It was time for an oil change on my 2005 Harley Davidson Road King so I figured I'd make a how to video in case anyone was interested.
Pretty basic stuff here, but sometimes its nice to have a refrence to look at when/if your new to motorcycles or not used of diy projects.
I like to do my own maitenence and repairs when possible in order to save some money and I really find it enjoyable.
so here is the video I hope you find it useful please leave comments or questions in the comments section and if you haven't yet please subscribe to our youtube channel.

Nicely done. I am facing my first fluid change on my '05 FLHRI (purchased used). Everyone says look at the service manual for the oil plug location, I don't see it there but you showed it well.

Nice video, thanks. Regarding the metal shavings (which can be normal), this engine has a historical issue with failing cam chain tensioners which can produce metal shavings if not inspected for replacement. Google "twin cam 88 cam chain tensioner" and you'll see that many people think this should have been a factory recall issue, but wasn't. Good luck.
@Touringmidwest
@Touringmidwest 6 лет назад
Yes sir, totally aware of that. O actually traded that bike off in 2015 for my Road Glide Ultra so no worries.
@Backyardrestomods

The small shavings on the drain plug is clutch plate fibers it's normal

I appreciate your video I have a 2004 Road King classic. Did you mention how much oil you put in, in total? I didn't hear that part. Also, how high is the oil on the dipstick? I know that its very important to not over fill. Also, do you have video's on changing the other oils and how much to use? Thank you
@Touringmidwest
@Touringmidwest 5 лет назад
I cannot recall if I mentioned it or not.. probably not I always recommended referring to the owners manual for your specific model and year motorcycle. I do have videos for engine, transmission and primary oil changes on my Road Glide as well.. they would be a very similar process for all Harley Touring models and years. ru-vid.com/group/PLhk3c-U3jks7xvpEwgSlVL0x7xA3ClVmk

I noticed your back tire.... Avon? I am using Avon back tires now. 85 bucks a piece in north east Ohio. How much are they there?
@Touringmidwest
@Touringmidwest 7 лет назад
+Donald Moore man, I'm thinking those were Michelin on that bike. It's been awhile though. I prefer Dunlop. I'm not sure what Avons cost around here, I can find it though.

Some people pour a few oz. of oil into the filter before installing it.
@Touringmidwest
@Touringmidwest 6 лет назад
No need for that, Just a little around the gasket.

The notch in the oil filter tool is to provide clearance for the timing position sensor. The filter can only be turned about one flat on the tool, and needs to be re-positioned each flat. I wonder how many sensors are torn up by using this tool incorrectly as shown in this video.
@hdtech73
@hdtech73 6 лет назад
The cutout on the tool is for the CKP sensor, but there is no need to turn it reposition, turn it, reposition etc. There is plenty of room for the tool if you are being half ways intentive. The bikes with oil cooler adapters have less room to deal with but with patience, you will be successful without damaging anything
