This is not a dumb process. It it designed so that you have to bring it to the dealership. They don't want you do this at home. That's how they make money, very smart engineering.
@@kennyg9149 engineering something to make a dealer money is in fact dumb from a engineering perspective. If you fail to understand/appreciate that you must be someone who doesn’t work on his own vehicle. I am a person who can handle anything a dealer can so it’s whatever to me. But stating this is brilliant engineering wise is just a short sighted ignoring view. Stealerships ripping people off isn’t brilliant nor appreciated. But the Infinity in this video is a total hunk of shit car in general. Terrible example of Japanese engineering
@@kennyg9149It's a dumb process because they're assuring that customers who appreciated Infiniti in the past and work on their cars won't come back to purchase another Infiniti.
At least it's not like some of these newer cars where you need to use a scan tool just to do a drain and fill, but still annoying that they don't give you a fill plug at the top of the trans or a dipstick.
Hey brotha thanks for vid ,I had a question if my cooler lines are leaking am I able to change them without having to take out trans also that the only thing I could think of that would be leaking ive replace the heater hose coupler a couple months back tova aluminum one that's not leaking so I was thinking it has to be those cooler lines ,it's leaking from the passenger side area so that's why I thought it was the coupler hose but it wasn't.also is it a long & expensive job to do . I was thinking of doing it myself. Thanks brotha appreciate any info u may have ..I got 09 g37x
Wasn’t that a lot Of transmission fluid in there initially? I thought your supposed to let it drain till it bubbles but your fill plug kept dripping for two minutes in the beginning of the video.
This is very insightful and I appreciate you documenting it. I'm looking at buying a 2012 and was curious what type of work went into doing this. No dipstick is a huge bummer. I was curious though why so much fluid came from the fill plug. As far as I was aware hardly any if anything should come out of that plug, or is that normal?
Question: It looks like you had just changed the pan as well (Still showing the very clean part number sticker on the pan). Was this a double flush you were doing you mentioned the fluid was quite dirty, how can that be as I assume the fluid was changed when the pan was replaced. I'm asking because you mentions some shifting issues. Was that before or after the pan changed. Thanks for the great vid. Very helpful.
Hey Marc, you are correct this video was recording the 2 time I changed the transmission fluid. Originally (2 months prior to this video) I drained the fluid , dropped the pan and replaced it . I only did this because Infiniti refused to change the transmission fluid saying the pan was sooo rusty the bolt might not go back on and seal. They wanted $1100 to change the pan and fluid. I thought that was way to expensive and bought the pan and seal from them for about $120 fluid was maybe $70-$80 and changed it. Even after doing it once before you can see the fluid is still pretty dark considering there is about 12-13 liters in there. When you drain it not all of it comes out. I personally do not suggest “flushes” which push all the fluid out as I had a transmission fail on me after it.
There’s a plug in the front/top of the transmission where the fluid drops straight into the pan so you won’t need to force it into the drain plug with a special tool. I used a garden sprayer with the attachment removed and pumped it down the hole into the pan.
I have a 2015 infiniti q40 .. I can't find the filter or gasket for it.. can anyone point me in the right direction.. I need to do this but can't find the parts!
My understanding is that when you loosen the drain bolt, the overflow is supposed to be a minimal flow - yours was off the charts, confusing. Anyone else agree?
The fill hole overflow would have been much less of his level was correct and vehicle running and the transmission fluid is up to operating temperature
@@christophermcsherry2655 According to the service manual, you put 3 liters in, drain, then fill it up again with 3 liters, then drain. Final step is to add 3 liters and make sure temp is 104 degrees F. As soon as it hits that temp, you crack open the overflow plug and let it come out until a trickle. With this type of design, temperature is everything. Too hot or to cold can affect level. Make sure vehicle is level. If it doesn't drip out or pour out, then you probably got to add more.
If you can do it youll be fine. but always if your doing more complicated work the chances youll run into problems increase. I would recommend getting a new gasket for the pan if you are too drop it.
Good video clear and direct. There is no dipstick at the upper left rear of the engine on the G37? I know the G35 has one and would be an odd change with the engines being the same.
@@lewokejames My understanding is they both have the VQ or HR V6 engine which has a varying displacement of 2.0 - 4.0. Different transmissions explains why one has a dip stick and the other doesn't.
Best place to get the fluid is at a Nissan dealership, the pump came be found at any automotive shop, I got mine at Canadian tire for like 15 bucks. I highly recommend a transfer pump, it’s about the same price but less messy , here’s one on Amazon www.amazon.ca/dp/B0181EDCZ6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_0A8K561QN1N62CES2PEP?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Hey man, so did this help with the clunking or skipping of gears? Having the same problem especially in colder weather however I saw in the manual book that the ATF is "maintenance free" and I am wondering if I should even bother . So simple question - did it help? Thanks
Made shifts smoother for sure. It stopped my skip shift feeling from 2-3 gear. It may help in your case but without knowing what’s going on inside the transmission nothing is certain.
@@tazsfixes8368 our 2012 g37 rwd does take a tad longer to manual shift from 2-3 it's got 84k on it wanna do the fluid flush asap. how do we know we won't over fill the fluid?
As you mentioned there is no dipstick so As shown in the video you have to open the drain bolt (once up to temp) and watch the fluid drain . Once it starts to bubble close the bolt and your now at the correct level. This is really dumb process on Infiniti, putting a dipstick would be sooo much simpler and easy.
It’s hard to see on video but you notice bubbles coming out the end of the hole when you are doing your final drain to ensure you are at the correct level. This extremely annoying method is unfortunately very common even on high end cars. I hope we can go back to dip stick in the near future to take the guessing game out of it
Great vid!! I have the exact same car! I just hit 90k and not sure if the previous owners have done this. I’ll also need to clean out the throttle bodies 👌
Good idea to get it done once at least so you know what your working with, just a heads up, don’t plug that throttle bodies when cleaning, if you do you will have to reprogram the position sensor
If you unplug them you just have to go through a electronic throttle body relearning . I’m sure you can find the process online. If possible I would leave them plugged in and do a cleaning to avoid that process
@@icesalami unless there is something wrong you wouldn’t notice a difference . If they are working as intended you shouldn’t experience any improvement
Got a ? , recently my 09 37x stalled on me wen it hit 40 mph I noticed it then started to pull car over to side as I did I noticed it started smoking .do u think it's a hose line that busted or what be ur opinion do u think the fluid was leaking on to something hot to cause it to smoke like that also I stared it real fast to check if it moves it still goes forward & backwards did it real quick to get an ideal where it stands. Did drive it didn't want to risk it cause I know it lost some tyranny fluid.. any info is much appreciated it thanks brotha..
Somebody please help me out, I recently bought a g37xS with 157k miles with no known history of fluid changes, other than engine oil. So can somebody tell me if it’s necessary to do a ATF change on my car? It’s a 7 spd and I’ve seen way too many people saying you shouldn’t do this for some reason
@@twomusketeers8867well since I own it I been having a little too much fun with it, awd so can’t drift it but I definitely have floored it couple of times
I just purchased a 2010 g37 sedan with 113,000 ,it runs perfect and transmission shifts perfect, Its been mentioned that if the tranny service has not been done that there is a possibility that the tranny may slip if I do the service, what do you suggest?
this is another great debate car guys have. If your fluid is too far gone it’s actually got friction material helping your transmission shift. It should never really get to that point but if regular maintenance is avoided and your kind of cornered. No one can say with certainty what the state of your clutch plates are without looking at them as it depends on many variables. I think 113k you should still be good to do a drain. This will introduce some new fluid helping cool and lubricate the transmission but this thing has like 14liters in total so it will dilute with the old.
@@alucrd6130 yeah I have a similar question if someone can help. My 2011 g37x has about 145k and I don’t know if the previous owners ever changed the trans fluid. Should I change it or leave it ?
Same here, 135k miles. What am going to do is am draining one quart every week or so till am able to see some good color coming out, that way you minimize the risk of loosing all the metals if there’s any, and at the same time putting fresh lubricant into the transmission
A guy at a auto shop is trying to charge me $500 for this to be done is that a fair price? If not how much is fair for a transmission flush and replacement?
My 08 g37s has 70k miles on it and after I drive it around a little bit (get out and start it back up etc) I notice it idles higher and then as it downshifts (automatic trans) it feels jerky when coming down to complete stop. Thoughts? No codes for it
I got the same qus I got G25X 2011 has 78k miles since last week when it comes to downshift car jerk lil n it’s mad annoying If you know what’s goin on please lmk
This is a pretty common issue , I believe Infiniti issued some service notices to reprogram the transmission to be less jerky. You can check out the forums but will find it’s a bit of a hit and miss. Regardless fluid change can’t hurt, 70-80k is probably a good time to change.
Hmmm, guys make sure U drain Ur tranni fluid dont ever let anybody convice Ur self to flush it, also do it in a leveled area make sure U check ur temps cycle thru gears dont ever drive it untill dome so ok best of luck make sure U also chek Ur gasket & put some gasket maker on the new gasket if needed
@@oskarkarrera my trans fluid was done, at 65k, I had the car since it was 50k miles and noticed it at around 55, did spark plugs, cleaned maf, replaced filters, cleaned and reprogrammed throttle body, fresh oil. Still does it after a lot of stop in go, gonna install a stillen grounding kit and see if that helps.
I’m an Infiniti tech and I do not recommend changing your transfer case fluid. Seen lots of transfer cases go out randomly after changing the fluid. You can top it off, but don’t drain and fill…
BTW, why is your engine running while filling the fluid? You'll never get accurate measurement. Fill it completely, then start the car. Run it through all gears.
Your a clown 😂 🤡 they include enough oil to drop the pain or drain the pan TWICE. Only 40% of the oil come out when you drain the pan… the remaining 60% is in the torque converter, oil cooler/radiator, cooler lines, and residual. So your intended to use the 10 qts twice, in a primary change of 40% and a secondary change after a few hours driven. The new ATF mixes with the old and you drain again and replace with the remaining 5 qts. You then heat the trans to operating temp, and cycle the shifter, verify if more oil is needed, or allow to drain until at proper level as seen in this video. If you seriously put 10 qts in your car 12 days ago then I’m sure your trans has already is about to blow up 🤡
