Brake fluid (oil) is a funny thing. It could be good after 10 years and it could be bad after one year. That's why they check it when you do an MOT.

+halcojordan Probably too soon to bother with changing the fluid. I think Porsche recommend at about 80 to 100,000 miles off the top of my head, especially if it's not tracked. By all means if you want to change it go ahead but the fluid is quite expensive, I think about £20 a litre bottle and you need 4. For me, if you're changing the fluid you might as well change the filter and gasket as they are cheap and you'll probably only want to change the fluid once. Tiny bit of metal on the magnets but nothing of note. I have an automatic so didn't notice any difference after.

HI Bruno. Thanks for saying so! Overfilling can damage the transmission so simply fill until it drains out. If in doubt pick up the excellent Boxster manual from Bentley. CMDR Apollo There are a number of videos on dong that. I did it for the first time just two days ago. It wasn’t too difficult but you have to be careful. Watch more than one video as they don’t seem to all cover the same points. Good luck.

+Jordi Fernandez Hi Jordi. Thanks for following for so long! I don't have the manual to hand but if I remember correctly 4 litres is for a fluid change. The transmission holds 9 litres but you can only flush 4 litres at a time.

Reason is Torque Converter doesn't drain when plug removed. Special procedure / equip. to flush that fluid.

+Jasson Aldana (Life in Perspective) Thanks Jasson! Not had the D light myself but I had a quick search on the forums. It does mean there is some kind of fault. If you have access to the Durametric tester then you'll be able to check the fault code. If not then it's probably the fluid and filter. Change those and go from there. You gonna do it yourself?

Road and Race oh ok. I get like a surge / buck feeling in 3rd / 4th at around 4/5k rpm when driving fast I'm trying to work out what it is??

+Miles James Hmmm. Not had that problem myself so would be guessing. Maybe try cleaning the MAF and throttle body? Or changing the spark plugs if they've not been done in 4 years? Has the air filter been changed? Saying that there will naturally be a surge in acceleration at 4K from the engine. Can you describe the problem in greater detail?

In theory yes but to be fair the rear sway bar is so easy to loosen (just 4 nuts) that you might as well do that so save yourself a bit of hassle! My How To guide for sway bar bushes shows you how.

Always change the filter with fresh fluid. It's an inexpensive ($25) part & same reason change filter with all oil changes. vs. thousands for new trans.

@@hazeldowns1553 Brother I am so sorry I did not get back to you sooner. I didn't even get a notice that you had replied to me. You want to use ATF1 Automatic Transmission Fluid only in this trans. I suggest getting the brand Pentosin.

+BJK1715 Apologies. The video was never actually supposed to be released. It was the pilot episode I did to test how to do a video. I only put it out as a number of people had requested it. The magnets were pretty clean which was good. I didn't notice any difference after the change but it is an auto.

Thanks for the reply. I asked about 'before and after function' because Wheeler Dealers featured a Boxster S a couple of years ago I think (catch it on reruns) and Ed China 'fixed' auto tranny with fluid/filter change if I recall correctly.
