thanks for the video.... i couldn't get the calipers off and thought i was doing something wrong. Your hammer use showed me i couldn't hurt them. Using a big flat head to push the piston in, got me freed up.

I like how the caliper just hangs by the brake hose. Real smart.

Serious people. The man took his time to show people how to do a brake job. Without videos like these you'd be paying a mechanic. So what he let the caliper hang from the hose. Fucking cry about it. If you don't like the mans video, here's an idea. DON'T WATCH IT!

DANG at the haters!!! I'm curious as to why some people are even looking at a how to video since they seem to already know it it all already.(and are very quick and overly vicious to point out every flaw on someone else's video). Yes, theres some problems with this video, but if you're doing your own brakes, I'd hope that you'd do some actual research, and view more than one short video before attempting a brake job. ;) Personally, I appreciate this video since I do know how to do brakes in general, however, I wanted to check to see if there were any differences/tips or tricks to changing them on my truck as opposed to some of my cars. Thanks for the video.

If you retract the caliper pistons before pulling caliper they will come off easy, never use a hammer on break components, this can cause damage that may cause your breaks to fail

Great! I'm about to do mine here in the uk, looks fairly simple, although everything under my truck is rusty as they put so much salt and crap on the roads in winter!

Is it not necessary to put brake lubricant on the tips of the brake pads and the caliper bolts for this truck? Cuz it helps my car for sure.

I'm not hating for the sake of hating, but you really should use jack stands. Keeping your vehicle on a floor jack like that could potentially end very very badly.
@jeffrehder3905
@jeffrehder3905 9 лет назад
yes the lubricant is for antisieze so the brake won't lock up while braking them in. brakes in time is about 50 to 100 miles. I also bleed the brakes to flush out any air that got into the system while changing them.
@buderickbundy6631
@buderickbundy6631 7 лет назад
Jeff Rehder why would you bleed the brakes to change pads you never had a line off so that's a waste of time
@allenperkins5098
@allenperkins5098 9 лет назад
buncha people hating on the process, the job got done, and i bet his brakes work fine. i just have two things to add. one you bought the cheepest brakes possible so see you in 6 months. two, you never let the caliper hang by the hose unless you want to replace a hose too. otherwise nice.

Yeah decent video. Don't listen to those idiots that just like to be assholes. Jack stands and caliper hanging are definitely something you would want to do for safety and less chance of damage to your brake lines but as far as removal and replacement of the pads, good video. Hooah Army lol
@rustyshackleford7130
@rustyshackleford7130 11 лет назад
Decent info, not to pick at you but if showing other people how to do it, use a jack stand, and also never allow a caliper to hang on the brake line. The use of the old pad is a good tip so you don't need two clamps.

Put the jack in a safe place, use jack stands. Use one of the old pads with one clamp to push in the pistons.

I use jack stands and i put the tire under the truck/car so if it were to fail the stands a tire will hopefully catch it.

The ONE THING I wanted to see, you don't show (how the pads go in... which side the noise tab goes on) You really shouldn't let the caliper hang by the hose. That will damage the hose.
@MrMarc806
@MrMarc806 7 лет назад
hey buddy. You should never hand your caliper hang like that. Always use a hanger or some type of wire to hand it from the frame. You could damage the brake line that way.. Just saying ,,OK thanks for the video
@crazyant123456789
@crazyant123456789 13 лет назад
bro you can use a c clamp and one of the old brakes to compress the piston lol good job though
@johnnytodd9328
@johnnytodd9328 7 лет назад
This is how to possibly get yourself killed and possibly ruin your brake line by allowing the caliper to hang from the hose line, no hating here just want you to live long enough to enjoy your new brakes, get yourself some jack stands, your family will appreciate your effort, so you will be around to take care of them

Dang beat it with a hammer instead of pushing the caliber piston back in....really????? Please read up on how to do the job before filming it. You have to get the pads to clear the edge on the rotor first then it will fall off. Never let the caliper hand by the hose. Use one clamp with the old brake pad to push both pistons back in. Aggghhh so many blunders in this video.

thanks for the video, it gives me an idea if there any tricks to this one and it seems routine. I would use Never-seize or grease on the caliper bolts. other wise not a bad video. haters will hate screw em

Wow dude. No jack stands? What a great way to crush a hand, arm or a leg. Yeah, yeah - relying entirely on the cheap o-rings and seals in a Chinese made floor jack to hold up the corner of a 5,000 lb truck will work, until the day it _doesn't_. I seem to value my body parts a lot more than other people do theirs...
@buderickbundy6631

OK, NOT a hater, but I stopped watching at 4 min's. 1. Uneven surface. Did you see how that truck "fell" into position? Glad nobody's hand, leg, arm, face, or infant was under there. 2. Jack Stands: Buy a pair! Then learn to use them. 3. I lost interest, and realized my reply would be a tome if I continued. When you're removing the calipers, retract the calipers first! Then PULL BACK on the brake shoes. It will come off with your thumb and index. And really? Banging on it with a hammer? I'm gonna stop and not call you stupid. My momma always told me you can learn something from everyone. Even if it's NOT how to do it. Don't follow this fella's advice. He's nice enough. Hard worker, well-intentioned, but the LAST man on this earth to be showing others how to change brakes. Go to Pep Boys, sir!
