We always have grain free chips and roasted red pepper hummus in the house! Kitchen looks nice but I am sure you are ready for it to be totally done and everything in its new place!... ps.. little side note... Did a big batch of sausage and hamburger today and tomorrow is ugly chicken and your split pea soup with ham recipe. Been really keeping my canner busy lately so I just ordered more lids and your code sure did come in handy so Thank You 🤗🤗

The hummus and chips sound so good, Jodi! I'm not sure how I could keep my husband from sneaking into it. He has found all of my hiding spots! You will be so happy to have the sausage and hamburger on your shelf. And ugly chicken. From chicken salad to enchiladas to chicken soup, it's always a winner. HUGE timesavers! David loves the split pea soup. Hope you do too! Thank you so much for using my code for the lids. The viewer support is quite humbling.

Oh those look fantastic! So much better homemade as to store bought. I would keep the brine and put it in the fridge with some hard boiled eggs in it and after a week or so you have some nice pickled eggs. I have noticed last few years those pickled onions from the store just are not the same as when we were kids at Christmas time and mom would put out trays of cheese and onions etc. Can be a little time consuming peeling the onions like when I do Frog Balls ( brussel sprouts) but well worth the effort. Kitchen looks great Carter and as always so nice to see you. Cheers!

Hey, Sheila! One of these days, I'm going to have to put on my big girl pants and try a pickled egg! I have no idea why I have this aversion to even trying them, but I think it's high time, don't you?

Thank you Carter. Kitchen looks good. Did you relocate the sink? Love your new backsplash. I know you are ready for it it be complete. Always save my brine never know what you can make. How about soaking mini mozzarella balls for just a short time? Or making a tart/spicy giardiniera. I think a lot of people don't entertain at home because of this "perfect home look" from social media or thinking their food isn't "restaurant" quality. Back in the day everyone brought something for a pot luck and we played cards or games. No one could afford to go out. ha ha We were 27 degrees last night in North Texas. Glad I didn't jump the gun on gardening. Have a great week.

Good to see you, Donna! The main sink is still in the same place. I added a very small prep sink to the island, primarily so I could wash my hands while cooking. Love your ideas for using the leftover brine! More good things to put on a platter. I hope entertaining at home will come back. I think we're all more critical of our own homes than others are. We definitely do a semi-potluck here. We have 3 other couples with whom we get together often. The hostess will generally do the main dish, a side and an appetizer. The other 3 couples are responsible for either a second appetizer, a dessert or a salad. Everyone brings what they're drinking. It couldn't be easier or more relaxed. It's certainly far cheaper than going out these days! You were chilly last night! Glad you held off on the garden too. What's your average last frost date?

I'm curious as to why you didn't just put the peeled onions in the jars, then add the hot brine, to cover them? Is there a reason they need to cook in the brine, before canning?
@growandpreserve

Because I didn't want the onions to have the raw onion bite.
