I'm a 32 year old male, 5 foot 11, about 500 pounds. I've been eating 1500 calories or less daily for the past week. Am I doing OK? Should I go to 1200? I find that eating in bulk low cal foods helps. I follow labels religiously. I have a pack of turkey, a bag of salad, and a jar of roasted red peppers or can of green beans twice a day. Sometimes I add pickles or cucumbers. I have a fruit a day. Sometimes a 2 good yogurt or some sugar free jello, 10 calories a cup. I use bolthouse dressing on my salad, 45 calories for 2 tbsp.

Please be careful going too low, growing toddlers need about 1,200 daily. I’m a 5’10 approximately 160 lb 19 year old who lifts 6 times a week and my deficit according to the TDEE is around 2,700 calories. It sounds like you’re eating pretty good food but don’t be so strict and tight about calories where you can’t continue in the long run! I’m proud of you and stay safe please! Eat well and daily walks and you’ll see progress like crazy.

I did this and I put my info in the calorie page and it said my maintenance is about 2300 cals and a cut is 1800 which I’m kinda shocked about because my current intake is about 1600 cals. Is it possible to also be under eating and you can gain weight?

The website is just a general recommendation based on the info you enter it’s not going to be 100% accurate! And no it’s not possible to gain weight while you are in a calorie deficit. You can only gain weight when you are in a calorie surplus. If you are currently gaining weight consistently then you are in a calorie surplus

@@CassDiGiovanni yes you can gain weight even if you are under eating if you have problems with your metabolism or some other health condition. Also if you are taking certain medication

I have a maintenance on My fittnes Pal is 2040 and I eat 1100-1300 everyday for the last 23 days and when I checked my maintenance on TDEE site and it said 2,894 what amount of calories should I eat every day. (Also I am 15 and weight 182 lbs and I have been eating like this for the last 23 days.)

when you say to remove a little at a time. when you go into Calorie deficit would you say that's 100cals 200cals?

yup thats a great place to start to see if any changes happen while still eating higher calorie! if you don't see results after being very consistent for 1-2 weeks then you can always lower them

I'm confused as to why I need to track my food the first 7 days without change. Are you saying to slowly take away calories to get back to maintenance so I wont lose weight in that time?

How would TDEE work in terms of activity levels. I currently have a sedentary job with little to no exercise, however I want to increase my exercise levels. Do I go based on my activity levels now, or how I plan to exercise as there's about a 300 calorie difference just increasing to light exercise - I'm just worried about possibly under eating by quite a lot that's all :)

the point of tracking manually is to just get a better idea of how much you are currently eating right now so you have a better idea of how to properly start your deficit, so in that case, you don't want to prevent yourself from overeating since you are trying to get an accurate number for how you typically eat! hope that made sense

thats your maintenance, so your deficit can usually start around 100-200 calls below that (testing it out is the only way to know)

I started eating healthy/using my fitness pal and incorporated daily walks/jog without calculating calory deficit. Its not a true reflection of what i was eating before. What can I do in this instance? X

you could try to get an estimate of what you were eating before if you remember what you ate in a day, or, you can just refer to the TDEE number (estimated maintenance calories) for your current weight

the average calories i got from the 7 days were 1,518 and the tdee main. were 2,169. is that considered too low or close enough?

Try something in between and write down your scale weight. Then adjust from there to see if it's accurate or not. You can always adjust after trying a number for a week or so.

start as close to your TDEE as possible, you can always lower it if you dont see results after some time has passed (and you were consistent). so I would start in the mid 2000s so 2600-2800, never hurts to start higher :)
