Opening the Oil Filler Cap and taking out the Dip Stick would be good to release any pressure inside the engine to give it a nice quick and better drainage. You should also use a Torque Wrench to tighten the sump plug. If replacing the old sump plug, make sure to clean it incase it has a magnetic end to catch deposits. You should also fill up the oil filter to the top with clean oil before fitting.
Yeah.... You need to use torque wrench for all the bolts in the world... How would a mechanic make a profit searching for torque settings for every nut and bolt on the car? It would take ages to do a simple job.

Josh Briggs is right. Also, you have to remove the oil cap from the top of the engine, so that the oil can drain much better and faster from the oil pan.
No need to pre fill oil filter. The engine still has oil on the parts. The pressure is so fast the engine receives oil instantly. Many vehicles including very expensive vehicles have cartridge filters and they are not ore filled.
