Thank you so much Alec, my DC 05 model is slightly different, I couldn't remove the wheels, but with my dear friends perseverance and patience, I managed to get inside and repair the broken cord. Dyson in 2017 stopped assistance for DC05. Thank you again!
Thanks for the video. Fitting that cover back over the motor ass'y and cord reel is truly a pain. I wish I had just settled for replacing the plug I suspected was bad instead of insisting on testing continuity from the plug to the motor leads first. It would have spared me the entire dis/assembly process. But the process was made possible by your video, so thanks again!
Hi again. Found the route into the reel after removing the release catch, fiddled out the wire, shortened it and soldered the spades back on and away we go! A bit of a fiddle getting the wire just the right length to fit it back in! Keep going with the videos they are really helpful. Cheers
Hi David, I am so glad you got a solution. I will be making more videos soon, I have temporarily stopped because of shoulder surgery but should be able to shoot some in the coming week.
Thanks for showing me how to get the wheels off. It's easier if you first remove the yellow plug in the centre of each wheel. Use a screw like corkscrew to get it out. Even then, it takes a huge amount of force to snap the wheels off.
Hi Alec, have you done any video's on actually repairing the cable in a DC05 cable retract as opposed to just replacing the unit? I'd love to know how the cable retract unit comes apart?
Hi Alec Thank you, with your excellent instructions I was able to remove, clean and refit my 10 year old DC 08. It is now functioning like the day I bought it. I have another Dyson the upright model 24 with the ball movement. If you have made a video about it will be grateful if you could publish that for us please. Thank you, Dukhinda, UK
Hi Peter, I have been successful a couple of times in re-threading cord onto the spool and attaching it to the terminals, HOWEVER it was not worth it in the end to continue trying as it was always a half hour job and I didn't feel like it was going to be 100% reliable in the long term. I think it is a 7m cord but I never repair these anymore, I always just replace the retract.
Very useful video - thanks. My problem (or rather my wife's, I'm ashamed to admit) is that the cord retracts steadily as she is hoovering and she has to keep pulling hard on the Dyson to pull the cord back out again, which ends up giving her a sore back. Is there any way to fix the brake, or do I need to replace the whole unit?
Hi. Any idea how the cord reel comes to bits? Mine is all in working order but I think the neutral wire is broken where it comes out of the drum so I want to pull a foot of wire through to get rid of the bad bit but the drum won't easily come apart. any thoughts?
Hi there, Did I see right, the filter at the bottom isn't the hepa one you're showing in the other video to the dc05? I've got this model with the yellow colours, I haven't replaced the filter yet and would be interested in what I will have to get for it. Would a hepa work? Thank you.
Hi David, Unfortunately you are out of luck. The Dyson cord reel really isn't meant o be repaired only replaced as a complete unit. I have tried to repair a few over the years but it's never the best repair. Sorry :(
