I spent 4 days camping alone in one of the most beautiful areas in Ontario, French River Provincial Park over the August long weekend. My 4 day solo kayaking trip was a truly magical experience. This area is incredibly scenic, but some parts can also be very dangerous and challenging. I would be fortunate enough to experience both of those things and so much more! Check out day 1 & day 2, where I find the worst campsite and best campsite and struggle with weather, self doubt and finding a first come first serve campsite on a long weekend! This is a 2 part series and part 2 can be found below, or click the link at the end of the video. I hope you enjoy the adventure! Cheers!
For a written account of the trip, please see my blog post at bit.ly/2Lwyonw.

Oh how I wish I cud find a single woman who is just like you down here in South Carolina. I’m sure I would be a happy man!! How come all the good ones are so far away? Woe is me, woe is me. Love the video, your choice of food, your love for the water wilderness and your awesome personality!!!

The French River is my favourite canoeing destination and I've visited it some 20 times since 1995. Last time, in June, 2023, we departed from Hartley Bay and stayed on Boom Island. Unfortunately, it was not a very good trip: the fire ban was in effect, occasionally smoke coming from the Quebec fires made breathing difficult, the sunny & scorching heat almost prevented us from being on the open water, at 9:00 pm we were attacked by swarms of mosquitoes and last, but not least, fishing was absolutely horrible-basically, no fish whatsoever! Nevertheless I still preferred spending my vacation on the French River than in the city!

I never heard of peameal bacon, but then I'm from Pennsylvania. Lancaster County - here, we eat scrapple with maple syrup.

It’s just unsmoked back bacon made from boneless pork loin. It has a bunch of other names. You probably have a equivalent there of some sort? I hope you enjoyed the video. Cheers!

You originally said canoe trip Christina, Freudian slip? Does this mean Kevin has converted you to the canoe team? Nice trip! Happy Paddling!
@CamperChristina
@CamperChristina 7 лет назад
LOL, yes, I did. I had just done a canoe trip. Haha. My very first trips were actually all by canoe 16 years ago. Kevin likes to take credit for conversion but I have always done both kayak and canoe tripping. Just more kayak recently because I own 2 and don't own a canoe. Someone has recently lent me one to use for the season so I have been doing a few more trips. I am actually planning a big one for this coming weekend! Stay tuned! (hopefully, I survive! hahaha) Happy Paddling to you as well! thanks so much for watching and for commenting! :) Much appreciated!

Due to my concussion, I am unwilling to solo kayak at the moment. Have done so for 4 years, but I need to go out with someone to verify my skills since the accident.

A question for Christina or any owner of a Delta kayak (16'-17') I am awaiting delivery on a 17' Delta which recommends a paddler weight of 170-240lbs. I'm 175lbs-- bottom end of recommended weight. So if a woman is paddling a 16' the minimum weight is 140lbs. So if you are at the low end of recommended paddler weight how does this craft handle.

I would check with delta. They have a great customer service team and any time I’ve contacted them I’ve gotten a reply. I hope you enjoyed the video. Cheers

How much does the kayak weigh and how are you portaging it? I'm really enjoying your videos! I paddle in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in Minnesota on the Canadian border.

@CamperChristina

It doesn't happen overnight, you build up to it very slowly. I started just doing day trips at first, then my fist overnight was almost 3 years ago now, solo. It's on here. I went to the Massasauga and since I'm scared of the dark also, it was a tough one, but I made it and eventually did more and more and here I am. I also took a lot of courses and bought items to ensure safety on the trips and those give you a lot of confidence. I have a presentation I did at the Outdoor Adventure show on my channel on solo camping. It explains how I ended up becoming a solo camper and the steps I took. Might be helpful for you. Hope you continue to check out my videos and enjoy them. Cheers Andreia!
