This tutorial will go over how to simulate shear force on each bolt using the connector feature in SolidWorks.
Hope you enjoy it!
Learning Outcomes from this video:
• Setup assembly for bolted connection simulation
• FEA (Finite Element Analysis)
• Shear Force
• Stress and safety factor
• Read and modify results
• Presenting FEA results in a desired format
Thank you for watching! Enjoy!

Hi there nice video. One question why you didnt delete the Global Bonded interaction, the reason is you have already the local contact interaction and bolt connection? Your explanation is very much appreciated. Cheers!

Great video mate!! I followed along on my home computer and each time I went to run the simulation, I got a notification saying the bolts were not torqued, so I added torque, but still that seemed not to work very well. Perhaps I did that wrong, but I used a torque table I found online and it said it was an unusual torque range or something like that. How come yours didn't ask for pre-load? Also, I noticed that @4:19 you didn't actually check the Strength Data check box. I found that if I didn't check that box, I couldn't access the bolt/pin check because I didn't have strength data entered. Did I miss something that you did? Do the holes need to be exactly the size that you want the bolt to be? I've used the hole wizard to make "loose" M16 thread clearance holes which are 19mm dia. but that then doesn't like adding that size bolt. Also, I tried playing around with custom material properties and it REALLY didn't like that. Thanks for a great tutorial. Your simulation videos are teaching me heaps.
