I have to say even after a 4 yrs old video yours by far has been the most informative to me. I’m about to change my Q50’s ATF, the service manual recommends the flush 3 times system. But I believe removing the pan and cleaning it up like you did is better. After some time has passed from your making of the video do you still stand by your method (which I love) or recommend the dealers or anything else you might help me with. I already changed to front and rear diff. and will now do the transmission and transfer case with Matic-S. Again, any additional info for me? Thanks in advance and for your vid. Ben, in Miami

Nice video, however I would forget the Nissan ATF. Fill it with Valvoline FULL SYNTHETIC MaxLife ATF. Much better fluid and fully compatible.

Any ATF Fluid to put on the gasket before reinstalling?
@bappa8656
@bappa8656 3 года назад
appears to be low on fluid- the next step would be to add more fluid then when transmission is up to temp remove fill plug and let it pour out until it starts to gurgle. That would insure that it is at the full level. Maybe it was run low ( because of the past leak ) and thats why the fluid looked slightly burned

Thanks for the guide, But as per the official service manual, you need to fill 3 1/8qt of ATF. Drain - fill 3qt, run engine, drain-fill 3qt, run engine, drain, tight drain to specified tq and fill 3 1/8 qu, tight fill plug. And you could use another magnet with aluminum pan, to see the debris left, when you drain to plastic.

does the engine have to be running when you remove the transfer pump from the fill hole? i would think that it's okay to turn the engine off as long as you've already run through the gears and brought the transmission fluid to the right temperature.
@precision_eg
@precision_eg 3 года назад
Always install the fill hole plug before turning the engine off. Remember, there will always be fluid in the pan.

Those pumps are available at many auto parts and hardware stores, as well as on the Internet. Just search for hand fluid transfer pump or ask your local parts store for help.
@goud2488
@goud2488 3 года назад
the "filter" isn't really serviceable b/c it's a metal mesh screen that bolts into the actual trans assembly so it's not a filter and a pain to even remove. One would only remove that screen if the meshing was torn or damaged, which would be a BIG debris. Instead you on G35's manufacturer recommends you should do a ~4qt ATF fluid "partial" change every couple oil changes or so until you circulate about 90% clean ATF. The total AT fluid capacity is about 12 qts i.e. doing a 4 qt change routinely instead of having a traditional "filter" or doing a complete "flush" of all 12 qts at once.
@justhere4721
@justhere4721 2 года назад
Filter is serviceable. You can buy em online or at a local auto parts store. Remove filter bolts ,replace filter and bolt back up. FSM also states you can flush the trans fluid through the cooler lines with the car running.
@ephraimkaravan
@ephraimkaravan 2 года назад
@@justhere4721 Which cooler lines are you talking about? Do you mean the two skinny hoses that are clamped onto the back of the radiator? If so, which one should I hook up the transfer pump to (as far as I'm concerned, one hose directs fluid into the radiator and the other out)?

So does that mean the rest of the old fluid is still in the torque converter and stuff? How can you replace that or just keep changing fluid ?
@aliwooz913
@aliwooz913 Год назад
so to get that out basically keep repeating the process a few times to ensure all the old fluid is out.
@johanzain6133

what are your thoughts on reusing the existing pan gasket?
@precision_eg
@precision_eg 3 года назад
I have known people to reuse the gasket with a little sealant but, is it really worth it? Plus I prefer to keep things as close to original as possible. That's a pretty expensive transmission to be cutting corners with.

My G37 was in a hit and run incident recently, which left me with a slightly bent and cracked radiator (my bumper wasn't on because I gave it to a friend to paint for me). I decided not to file an insurance claim, so I pulled off my radiator at the spot and slowly drove home (I would say about 600 ft. from my house). When I came home, I then realized how stupid my decision to pull the radiator was judging by the long trail of coolant and transmission fluid my car left behind. So my question is this: Since I drained my transmission fluid in such a questionable way, I can't help but wonder if I will have any problems filling the drain pan with new fluid once I get my new radiator on
@precision_eg
@precision_eg Год назад
Sorry for the late reply. You shouldn't have had any problems with the refill. However, when it comes to the cooling of the engine, I will suggest that if ever you have to drive a long distance without coolant, drive a little, then give the engine time to cool keep repeating that. This strategy saved me on the highway.

I wouldn't pump dirty transmission fluid back through your pump...just use a funnel to fill the bottles if you need to. Now, you need to clean your pump before your next transmission fill.
