In this lecture we will discuss static loading of bolted joints. Topics include preload, proof strength, joint stiffness constant. We will also look at torque required to generate a specific preload. Finally, we will walkthrough a SolidWorks simulation of a bolted joint and compare the results to hand calculations.

For the bolts, there’s a little pin icon next to the check/x buttons that allows you to create all the bolts in one go without losing the settings.

Thanks! That bit of information helps a lot.

Please make video example for pipeline simulations Calculations: pipeline route study, wall thickness and material grade selection both rigid and flexible pipe, collapse and buckling analysis, on bottom stability analysis, pipeline end expansion, pipeline free span, bottom roughness analysis, lateral bucking analysis, pipeline crossing and its structural supports design, fatigue analysis.

That sounds great for sure, but is a bit out of my area of experience.

At 54:00, it should be e^(Bd/l), like exp(Bd/l) means exponential. You put A^(Bd/l). Otherwise, a great video and a great series.

Nice video,Excellent explanations. I have a question: I don't understand how the safety factor calculated by SOLIDWORKS should be interpreted? Only with the preload I have a coefficient of 1.3. It is therefore impossible to have a safety factor of 2 given the preload. So when do I reach the yield point? the answer is: when the coefficient calculated by SW is 1, Right?

Curious why not use the yield strength of the bolt instead of nominal I believe it was that you used? Also I was curious as to why you did the little extrusion on the bottom of the top plate to select the specific face? Is there a reason why you wouldn't want to do it with a split line?
