You don't understand how much your videos on the Lucerne have helped me, I recently bought a 2008 model and it's been littered with problems, I know once I get it running again she'll treat me right again but for now thank you for all the work you put in the videos and cars I appreciate you greatly!
Just changed an alternator today. Thank you for the video. Ended up being easy to do. The tensioner was my biggest concern, thought i needed a tensioner tool, but watching the video, it’s done with a 15 mm socket on a ratchet. Everything is working ok and charging system working as it should. THANK YOU !
I had my alternator checked out and the diodes were burned out. I used your video to replace my alternator and it was smooth sailing ! Thank you for your video in getting this done ! The mentioning of the tools and tool sizes were a great help Mate ! all my best !
Thanks for naming the nut sizes. Easy fix, thanks for the walk through. Heard a whining sound last night. Voltage was 12.04 with the engine running. Now its 14.4.
My neighbors lucerne had me replace her battery which was at only 9 volts but after I saw it wasn't getting anything from the alternator however if I whacked it with a wrench while running the volts would jump to 13 volts so prob worn brushes ect but got a refurbished alt and this video took the headache away and saved money thanks you sm!
Just had my alternator fail and strand me on the side of the highway, on Christmas eve with a back seat full of presents. Thank God for my wife mom who picked us up
If it's a csx with the Northstar , it a total different procedure. Most shops charge $400 to$600 just to change the the alternator, this doesn't include the price of the alternator.
@@TWAMotorsports I have an 08 Lucerne and I need to replace the alternator! The whining is so loud! But I am also getting brake, abs, traction and stabilitrac warning lights😖. It has over 200k miles so not sure if I wanna invest money into it. But engine runs a1!
Good video, Travis😎My Wife has the exact same car, only Silver. Hopefully your Lucerne is alot more trouble free than ours. Its had things replaced that I've rarely seen on a lower mileage late model car(rear calipers, rear air shocks, upper motor mount, climate control items etc)...kinda frustrating. I'm not paranoid, but I'm fairly sure the car is possessed 😈I've been telling her for the last few years that it needs to leave to make room for a 5th Gen Camaro(we've had it for 7 years now) & I'm not picky about the method(theft, act of God, runaway car colliding with it--no one in either car that would get hurt btw) Its a '06 and not the first '06 GM vehicle we've owned that has had issues...it was a product of the bankruptcy that was going on at the time & pretty sure that affected the build quality. Sorry for being so windy and opinionated 😄😄😃😃Keep up the great content!
Any idea what cause these to go bad? I’m on my second battery/ alternator in 3 years. Saved a ton of money doing it myself the second time... thank for the video!!!
Ugggh wish I had found this video last weekend......we also heard the "whine" coming from the sepertine belt, and I also thought it was the power steering pump...... So while out driving to work, it all happened to my roommate.....She pulled into walmart and bought a new battery..... problem fixed.....until it happened to me yesterday. So looks like I am dragging out my metric tools
@TWAMotorsports Hi, and thank you so much for your video. I have a 2007 Lucerne and I just had this same issue come up. My question is does the alternator have to be a specific brand purchased. Someone just told me that I probably was going to have to get it ordered by the dealership. I hope you see this and you respond and again I truly appreciate this vid. I thought I was going to have to take it in to the dealership.
Is this a v6 or v8? I’m looking at possibly getting a 2007 Lucerne with the 4.6l v8 and wondering if they have a lot of issues or if they are pretty reliable.
How did you know the diagnose to know the alternator was bad? I have replaced the battery in mine and the vehicle only starts when I jump it to get it going. Runs fine and then when I power off the thing wont start again... Any advise?
I want to see you change one on a csx with the north star. I think you should put what kind of Lucerne you have in the title. I could teach a 10 year old to change one with a v6
@@TWAMotorsports do you think I could swap out a 2010 bumper with a 2009 bumper? Or would it need too many modifications? trying to get a custom grille
I realize the comments were couple years ago but I have a 2006 lucerne cxl 3.8 v6 has 62,000 miles on it. My mom got it used then she passed n 2017 so it was given to me. No major problems. Had motor mounts replaced couple years ago along with serpentine belt. Then battery several months ago then water pump bout 7 months ago then power window regulator. I honestly could have done both those repairs myself. Driver seat only works when it wants and both 12v accessory ports stop working bout to replace them. Have small amount of paint beginning to chip. But honestly I have not kept it clean inside or outside and just started doing that 3 weeks ago and it looks great pearl white exterior and sparkles n the sun. Watching this video since I do have some electrical issues going on and my cobra rad 450 radar detector kept saying warning low car voltage powering off for a very long time before that last port just quit on me. So thanks for the info. Not a whole lot of info for repair on Lucerne. Can’t even find the accessory port change out info. Luckily tho one is under driver seat so have easy access to wiring harness and can touch the port and the other is in spot next to an ash tray so I remove piece to dump ash tray and gives me access to that port as well. So hopefully can get them out without a prob and the replacements will do the trick cause fuses were fine. Just little concerned about doing repair need to dc battery cause the ports normally continue to remain working even when ignition turned off and I don’t wanna get shocked. But I haven’t heard anything but people complaining over n over so nice to see some people who finally seem to have good luck with this car like I have.
Easy job, about 15 minutes, You will change the fuse block soon also next to the battery. it will short out, It cost me $350 at the dealership to buy the fuse block and literally took 25 minutes to install. These cars are always a problem, Everything goes on them, I know i have one.. I even have replaced things 2=3 times on the same parts. especially the heater elbows.... I don't know what engineer made this car, But i think they got him or her from flunky in 6 th grade drop out.....
