The Selenicereus Chrysocardium, otherwise known as the fern leaf cactus, is an incredible houseplant which has some really cool characteristics.
In this video I’m going to be talking about how to care for Selenicereus Chrysocardium (formerly Epiphyllum Chrysocardium), different propagation techniques, how to get your fern leaf cactus to flower and how I fertilise my large fernleaf cactus. I personally find these an easy indoor plant and I’ve even included a look at my mum’s large plant so you can see how huge these uncommon plants can grow in your home.
These are my tips from experience and might not work for everybody, so if you’ve got any other useful plant care tips for these incredible plants please leave them in the comments!

Great informative video 🏆 just to let you know, you don't have to go through all the minarkie to get blooms. All plants need seasons to trigger bud formation. Some need more, like mimicking a particular characteristic of a season. Keeping a plant in one window is important, but not enough for some. It's details like drought and cool nights that set the buds. So, what I did is made double thickness drapes that went around all the plants at night. This kept the temperature for the plants cooler than my house. No feeding, and water was cut down by over half. Then in the early spring, start increasing water a little at a time ! For too much can make the buds die. Being careful at this stage you'll be rewarded with beautiful blooms. Along with these were orchids, and Christmas cacti. All bloomed ! Hope this helps !

Hi Florence, this is a gorgeous plant and I love it for the fern like appearance (especially for fern killers like me :D). Thank you for making such a detailed video with all useful information :) she definitely needs more limelight, such an underated plant :) I did not have any problem with water propagation once again, rooted in abt 10 days (UK Summer) and i struck it soil, I also propagated by sticking in straight in soil as well ;)

What a great explanation! I have this plant and it’s doing really well. I’m in Colorado and it’s pretty dry here but my plant hasn’t suffered at all. No flowers though. Maybe one day! I think I’m going to try propagating! 😃

Thank you! That’s great to know that it’s not just ours that are ok when humidity drops! I think a sudden temperature drop definitely helps with getting it to a flowering stage

Hi Florence, thank you so much for sharing this video, your plant is really beautiful! 😊 I propagated a part of my selenicereus in water and it rooted easily in a couple of weeks, a perfect method to share it 😊

Really helpful, thank you! I have a very healthy one and I’m wondering if I need to repot it. Basing this on the amount of foliage vs the size of the pot. Although it seems happy and has new growth I just feel like it’s time..? Any thoughts on when to repot?

I have a love hate relationship with the sky planters... I think the terracotta ones are better but I still think the watering system, being through gravity and not the plant drawing the water it wants is problematic

What do i do after i put this plant in 6-8 weeks of darkness??
@FlorenceOzkan
@FlorenceOzkan 4 года назад
It shouldn’t be in darkness 24/7, only for 12 hours a day. You should see buds start to form in which case, from what I’ve read, when the buds reach a substantial size you can resume placing it in its normal situ. However, if the plant is too small it might abandon flower buds if they take too much energy
