I never change the spark plug unless it needs it. My old one didn't brake down because of it. Oil change and proper gas with stabilizer or sea foam keep the engine going. Don't even use last season gas.

100% I have the deluxe 24. Very little Information on oil capacity.

@@sandyleventen6854 I had to spend a couple days putting in some oil, giving it an hour to finish dripping down the tube so I could get a reading with the dipstick, then adding some more.

They aren’t ariens brand engines, they’re Briggs and Stratton engines. You can find the manual on their websites. As for why Ariens doesn’t just incorporate that information into their own manuals… beats me. Seems like that would be pretty easy for them to do.

Couldn’t agree, more it’s like, searching for buried treasure. There are three manuals for my platinum 30 do you think any of them tell you how much oil it takes! It says, check the engine manual. where the hell is the engine manual. They obviously want you taking your snowblower to the dealer to get fuel changed, which is absolutely retarded.

Yes. No force on the planet can keep the entire drain tube from turning out...resulting in a big shitty mess every year! Have to drag it into the woods to change oil.

Same issue...finally found a solution online that worked. Use a pipe wrench to hold the tube (hold with pressure to the right) and an open ended box wrench to loosen the nut (www.flickr.com/photos/185534474@N08/shares/5E67ND). It's the only solution that will keep the tube from turning.

I had the same problem. I had to remove the tube assembly from the engine block and then take it into my shop and clamp it in my vice. I then had to use a box end wrench to wedge the tube assembly against my work bench to keep it from turning while I used a 24 inch long breaker bar with a 6 point socket to break the drain plug cap loose from the tube. This is definitely an Ariens Quality Control issue. It is important not to over tighten the tube piece when installing it back into the engine block so as not to crack the engine block. I used Teflon tape an both the tube end going into the engine and on the threaded end for the drain cap. Ariens - pay attention!

Try penetrating oil. Its probably corrosion.

Had a hell of a time getting the cap off. It took a LOT of torque. In the end, one person braced the tube using a 13mm open-ended wrench (pressure applied clockwise). This prevents the tube from rotating. Meanwhile the 2nd person used a 17mm open-ended wrench, turning counterclockwise, to loosen the cap. A ⅝ inch box wrench would work too. I have a Deluxe SHO 28 and the wrench sizes recommended in the engine manual didn't fit.

There is only place can add oil. Does the cap has a dipstick? I have a 922020 snowblower. Changed oil and found there is no stick. Does your oil cap have a stick? Thank you

Try an oil extractor

I recommend Moble1 fully synthetic 5w-30.. perfect for this cold winters.. 10w-30 is way to thick for these blowers..

Thanks for asking. You could try placing something disposable, like a paper plate, under the drain tube to direct the oil flow farther away from your unit. First loosen the plug, place that item under the tube, and then remove the plug so the oil drains.

Thanks for asking, David. You could try supporting the axle with a wood block or similar tool and removing the wheel to get the clearance. Or, try placing a folded piece of cardboard / paper plate / etc. below the oil drain and folding it in a fashion that reroutes the draining oil.

Apparently, Ariens fills their new engines with break-in oil. It needs to be changed after the first five hours of use. Thats what my dealer told me.

All Ariens two-stage Sno-Thro models are filled with oil at our Brillion, Wisconsin plant, but we still suggest that customers verify the oil level every time before starting their units. Be aware that some of our single-stage models don't come with oil in the engine, but in those cases, an oil bottle is supplied with the crate the unit was shipped in.

@@richw1907 We have an answer for you, Rich. Like many of our Sno-Thro engines, this is simply a second oil fill location and dipstick. It functions the same way as the yellow-capped dipstick on the top of the engine.

That's correct! Just drain the oil, reinstall the drain plug and refill with the correct grade and quantity of new oil. It's super easy!

I always do mine in the spring, as soon as I'm reasonably confident the winter's significant snows are finished. That way my engine has nice fresh oil, and doesn't sit with the past winter's dirty/sludgy oil in it for six months.
