In this video we got a 2018 Honda Accord with 1.5L Turbo. That loses coolant on daily basis and occasionally over heats when coolant gets too low. The car runs and drives perfectly fine but sometimes it won’t start after it cools off from a long trip. I will show you step by step how to replace the head gasket on that car. Make sure to watch part 1 and part 2 of the video

I commend you for an excellent job, you're teaching us all a valuable lesson in a world of the unknown and making it easier. Honda has to step it up and repair this problem that costing there loyal customers thousands, I just sold a 2013 CRV that was perfect and now i have a 2020 CRV and I'm afeard if i will have a catastrophic failure that will cost me this repair or an engine. Painful!!! We have to make a kit to correct this problems, better head bolts modification, getting rid of the notch in the middle of the cylinder sleeves, copper or steel head gasket. Not patch and wait for this to happen again. Grant it maintenance is a large factor of making your vehicle regardless of brand last. By the look of the oil he or she did not care. Thank you for your video.

Nice Video. A few points. Several mentions of the wrong head bolt torque. That’s a serious mistake if true. Might need an update? For the RTV sealer. Not used to glue these engines. “The Right Stuff” is superior and closer to the original. The chain housing does not have any dowels aligning it to the engine. It might be useful to temporarily install the crank balancer pulley before snugging any of the bolts so the seal will run true.

Great information! My son's 2018 Accord 1.5 apparently has a blown head gasket. There was a misfire code on cylinder head #1. Could there be more be more potential for further damage? His car is not leaking, but does have the occasional sputtering that you mentioned. We would definitely come out to see you, but we're in CA. Thank you for any information.

2018 Honda Accord EX-L 1.5 73,300 miles. Just came back from the dealer. Started with christmas tree lights (every warning light) going off in the car. Thought it was a bad battery, bought a battery wasn't that. Misfire on cylinder 3. Blown head gasket with a possible leak or deformed engine. They recommend buying a new engine at a cost of around $10,000.00. Went down an internet rabbit hole and it seems that the problem is quite major with thousands of posts all over the internet. The problem is believed to be making the engine more emissions-friendly to deal with government ratings; what they didn't foresee was the gaskets couldn't take the pressure. I contacted Honda GoodWill and seeing what they say, I'm not holding my breath. I've owned 1998 Honda Civic, 2009 Honda Civic, 2013 Honda Accord, 2016 Honda Accord, and 2018 Honda Accord...it's looking like this will be my families FINAL Honda.

Problem here stems from the head bolts themselves being too weak stretching and letting the heads lift under pressure. Only way to prevent it from happening again on the market is to upgrade to ARP headstuds.

Best bet is putting in arp headstuds. Doesn’t matter how many times you do this job chance of head lift causing head gasket leak is common. So buy aftermarket headstuds to prevent yourself from doing this again.

1.The crank has a key guide for pulley. It must face up(12 o' clock) and a timing mark below facing 6 o' clock together with an arrow marked below inside the engine face. Though u cannot see the timing mark from crank because timing chain in the way. 2.The camshafts have a hole each facing up. 3.Cam sprockets both have timing marks also(straight lines) that must face each other. Left cam at 3 o' clock while the other at 9 o' clock. He showed this in the part 1 video.

5 or 0W30 viscosity premium oil ( avoid 0w20 ), Oil spec API SP ,synthetic oil , change every 5K miles , only premium RON 95 gasoline or higher , use honda type 2 coolant ( blue ), don’t lug the engine turbo!!, and pray you won’t have a blown head gasket failure!
