How To Canoe Trip With Your Wife - 4 Day French River Canoe Trip. Exploring the Old Voyageur Channel 

I grew up spending summers at Harley Bay and worked at Kamp Kaintuck and a few lodges as a fishing guiding. Just a note that where you turned left to cross the very open Wanapitei Bay at Kamp Kaintuck... If it's windy and you're not staying at SIte #618, which we call The Bad River Turn", the Wanapitei River is a good protected alternate route and often you'll see lots of wildlife (turtles, deer, herons, eagles, etc.) along the shores. You could also turn left before that, the first channel on your left after leaving Hartley Bay, and head towards the French River Lodge (FRL) via the :S-Turn" as it's protected from the west winds. Then, once you pass the FRL head south toward the main channel at Eaglesnest Island and hug the west shore to avoid the west winds.I highly recommend touring the Bad River and south towards The Fingerboards through the many stunningly beautiful "inside channels". Afternoon (2:00-4:00PM) bass fishing on the inside fringe of the south Fingerboards can be rewarding. Lindy Rig with hook and worm ;-)

I introduced my husband to canoe tripping 10 years and it’s become the become the best thing for our marriage. Our times out there, working through a tough portage in the rain, facing a headwind, or breathing in the quiet beauty bring us closer together. Our there, we are a team. Great little video thoroughly enjoyed it. I spent many years in Hartley Bay and the Wanipita. Have also been all the way down to Georgian Bay and over to the train trestle part way down the main channel then to the east. You did a good job capturing the beauty and serenity of the French. That's great you got your wife on a canoe trip and she enjoyed it despite the headwinds. The southern winds coming up the French River is notorious. Despite the cottages and boats, the French River is a great place to paddle, especially if you tuck in away from the main channels and get off the beaten paths.

Canoeing is so much fun! Looks like such a beautiful river. The water is so gorgeous. Love finding other Canadians on RU-vid, we subscribed and can't wait to see all of your adventures

Love the French! have spent many summer weeks over 20 years there! I was suprised to see on 618 the fire pite right next to a tree! next time try the 18 Mile Island loop, better wind hiding spots! and the rapids are GREAT!

driving down hartley bay road you would of passed 3 houses my grandfather built such a wonderful area gods country, i was also a fishing guide out there at Kamp Kentuck, not sure you seen it or not but what a lovely place

My wife and I did a similar trip several years ago and it didn't seem to matter which direction we went the wind was always in our face. A challenging area for sure. Our trip was cut short by a fire ban and I didn't bring a stove with us. Anyway, beaitiful trip, well filmed.

I can’t believe that’s the first canoe trip with your wife . My wife was in the boat every chance she had before we got married. But she was a real country girl and fish with her folks long before we got together. That’s what I loved about her. I was a big city guy but I love hunting and fishing.

Just did that same trip last summer in August. Down Old voyager channel to Georgian Bay across to Bass lake and back up to Hartley Bay. That south wind was a killer but the views were worth it.

Gorgeous scenery. I’ve never had good luck fishing the French, but I’m not that great of a fisherman at the best of times.

Nice to “meet” your wife. Looked like a good first trip for her. Too bad the fishing wasn’t all that productive. I had similar when I was there last, we did however discover that it was easy to catch channel cats right off of our site.

From a young age my dad was kind enough to take me to the upper French River...this is one of the places I'd like to canoe trip...in fact I'd like to canoe trip the length of it

Thank you for posting this video....after owning cottage and big cruising boats, we sold our home and live in a condo in Toronto...We want to buy a canoe for Ontario exploration.... Your review of your canoe sold me..I like the light weight and strength..perfect for loading on top of our suv..also the weight capacity and stability appeal.....I have canoed many times in my younger days...I used to Duct tape my paddles together so I could paddle like a kayak...very quick... Here's a dumb question.. When you paddle solo, you sit on the wider seat facing forward... When you paddle with 2, Do you reverse positions?..with your wife facing forward on the wider seat?...
