A quick video to show everyone how easy it is to can fish at home. I also include several options for different flavors. Canned fish can be used in any recipe that calls for canned tuna or salmon. Budget friendly and yummy.
Good grief - what a mess! Thank you for posting this video. After watching I've decided to praise my wife and really thank her for keeping her kitchen so clean.
Oh man, those looks so good, I wish my husband and I could go fishing and catch us some big fish so we could can it and have it at our fingertips any day of the week. Watching this video has made my mouth water. Thank you for posting this video.
🤯WOW! I love the rolling method and that packed it with amazing fresh herbs and spices with an option of quick and easy lemon pepper or Cajun spice mix. I never would have thought of that. What type of fish did you use? Could I use catfish or bass? Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge!!!
Ball/Kerr/Bernardin lids per the manufacturer - DON"T BOIL THEM.. If you do, it thins out the sealant and can cause bad seals. Just wash off before using. The compound was changed over 40 years ago and many recipes never changed their canning instructions.
Okay, that is why. I have been seeing some say you don't have to anymore. I have only canned a couple times and looking to can again and learn more. Thank you for the information. Together we learn.
Hello great video it looks so good. Can you please tell me what fish fillet you used? My favorite is the lemon ,garlic and rosemary seasoning I guess that’s the Italian in me lol. Thanks
Hallo Granny, schön dir beim zubereiten über die Schulter sehen zu dürfen. Frage: kann man das auch mit gebratenem Fisch so machen? Viel Spaß wünsche ich dir weiterhin und liebe Grüße 🙂
Granny's Herbs I recently canned some suckers but upon opening the jars it was quite a smell not sure if something went wrong the fish itself looks great
Looks delicious! Do you have something at the bottom of pot to prevent jars from breaking? I heard you can use a washcloth/ small towel if you don't - maybe you did - I couldn't see it... Grat recipe for a new canner - me!
Did you watch the video to see if she was using something in the bottom of the canner?? OR DID YOU WATCH THE VIDEO TO LEARN HOW TO CAN FISH??? 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃 canning police.. get a grip! Those canner COME WITH A RACK!!! DUHHHHH
@@StayGold711 I came to watch about canning fish but I didn't see the rack on the bottom either. Yes, they come with a rack but it wasn't visible at all. Questioning that doesn't make 88msbugsy the canning police. She offered the suggestion that a towel can be placed on the bottom of the canner since it is not wise to place the jars directly on the bottom with no protective separation. Jars can shatter from the direct heat.
Grannys Herbs I do a lot of freshwater fishing on the south... catfish, bass, white bass, perch, and crappie. How would I can these? Add water or oil? What type of oil? And how much?
I see this all the time with older people, but you dont need to sterilize the jars before cooking them.Just clean them good. Cooking the jars at 10 pounds for 100 minutes will kill everything. But caning fruit is different.
You can sterlize the jars. Why do you people insist on telling others they don't have to? They know that already however you would like to take short cuts because your lazy. Safety is what matters and she did what was right in HER KITCHEN
@@StayGold711but knowing that it's a unnecessary wasted step makes taking her tutorial as knowledge not viable. Do you know of steam canning vs hot water bathing? Faster and just as "approved".
For all those just-now watching - the new Ball lids have a different sealing compound. They no longer recommend boiling them before using. If you do, you risk the jars not sealing.
SHE DIDN'T BOIL THEM DUH!! SHE PLACED THEM IN HOT WATER. IT DOESN'T MATTER ANYWAY.. SHE WAS ONLY MAKING SURE THEY WERE PROPERLY CLEAN. WHY DOES EVERYBODY ALWAYS HAVE TO PROJECT THEIR TWO CENTS??? MAKE YOUR OWN DAMN VIDEOS THEN!
@@StayGold711 My goodness you are in a feisty mood. Third comment from you and you seem to take pleasure in reprimanding those that have questions or comments. You don't have to yell about it. Perhaps you are the comment police.
Don't know where you hear these stupid rumors from. If that were the case, THEN WHY IS GARLIC USED IN STORE BOUGHT JARS... IT'S BEEN PRESSURE CANNED NOT WATER BATH CANNED!! MAN WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE??? BUY A BOOK ABOUT CANNING AND STOP WATCHING RU-vid UNTIL YOU LEARN PROPER CANNING AND STOP ASSUMING WHAT YOU HEAR!
According to the University of Alaska Extension Department quart sized jars of fish should be processed for 2 hours and 40 minutes using the correct weight gauge for your altitude. Skin-on fish can be placed in jars either skin or flesh side showing. Skin side facing outward can be a little harder to remove from the jar just because it can have a tendency to stick a bit.
It's not a bad idea but not in the jar (that's another kind of canned fish). You can spray 1-2 spoons of vinegar on the salted and peppered fish and leave it to rest for half an hour before pouring the liquid off. It makes fish meat give away its flavours stronger. The same is true if you can it under oil (using basically the same procedure).
Its best to pressure cook meats. Boiling water only reaches a certain degree, while pressure cooking reaches higher degrees and kills Bacteria and prevents Botulism if sealed right.
Jimz we can a lot of fish because we live in the country and the power goes out for days at a time. I agree that Fresh fish is always the best tasting fish
Make sense but sometimes you see a good deal an you already have food you premade so canning it wood make sense. Especially if you're single or on a budget or have a big family
Oh No. After watching this video again I notice several things. #1, get yourself a proper jar lifting tool. Using those tongs is only asking for a dropped and broken jar. #2, the really big one, When you lid your canner, you have to wait until it's venting a steady stream of steam, THEN wait for 10 minutes before putting your regulator/weight on the vent pipe. I wait until the lock pops up before I start my 10 minute timer. then after the 10 minutes, I put the regulator/weight on the vent pipe.
@@MK-js8zv the reason you vent for 10 minutes is to make sure your canner is completely full of steam and ready to go to full temperature. And No, your food wont turn to mush.
@@StayGold711 There's a reason to can foods properly. Food safety being #1. Botulosm is serious and can be fatal. You do it however you want and chance getting your family sick or possibly kill them. But dont go making instructional videos telling people the wrong way of doing it and possibly giving people instructions on how to kill their families.
@@rubbnsmoke IDIOT YOU DON'T GET BOTULISM FROM NOT USING THE PROPER JAR LIFTING TOOL OR TONGS!!! JUST SHUT THE HELL UP AND STOP YOUR BS. YOU AIN'T FOOLING NOBODY OR SCARING ANYBODY!! NO WAIT... I TAKE THAT BACK!!! WHAT A KAREN!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
No it wont.. your an idiot. It's pressure cooked and sealed in the jars. This is done by proper guidelines. You need a special canner called a pressure CANNER THAT USES HIGH PRESSURE AND HEAT TO COOK AND KILL MICROORGANISMS AND SEALS THE JAR BY SUCTIONING THE AIR OUT. And pressure can process for specific guidelines time. The only thing that will rot is your brain if you don't get an education. It's called PRESSURE CANNING FISH FOR LONG TERM STORAGE... WHY DON'T YOU GO LOOK IT UP AND LEARN SOMETHING
@@ARCSTREAMS I mean to boil the jars to sterilize them prior to filling them. I didn't think it was necessary to clarify that. I figured most folks would have the common sense to know what I meant.
@@rubbnsmoke most folks have not heard of or done this before so they can not necessarily have common sense to know what you meant ,as for me i understood you meant sterilizing the jars but asked a rhetorical question to point out for other folks ,yes you should make it more clear what you meant because there is more than one boil in the process
@@ARCSTREAMS I think it would be abundantly clear throughout their house after only a few days if they didn't process the jars that he fish was rotting. And if they didn't notice it then, they sure would opening a jar after a month or two. lol
@@rubbnsmoke true lol and you are right there is no need to sterilize them first unless its for beer or something that is not gonna be cooked in them, but since they are cooking the stuff whatever is in there will be sterilized bugs and all
