Just bought my first set of antique teacups and this video (and your channel) have been very helpful. I chose me set based on a design I thought was pretty modern and didn't realize they were antique Haviland until doing some research.

I plan to open a tea shop so I was looking for cups I found a guy on FB market place and purchased 17 cups and saucers for only $3 each and now the guy is going to notify me whenever he gets cups in. Just one of my tea cup is worth $170.oo. Another worth $70 and another is $56. I studied and looked them up and I cant believe how much my cups are worth. Those 17 I got for $51 are all together worth $549.oo only 1 had a chip.

@@TeawithJann My mom had an antique shop and I loved wandering around with her looking for items. This was back in the 80's. I started buying tea cups that caught my eye because they fit my budget and my taste in "all things china." Fast forward to now. I'm an empty nester and downsizing. I'm ready to let go of my collection and have no clue how to go about it. After watching your video, I suppose I will inspect and look at what I actually have. Thank you for the video. Facinating! Ironically, several of the cups that you had on your table look just like several in my collection. Any advice you have for me would be welcome!

Definitely check out eBay sold items (not just what’s listed) to see what things are going for. I would look at listing them on eBay, individually, if you are looking at getting some money back. If you’re looking to just quickly unload them, you could sell them as a lot to a local-to-you reseller, but you would get much less. I have 16 tea cups and saucers from the 50's among those Royal Albert. My desire is to keep making my collection bigger. I love inviting a group of friends for tea. They just feel very enthusiastic about y tea parties.

Thanks Jann for the tips. I went to Goodwill couple weeks ago trying to get some nice tea pot and cup and saucer.. they have some in the glass cabinet behind cashier 🤔. Didnt get a close look then. Will try vintage shop next. But not sure of prices. Saw some online like 100 per set??

Oooooh yes, the prices can vary greatly, depending on maker, year, condition, colour, design, and rareness. I have paid as little as $2 for one of my Aynsley teacup/saucer sets and up to almost $300. It really varies. Perhaps I’ll chat about pricing in a future video. 🥰🙌 I hope you score a great one! 🙌

Hi i have a cup and saucer which is very delicate like a china shellfeel to it. The saucer says 105 and the cup says 140. About 2 inches tall. Its light blue and has some flowers and a man and woman old fashioned picture on them. Its got gold coloured handle and edging pattern. Its scalloped and pretty. Any ideas what this is?

Ooooh that is a difficult one. You could do some searches on Google or eBay to try and find the pattern/maker but that sounds like a difficult find. I hope you like it though 🥰

great video.. wondering if you could offer advice. i just purchased a Paragon "my valentine" tea cup and saucer. It is pretty rare and hard to find. in the description it said no chips, cracks etc... and i paid around 275$ Canadian for it. But when it came, it did have a "ding" or chip on the inside of the teacup, which i can see without any magnification needed. The seller said she didn't notice it.... and is offering me 20% off... i think this really devalues it but given its rarity, should I accept her offer or counter with something less... i am not sure how much a chip like that devalues the cup?? any thoughts?

oooh this is definitely a difficult one to ponder. With vintage and antiques, it's hard to notice everything, I hope your seller did their best, but the price point is a higher one that should have an extra look through. Sorry this happened to you. I'm not familiar with that teacup, but you could do some searching to see if it's still worth it for you. I'm sorry I'm not more helpful on this matter and I wish this didn't happen to you. Take care and I hope this doesn't stop your love for shopping online for vintage and antiques. Take care.

That’s a great question. I have not tested for lead, but definitely something we should be doing. Especially if you’re using them frequently. You can purchase test kits online. Hope that helps. And thanks for being here. 💗

I haven't had any issues with my teacups and hot water. I use the temperature suggested for the tea type/blend that I'm making. Typically I would steep the tea in a teapot, and by the time I pour into my teacups, it's cooled down a few degrees. :) I hope that helps. Sorry for the late reply, I've been on a bit of a break. Hello Shuo, thank you for your kindness. You definitely wouldn’t want to use any tea ware with cracks, chips, or damage to the glaze (like crazing). Some suggest not using any with paintings on the inside (where the liquid would go). Hope that helps. Take care. 💕

What about the numbers marked in gold at the bottoms of the cups and saucer’s. Do they have to match?

Yes. :) I'm more familiar with my antique Aynsley teacups, and they should match (it's the code for the pattern). It's a good way to see if a teacup and saucer have been 'married' and were not originally together, but might look good together. It's also a good way to search sites to find additional pieces to your set (if that's what you're trying to do). Sorry for the late reply - I've been on a bit of a break. Ooooh that’s always interesting, I would suggest looking up on eBay or Etsy (looking at sold products) can give you a good idea. Another option is to find an appraiser and have them reviewed. Hope that helps. 🩵👏 good luck!

I also love turquoise antique tea cups. I recently came upon a rare find of a Double Warrant Paragon pristine cup and saucer in the "Easter Lily". Absolutely gorgeous. Very rare turquoise. Apparently that color is quite a collectable one. I have been collecting for over 40 years , not realizing the market value at all until recently and never found one like this. I paid $1.50 for the tea cup and saucer at a thrift store. I got it home and thought I would check out if it was of any value other than my own. OMG! This cup and saucer is worth nearly $2000.00 dollars! I nearly fell out of the chair! So Into my collection I dove, to see if I had any other Paragon. I discovered another beautiful set with a floating rose and found exact cup online for $ 950.00! Insane! Now I do not know what to do? sell or keep?

I'm always scared to use them what temperature is acceptable mine has crazed!! I.e the crazy crack patterns inside. I even heard on one website it could leach lead and radiation!! How do you make sure they don't have these glazes.

Oh I don’t use any with crazing on the inside of the cup, for that reason. You could always use a lead test to be sure before using any of them. I would typically make my tea in a teapot and then pour from there, so the tea would be cooled down (definitely not boiling). Hope that helps 💕

For sure! Depending on what "worth" is to you or someone else. There might be someone without a cup that has a saucer, and sometimes just the cup is beautiful on it's own. I hope you enjoy your cup :)
