OMG thank you for the magnet trick, and whoever said to put it on top of the glass type. This just saved me $300 I don't have to spend. And I can finish my laundry! Bless you!
Good God! We just tried it. First tried compressed air to clean the lock. No luck. Then tried a magnet on top of the lid-a little to the right of the latch. And IT WORKED!!! Thank you! We called Whirlpool and their guidance was to call a service person. Thanks again!
Thanks for the magnet trick. If you have a glass top model, just leave the magnet on TOP of the lid just to the right of where the latch is. You'll feel the magnet pull a bit. Hopefully this fix lasts a while because i really dont feel like pulling the washer apart again. Had to exchange the motherboard after only 5 years.
I hate these damned features like sensors and lid lock. Half the damn time the sensor won’t work and the lid-lock is just an irritant. Thank you for this
@@Celestyal22I've had some like that in the past, it drives me up a wall. Luckily the one I bought a few years ago has a pause, and will pause forever, so no more of that for me
@@user-en9qd5nx8w it's not legally required. It is private company's implementing "features" like automatic load sensing that just happen to die and disable your washing machine every few years instead of 20 like purely mechanical ones were expected to last. Don't blame regulation, blame the government allowing so few companies to monopolize the industry.
@@cameronb8503 Good point, it's getting worse, this planned obsolescence that is being built into devices. I am sick and tired of things like app connected crap that I don't need that I know will just cause un-needed problems. It's a washer, select water level, press go.
Great idea, I will try it! It won't lock, so it won't spin.... crazy! Glad to get back to my old school washer! My daughters sucks, more electronic, the more they act up! Just like newer cars!
Thank you so much. They told me it would cost 98 dollars for a diagnostic test. 120 dollars an hour and the cost to replace the sensor part. I am a widow retired on SS with a dependent child and couldn't afford to repair or replace. God bless you.
This really helped me. My problem was that my lid wasn't locking and it was throwing an F5 error code, but when I closed the lid with a fridge magnet on the top by the latch it worked every time. Thanks a lot!
Question do my washer it’s a glass top I accidentally broke the lock the plastic clear thing to lock it do you know if this works even if the lock thing is broken
I did this with just the lego since I didn't have a magnet and it worked! I just put the lid down like it was closed even though it can't all the way with the lego in it. Still worked! ETA I have the glass top.
A little variation on the theme got it working for me. I just put a fridge magnet on top of the lid by the switch and the tab came out without malfunctioning.
@@fixittrey9913 I wasn't able to find a big enough magnet 😕 so I've just been holding the lid closed (with all my weight) til I'm able to get it started & once the light for the lid lock turns on I let it go slowly & its been working for me that way 🤷♀️ although It is kind of annoying because I only weigh about 120lbs so I gotta try it a few times before I've put enough weight on it to catch... But someone bigger/stronger should be able to get it w/out a problem... I'm usually in the back trying to start a load for about 10 to 15 minutes but my daughter who is bigger / stronger than me was able to start it like nothing 😒
Nice freaking work. I'm trying to bypass a lock on my Cabrio and I actually got the a false latch to put in place but I had no idea about the magnets I was racking my brain last night trying to figure out why I couldn't get it to mimic the door being locked cuz I need a magnet Thank you very much.
Yea just needs to be a magnet big enough to go across that gap and also whatever thing u put under that tongue that sticks out had to touch it when it pops out, when both those conditions r met it works
The lock might just be hitting the bottom lip of the lid. I cut the bottom lip off and it works fine. It no longer locks, but I am not paying $240 for a new lid!💸💸💰
Yes I totally understand what u did I'm doing that as well that Lego and magnet did not work for me ...POS washer ideas these engineers have is totally dumb...keeping it simple and reliable is not their way of thinking anymore
@@evilenergy7121my lid opens but it's stuck in lock mode. I noticed the little plastic part that would move forward has snapped. Is there a another way to by pass this or reset the board.
@@DP69ner73 the stupid thing decided to work now I sprayed a little WD-40 when I made the lock come out with the magnet just briefly...the thing here is the lock mechanism is just under that and is exposed to water I keep the lid open now as not to have moisture get in there I been unplugging the washer as well
@@evilenergy7121 not for me, realized the locking system is broken. Took the lid off, noticed the little tiny spring is a muck. I was like Fuck no more laundry today. I caused the problem as I made a clamp to stick in to have it fill up and I could add clothes, miss old washers. Well if I pushed the lock in, it engaged, ran grabbed duct tape and taped it, then added a clothes peg and taped it to the wall. Bingo it works, I fixed it, kinda and I can open the lid anytime I want. Will check to see how much it will cost to replace locking mechanism or maybe keep it the way it is until the the fu_cking thing collapses and goes to the washing machine graveyard after a wonderful eulogy. RIP Maytag! Ohh I have clean boxers that's a good thing!
This will not work on my BravosXL washer. The lid has to be 100% down, which will not happen with the magnet/lego in place. Any other ideas or options? ty
I have a glass lid, and at first, this worked for me, then stopped working after a few loads? Any suggestions? I know someone said to cut the lid, but where? I don't want to break it more. Thanks in advance!!
Hi. I am receiving the error message of F5 E2 on my Maytag washer with the lid lock. Will this work if the lid auto lid lock is broken??? Any help would be tremendously appreciated
Hi, hope you might be able to suggest something that works. I've replaced the lid lock twice already, and now my Bravos either gives one of three codes: LID , dU or DL. It will not run. It's an earlier version than yours. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!
I have a glass lid maytag. The magnet worked but I had to use a different spot. But found but cutting off bottom lip, I could close the lid and did not need the magnet.
@@fixittrey9913 Bless you. I REALLY appreciate the dimensions. I can’t wait to saw a piece of hard wood to that size. just to get this dumb Lid to stay open…. Or I may just pilfer the next-door neighbors’ kids’ LEGOs.😉😂
So can i somehow use this info to get a locked lid open after starting? Washer quit working and lid is locked with water and clothes inside halfway through a cycle. Thanks.
Do u have any idea how to unlock it once it’s already locked? Ive locked mine up during the spin cycle. now i cant get it to open back up bc i get the F5 error so i cant do anything. ive tried unplugging for over 10 mins & nothing
I absolutely hate this feature of the washer!!! I will make sure it is something that is not in the next washer. Unbalanced load is a PAIN to deal with.
I need to replace the lid lock switch with the part I ordered. I’ve got the back of my washer taken apart, but the lid is still locked so I cannot install the new part! Its a Kenmore 700 Series!
Does not work. I have a maytag centennial and the thing hangs down that fits in the lock the lid wont close so it doesnt work. You need to specify which maytags it works on.
Can anyone tell me how this gentleman was able to run this washer with the lid open? I am just trying to run a smaller load and and it wont run (Lid Lock Down) unless I put a much larger load in it, Thanks.I have the exact same Model.
@@fixittrey9913 I agree that I want the lid to be shut. I pulled the latch out and pushed it back in many times and it worked for six months. Now I am getting the clicking and it stops again. Never buy a Bravo washer or a washer with a locking lid in the future.
How? I only want it to fill part-way before I add the detergent and clothes... (That's way laundry detergent is intended to be used. You're not supposed to put detergent on top of dry clothes.) Then I would close the lid before I walked away. I can see it doing this before the spin cycle, but there's no reason it needs to be locked the whole time.
