Great video! I unashamedly shift my scarf from front to back during dinner whether I’m at home or in a restaurant 😂. And I usually wear perfume on my wrists on scarf days, as I don’t want the scent of stale perfume, even my own, on my beloved scarves.

Thank you so much! I was dismayed to find a powdery substance on my scarf that left marks in several places. I really don’t want to take it to the dry cleaners because of the chemicals. I have several autoimmune disorders. I’m so thankful I can hand wash! A godsend ❤

If you do take your scarves to a dry cleaner, make sure they understand that they should never put safety pins or other kinds of pins in your scarf. Otherwise you’ll end up with small but permanent holes in the silk. Thanks for your informative videos!

I used to dry-clean my silk and cashmere scarves, then hand-cleaned 1-2 but now I machine-clean them at home with all the conditions you mentioned and they came out soft, deliciously perfumed and well-ironed. I save so much $ 😅

Thanks for a very helpful video….In case other viewers are considering a similar purchase, I thought I would also mention the following: My latest scarf adventure began with your (Maya’s) endorsement of the still-not-available-in-U.S. Vanilla/Almond Green/Coral colorway for Annie Faivre’s “Les Jardin Des Peintres”. It ended six weeks later with my first ever purchase of a current season scarf from a secondary market vendor. The result: no questions about authenticity (69g etc.), six-day service from Japan, and saved a few bucks. In case you have not seen this beauty in person, the contrasting hem is - to echo my granddaughter - “To Die For”.

Thanks for your comments, Jeff. Congrats on tracking one down; that colorway is a beauty!

Last month I got skin tone sunscreen on the white section of my hermes scarf. Ive washed it with Le Blanc silk wash from Amazon. Stain is still slightly there. I guess I will take it to the dry cleaners.

I just bought my first Hermès scarf, which was pre-owned. Would you mind sharing the brand of baby wash that you use? And what kind of vinegar do you use for the rinse? I want to wash my scarf, especially since it was pre-owned, but I'm so afraid I might damage it, even when being careful. Thank you so much for your videos and advice. I'm just getting into wearing scarves and you have such a wonderful channel!

Ooh how exciting! I’ve always used J&J baby wash, but that’s more out of sentimental reasons than anything else. Really any baby wash should do. As for rinsing, adding 1/4 cup of white vinegar to the first rinse helps remove the soap residue. Good luck and thanks for your comments!

I also ask the dry cleaner not to press the hems to keep them plump. Thanks for your videos.

how many times do you rinse and how much vinegar do you use - is it apple vinegar or ?
@cranleyplace
@cranleyplace 6 месяцев назад
White vinegar and really it’s only a capful in the water if you’re using a bathroom sink. Rinse as many times as needed to remove any remaining suds. Good luck 🍀

Hi when i go to the Hermes's website on scarves, under their care instructions "Not to wet it in rain, water etc so do you mean if i were to wash it with water it is ok? I mean using the way that you showed in your video here? I wanted to add some Hermes scarves into my collection and as an accessory for my outfit but am worried about the care instruction till i found your video. Hope you will be able to advise me. Thanks 🤗

That is indeed what H recommends and you can always opt for dry cleaning if you’re not comfortable. I personally don’t care for that due to the chemicals and once a cleaner used pins on my scarf which obviously can damage the silk or cashmere. I’ve been hand washing my scarves for years without issue, knock on wood, using exactly the same method I discuss in this video. Thanks for the question and hope that helps!

@@cranleyplace Yeah frankly i prefer to wash it myself and after watching your video and this is possible, i am more convinced to buy some Hermes scarf as part of my outfit accessories. I had one but afraid to ruin it so i hardly use it. Thanks for sharing 😍

When ironing you did not mention to NOT iron the rolled edges or does this even matter? If you did iron edge flat would it pop out after a wash?
@cranleyplace
@cranleyplace Год назад
It’s a good question: I iron UP TO the hems, never over them.

What is the vinegar to water ratio? I live abroad and have no feeling for how big or small your sink might be... Also is it okay to wash the sink with chemical cleaner or what do you use to clean the sink before washing your scarf in it?
@cranleyplace
@cranleyplace 7 месяцев назад
Idk the metric amounts, sorry, but it’s about 2 oz of vinegar per gallon of water 💦 just a touch! And for cleaning the sink, baking soda is what I use. Hope that helps and thanks for the questions!
@riesemma
@riesemma 7 месяцев назад
Thanks! Looks like about 59 ml vinegar to 3.79 liters of water- I am not sure our vinegar will be as strong as US vinegar but this can be a starting point and then I'll try adjusting the ratio!

I’m told by a luxury clothing expert that the folds in an Hermes scarf have value (so don’t press them out!); thoughts?
@cranleyplace
@cranleyplace 8 месяцев назад
That’s an interesting thought, Sally! I would say an unworn scarf with its original folds has value. Once you start wearing it, though, even if you tried to somehow maintain the folds, the silk starts to soften. Folds on a preloved scarf wouldn’t mean much to me, other than it may not have been cleaned. If it’s being advertised as unworn, new silk does have a different feel to it.
