pretty much every e-bike owner i know who have had problems and need spare parts have all struggled apart from Bosch owners, who seem to cater for all replacement parts, & that's only when they have a problem, which from what I can tell is very rare. all I'm waiting for before I make an e-bike purchase is to be able to go out on a weekend mountain bike trail without a backpack full of replacement batteries

That Canyon:ON has fixed battery and non customisable assist modes. Can you live without later one when driving single tracks?

Getting ready to relocate in the mountains and need to buy a couple of these bikes for me and my partner. Spent the last month reading about and watching reviews. The one thing I do see is that the technology seems to be evolving really fast mid drives becoming more prevalent on the E mountain bike, better mid-range hydraulic brakes and suspension. Bottom line is that everything seems to be changing for the better. Which makes this decision. I did like the comment about if you're going to do it why not buy full Suspension may not be a bad idea

Sam who owned the Electric Bike Center - largest in Los Angeles - said he had least returns with Bosch motors. And most testers say Bosch responds to the rider the smoothest of any brand. I do not own one but I want to. Bad thing is Bosch did was not bringing the NYON display to the USA. It's been out for years in Europe with GPS and was more sophisticated than other displays.

I've a '21 Wild H30... I put a Halo Gravitas with an insert on the back, and I'm just changing up to Hope Tech 4 for the brakes. Apart from that I don't think I need to change anything. It's more than capable. I hate the stupid battery door but I'm not ready to upgrade yet, just because of that. But...... I bought An Orbea Alma M50 yesterday in a medium ( the Wild is large) and it's an absolute pocket rocket! Way faster down than the Wild, which I was surprised at. It really is set up nice for blue trails and gravel.... Ebikes definitely are cheating for certain disciplines and having the lightweight Alma is gonna get me working on the push up and grind/ So, in conclusion for me; If you're really into a particular discipline that is fairly ebike specific, such as techy climbing, you probably don't need to spend ridiculous amounts of money on a bike.... and the Bosch system tends to be on higher priced bikes. I chose the combination of Bosch and Orbea because, I like the ethic of Orbea and the genericness of the Bosch motor. Knowing i can travel with the Wild and rent a battery in Europe somewhere is a big plus... But I like the carbon hardtail without the motor. Not just because I can lift it over my head with one arm fully extended and walk up a hill with it

My experience of Cube and Bosch is the shocking weatherproofing around the underside of the motor. Got it replaced under warranty and the replacement, which is now out of warranty, has silicone sealant all around the non-waterproof connectors (added by me). And the Bosch is a noisy motor compared to others, even some more powerful

I've the Orbea wild and I've no issues at all and ever, and from riding with lads with shimano ep8 and other motors, it's way quieter. Especially compared to the ep8

@@tobyehillier I think you chose well. The cube is great spec for the money tbf, but the parts are a nightmare to get and the handling really twitchy I find. I only ever ride my Cube when my Levo is out of action or out of charge. The two are night and day.

Nice info but, and it's a big 'but' warranty on motors after the first year. These motors are expensive and with Brose I know that they fail unless your a once a month rider who stops and chats but what if your a hard charger where do we stand?

@Evo, my Bosch CX motor came with a 2 year Warranty in Aus. Two and a half years later, plus over 6k kms trouble free motoring, including fully submerging on numerous occasions, plus it's had plenty of abuse, I couldn't be happier - I wouldn't touch Shimano EP8 motor, if you paid me!

It’s an absolute pig! 30kgs even with a race motor simply makes no sense, not to mention that anyone with feet larger than a size 41 is going to hit he chainstays with their heels. The NICOLAI team have a great attitude, but the bike makes no sense!

It would cost me as much money to get to a festival as it would to buy a mid-ranged eMTB. I live in Australia, apparently the world hasn't noticed that we ride these 2 wheeled things too (Cadel Evans, Caroline Buchanan, Sam Hill, Jack Moir, Logan Martin, Jared Graves...just to name a few off the top of my head)

I would recommend Bosch if you want to be disappointed. I am on my 5th Bosch DU which I had to PURCHASE because Bosch ONLY warranties from date of ORIGINAL purchase.

The Nicolai team have an amazing attitude, amazingly customer friendly and professional (contrary to almost everyone else…) however the e bikes are real pigs! Just rode one in Winterberg and I genuinely can’t understand the thinking behind a 30kg bike. Even the Race motor that was on it wasn’t able to compensate for the crazy weight.

You never mention that all the Bosch E-bike systems are UL 2849 approved. That alone "trump's" all the other features. It will only be a few years before "all" E-bikes sold in the US are required to have it. I pester Special LIes every week about when they will get it. Never an answer.

I guess THE BEST should be to avoid Bosch until they make proper system for MTB (ok, some brands have integrated display in top tube and SMALL remote - finally this looks ok)

It wasn't long ago that bosch delivered their systems with that big ugly display and even worse controls. They needed to improve things or else they couldn't be taken seriously anymore.

Also let us not kid ourselves. The new bosch smart system is trash and you can't even tune your bike anymore. I regret buying a bosch, next time I buy one that can be tuned without any issues. A grandma on her e-bike goes faster then this.

I’ve had electric bikes for years but never the pricey ones. If you’re spending over 1,000 dollars for a e-bike you’re better off getting a motorcycle, dirt bike because you’re spending around the same price for something that’ll die on you . Plus I’ve always had issues with them and I’ve had two different brands but they lasted for over a year each while dogging them and that’s just the cheap ones. But after my last motor gave out I just ended up getting a motorcycle and won’t be going back.

Funny that the new Canyon has a BOSCH rather than Shitmano, I'd rather have have BOSCH to be fair, Shitmano just don't seem to be keeping up, there's no features, support, updates, nothing. They just carry on as normal not listening to customers.
