Just got my black velvet and I'm in love! I actually potted him with my green velvet (micholitiana/frydek) and so far so good! I added mychorrizae to the roots to stimulate growth. Just came back to this video to make sure I'm on the right track 😉

Thank you! The mychorrizae are a beneficial fungi that you put on the roots. It's proven to help stimulate growth and development for our babies. I use the great white brand and my plant babies seem to love it! Although my green and black velvets look amazing together, I think I may end up separating them because they seem to have different watering needs. The black velvet needs so much less water and I realized that after you mentioned the hardiness of its stems.

Hi Mark! Sorry for the late reply! i took some time off my channel the last month because work was getting a bit busy! I used a feather duster to dust any dirt off but I kept it to that because I've heard they don't like to be touched too much!

Shower. When it’s time to water spray it with a bottle of very lightly diluted dawn dish soap like a drop in 2 cups of water shake it up and. It’s the whole plant underneath and on top then run room temp shower water over it all the way so it rinses the leaves and runs through the soil for a minute then ur good to go I grab a paper towel and wipe the leaves in the middle of the shower. This is just what I do and mine has 7 leaves on it and it seems happy. I kinda do the same thing with all my multi leave plants that it’s to complicated to wash by hand.

Hey Naras sorry for the late reply! how is it doing now? I don't mist the leaves on mine because unless i can guarantee the leaf would be dry, it could encourage fungal growth in humid environments. I think theres a belief that misting leaves would help increase humidity but the reality is that its negligible unless you're misting every couple of minutes. Hope this helps!

I’m not an expert but I would cut it off probably just stress from shipping which always happens to me , usually yellow means it’s a goner

jessypotplants hey!! I left it as it is. I just put water under the pot (it’s elevated up from the water so it doesn’t touch) and water it once a week. the leaf is just old i think???? it seems healthy i guess hahaha

Hey Angela - hopefully not! suggest you check how moist the soil is to make sure there isn't root rot. Is it just one leaf?

jessypotplants yes just one it started when i divided the root from the mother plant

hey there priscilla!! aw you're to sweet! i think so - or you could try using a jar as a bell top which should have the same effect. I personally prefer this method for my more juvenile/ delicate plants because it doesnt rub its leaves during this sensitive period! Let me know how you go and enjoy your beautiful new plant!

Hey Lizzy! my velvet had died back last winter so in summer it was a small little plant. There's one leaf on it atm and I'm keeping it indoors at the moment. I found it super sensitive to water and cold!

@@jessypotplants I'm in NY. It's spring but it hasn't warmed up yet. It happened right after I watered it. It continued for a couple of days but now it's fine again. So maybe it was just the water. Thank you for your reply
