you would with a car, or is it a 30 year mortgage like you would get with a house? How is that different? Aside from that the video was informative about how the company treats the customer during the buyer experience.

Well .9 seconds on Google will tell you than an average aircraft loan is 20 year, maybe less if its an older aircraft. Its almost impossible to make that video. The persons credit, money down and options selected all come into play. A monthly payment can swing wildly between a base 182 at $515k and something loaded that could run up into high 6 or low 7 figure territory.

@@JustJesseOfficial - More closer to the House Payment Term cycle, than a Car Term! Check out buying a $700,00 Electric City Bus, for some "Feel" of one possible situation! Like was said, a 20 Year Note on the Loan, could be Normal, but it also depends, on your ability to drop in substantial Cash, or High Value Equity on a Trade In, as well! And, if you are starting out, in Canadian Dollars, to which you need to add US$ Exchange to, as well! Plus, there may be Limits, as to how small your deposit or down payment can be, meaning how big is the Note Remaining on the Loan you Finance! I would suggest, a Solid Cashflow in excess of $2,000 US$ per month, AFTER all other Financial Commitments are covered, including Kids College if you are covering that, Retirement Investment Cashflows, and usual home and vacation expenses! Unless you enjoy extra Stress! That, is just for the "Buy" part! For the "Use" part, the same $2,000 more, would help!

Jason - Long ago I god a "Info Package" on the "Mooney 231", and discovered a "Bare Bones Airplane" was just over $100,000; BUT, after selecting the Speeds Brakes, Avionics, Extra Alternator, Nicer Seats, it was double, at $200,000 or so! With base prices of $450,000 for a New Cessna 172, or $515,000 for a base Cessna 182, ones thinking needs to change, from "Could I Buy One?" To "Got that, let's do it!" Meaning, get the Money part figured out, before chasing Airplane Ownership! As to these two prices, you likely can add 20-30% more, as a Starting plan, to buy them! Then budget your use costs, at $2,000+ per month, as well! Enjoy!

When I was flight instructing, most of our aircraft were leasebacks. I also knew people who had partnerships. Partnerships were like a divorced couple fighting over who got the kids that week. Then there were partners who didn't contribute to the "engine fund" or who left the plane dirty or who scratched, bent something they never mentioned. On the flight instructing side, people bought planes as LLC's to use in flight instruction. The planes got beat to hell and the owners always had last "dibs" on the schedule. If you can't afford to buy a plane and keep yourself as the sole user, don't bother.

The last thing I need when buying something is a salesperson trying to guide me. If I feeld that a salesperson had given any useful info I wouldn't be ready to buy an airplane. And basically how would a person be able to fly an airplane if he or she don't even know wat type of plane that fits there mission. the premis that the spokes person gives in this video seems odd.

@@TravelingStacker Yes, English is not my native language. 🤣🤣

Not picking on you. God bless if you can afford this. Not getting the bug, more like a FLU! As in sick to my stomach! 900k? Single engine? It's a 182! They sold 19, year 19 airplanes in 2022 of model 182T! Look up the sales numbers! All this for 19 people? LOL. This was a plane you could buy back in the 80's or 90's in very nice condition used 182 for 50-90k, maybe what, 100k on very high end? How is a new one now almost 1 million dollars???? Sorry, but this is pointless. It's a video that would only be relevant to top 1%. How many people even own a house worth 900k? Heck, in NJ 500-700k is a very nice home in a very nice area! Who are these for? Who buys them? Yes, rant. But, I'll tell you. MOre and more people are going to speak out again the ultrarich who keep destroying what once was well within reach to most! Make a plane 150k, you will sell to most anyone who is serious about aviation. Sell a plane for 900k? What, a few handful of clients? Uhg.

This is a toy for the ultra rich, or perhaps someone running a business. Those people don't need a 'how to' video. What airplane is less than $300 grand? Exactly ZERO middle class people can buy a 'new' airplane.

I feel like a lot of FAA rules regarding certifying aircraft are holding GA back. Rules that probably made sense 60 years ago but today just don't with advanced modeling and precise manufacturing tolerances.

A 20 year old 172 with 2200 hours is running $325k. A 2023 172 is $359k. A T206H is $750k. A goddamned 40 year old 182rg that's ACTUALLY airworthy is $200k. A Bonanza is $1M and a G58 Baron is $1.5M. I suggest that the board and executives at Textron go into a room and lock the door and do vulgar sadistic things to themselves.

The 182, especially the Turbo is just about the best all around aircraft you can have. I had a T182T, 2006 model and sold it to get a 2022 T206H and I picked it up in June this year. I needed the extra useful load. For ease of use and fuel economy and the ergonomics of use, the 182 is very, very adequate in my experience. The delivery process is a once in a lifetime experience that every pilot should strive to take part in sometime in their life.

I just might buy one: An IFR trainer w/full glass panel and just lease it to a flight school. Once it depreciates out I sell it (probably for close to want I paid). Sure I have to re-capture the depreciation when I sell but if timed right, it might work. I've done similar with real estate. If you don't need it to cash flow 100 percent it might work out, Gotta run the numbers though, HUGE pilot shortages coming down the pike, something with a full Garmin glass panel would be the ticket for an up and coming flight school. My only concern is Textron probably figured this out too and could direct lease for less ;-(
