How to do a 3 hole fluid change on a 2009 Harley Davidson Dyna Fat Bob! Should be the same for all 96 cubic inch Dyna models.
I am neither a mechanic, gear head, or a teacher. Just wanted to show people on a budget how easy it is to DIY your fluid changes!

Thanks bro. I just got my first bike ever. 2010 Fatbob. I know nothing about bikes but this video has helped me big time. Appreciate the time you took to help Noobs like me

Glad it helped! That was one of my early videos and I honestly think it was horribly produced... But I guess it still does the job it was meant to do! Enjoy your new ride!

I truly appreciate your video and you really explained it well. Only one thing I would add to your technique, use some kind of oil catch under the filter removal, that way you avoid a future motor mount replacement. That oil will destroy your motor mount rubber.
@Skunk72

Thank you for the kind words! I have started making a little runoff ramp out of cardboard to catch the oil from the filter. I would like to redo this video eventually. It was one of my first and my filming and production skills have greatly improved.

leave top bolt in derby cover take the other ones out then the cover won't fall in the oil take the top one out last

Something you might try the next time you change your oil that I use when I change mine. Tear off a piece of your wife's aluminum foil, fold it in half and bend it into enough of a horseshoe that it fits between your frame and engine underneath the oil filter. Put your oil pan underneath the end of the foil and when you take off your oil filter, the oil from the filter flows down the little shute you made with your aluminum foil into your drain pan and no muss - no fuss.

Gear specific fluid helps rather than some of that 1 type for all oil. Nothing wrong with Amsoil.

The gear specific oil makes a noticable difference in how smooth the transmission is.
@rondavis9918

does it? I was going to use same oil for all three, but you notice a difference with the gear oil?
@Skunk72
@Skunk72 6 лет назад
@ron Davis... It really does make a noticable difference in the tranny. You aren't going to hurt anything by putting the same oil in all three... You just won't get the benefits of using the specific oil.

You should invest in a form-a-funnel. Flexible draining tool that you can stick under your oil filter to catch that oil and funnel it away from your bike. 22 bucks on amazon totally worth it. I use them all the time at work.

I didnt have the cam covers off for the oil change.. Im not sure what I mentioned there. I have had my cam covers off when I installed new cams (I may have mentioned something about that in the video). Those are the original heads, I just polished them up with a product called Wenol.

@@Skunk72 I know in my Harley I could hear the difference right away. When I bought my bike the dealership said we just changed the oil. So I said ok. A month later I checked my dipstick and noticed I was a half quart down and the oil was extremely black. I went ahead and changed my oil the next day. The valves were very quite.

I actually buy the oil filters with the hex nut on the end for easy removal which unfortunately didn't work the day I filmed this lol. Those are made by K&N. The wrench that I used when the hex failed on this one was an adjustable metal band type of tool.
