www.vacuumspot.... A great place to buy parts online Start to finish guide showing how to dismantle and reassemble a Dyson DC08. The motor used in this video is part number MO48 www.vacuumspot.... Follow me on Twitter @VacuumGuru
Alec, follow your instructions. I bought a new motor and a set of filters for $ 70. And our 16 years old DC 08 vacuum cleaner has taken a new life. Thank you for detailed instructions.
dear friend, I'm writing you from Italy where dyson isn't so popular (I had to buy spare motor directly from England): your video has really been so helpful! I usually do small works at home when family sleep so now, quite 1.00 a.m., having a guide as you everything has been easier and I'll go to bed earlier! thanks again, best regards, Sebastiano.
Fantastic guide! Very clear and enabled me to change the motor of my 10 year old DC08 for just £39 vs £79 for Dyson to do it! Cord retract video helped too as became out of alignment during the process. Good as new. Cheers
Thank you so much for the great video. My heart sank when my motor burnt out on my Dyson and as I now live in a country where Dysons aren't readily available it was great to be shown how easy and quick it was to change the motor. Ordered the part from England, followed your great video and now my Dyson has a new lease of life. Thanks again, your a legend
Superb video. Had been about to discard Dyson vac cleaner as motor had worn out, and couldn't see how to access it. Took 30 mins max and saved us about £300.
vic I used to train teachers and demonstrations was a session on the course (UK C & G 7307 Further and Adult Teachers Cert [TAFE] IN OZ). I also used to teach Electrical engineering which involved many demonstrations. I was most impressed by your video, clear explanations, visual points easily identified and a smooth, informative commentary. WELL DONE!!! 10 out of 10! Excellent!
Brilliantly explained I have just replaced a new motor in my old DC08 I was worried as to how I would do the refit but following the instructions instructions it was easy.Thank you so much.
Thank you very much for this very clear tutorial which was a great help to install a new motor in my old dyson. I hope he will give me many more years of good and loyal service. Thanks again for your very useful sharing.
A really clear and instructive guide. One of the motor brushes was faulty so managed to cobble one together from and old set. Now up and running again. Thanks
Nice one Alec, I had started to look at replacing the motor but couldn't figure how the cleaner came apart. Your video saved me the cost of sending it in (£50+ quote). I managed the whole job for the cost of the new motor - £27! Thanks a million and pop in for a drink sometime!
Great videos, thanks mate. Shame on Dyson for not selling the brushes on their own but thanks to you, ebay and a soldering iron I saved a bundle and did my bit to save the earth. I owe you a beer or two.
One of the best maintenance videos I've seen on youtube. Just picked up a DC19 at auction not knowing if it worked. Fortunately it made a noise when I powered it up. Just in the process of stripping it back to the bare bones to give it a good clean so your video was brilliant for me.
Thank you Alec! You are a God's send! The motor on my DC 08 just died on me today and Dyson no longer repairs them nor have the parts. I will be able to get parts from on the websites. Wish me luck!
Hi Alec, thanks for posting this mate. Very easy to follow and well presented. I've just pulled apart mine and my fathers Dyson's to check the motors as both have stopped working with the usual funky burning smell. Have also just placed an order for two new motors with your online store. You deserve every penny you make on the parts after producing such a good video. (I'll follow the cleaning advice also on your other video which outlines how to strip and clean the barrel cyclone chambers) Many thanks mate, I owe you a beer, Cheers,
Really useful video, well-paced and informative. Especially liked the tips e.g. for putting the pieces back together successfully. I also take pics at key stages, which helps me if I am re-assembling a little while later. Nice one!
Great video, easy to follow and a 19 year old dyson DC08 works as new again. Including time to get the proper screwdrivers, cleaning parts and some pausing, rewinding and replaying during the motor refit i managed do to it in less than an hour.
SSo being the handy type and always looking to save money, I thought I would google and see what I could find. YOU ARE AWESOME. I knew the motor had blown up, but couldn't figure how to get to it to check. Followed your video and it was so easy. I was able to work out what motor I had and ordered it from your site delivery was quick and I have just finished putting it back together and like magic, My Dyson is back. Thanks so much.
Fantastic! Great job in explaining the procedure. Got a motor from Amazon and changed the thing in a jiffy, thanks to this cool video. Kudos to the engineers at DYSON and to you!
Excellent guide, thanks! I just followed it to access the motor in my DC08, which had suddenly refused to power on. Found that the motor's winding wire had broken at the terminal attachment. Soldered in a short length of wire to bridge the gap and it's working like new again!
my oh my......thank you a hundred times and more, it was so easy in the end, i have never done anything like this before. My new motor and filters arrived this morning at 1100 and by 1130 i was vacuuming with my fab animal DC08 (its 18 years old!!!) and its working like the day it came off the factory assembly line, and just as clean as it was a great excuse to clean every part including the brushes. Ladies you can do this, if i can, you can- One very happy bunny and all for 20 quid.
Thanks so much for all your videos on the dc08. Our body was falling to bits, was becoming brittle. I acquired one that the motor was on the way out. So with the help from your videos we have a yellow and purple bitsa. Cheers
Excellent video Alec. Inspired me to buy a new motor and filter set and have a go! Now have a DC08 as good as new for £26 worth of parts and 20 minutes of my time!! Thanks mate, almost threw this thing away!!!
Brilliant, thank you so much for this video - I have just replaced my DC 08 motor and cleaned the rest, and my old machine is working like new for a fraction of the cost of replacement. Your instructions are excellent, well done. Much appreciated. This kind of thing is so empowering (if you'll pardon the word), especially for an older lass like me!
Ok so it is possible to fit it but it is very hard. I have done it a couple of times as an experiment. Basically it goes in the same but is 100 times harder to get the casing to close. The proper way to change them over is to get a YDK motor bucket and a new fan case seal and motor support or locator. There are some versions (overseas) that I have not seen the locator (rubber bit on top) that may not simply allow it to be squashed in.
Thanks for uploading this vid mate. A new vac is the wrong side of £300 but with a new motor from a well known auction site and your vid we have a working vac for £20. All the best!!
You sir, is a bloody legend!! With your info/video i was able to buy a new YDK motor and install on my other halfs DC29. If this one lasts 7 years like the first one then super awesome!! Hi from Australia.
Thanks Alec, I couldn't work out how to get into my DC20. Found the two screws at the top and knew there were another four somewhere from an online diagram of part of the machine. It wasn't clear they were under the wheels and I would have been really hesitant to force off the wheels so forcefully if I hadn't seen your vid. Now have access to the on/off switch which is the problem! Hopefully I can get it sorted and save a lot of money in the process!
My my you may just have saved me loads of money, I am now going to take my DC08 apart to see if it is the motor ( as I suspect it to be) has burnt out..... when I was using it there was a strange noise, then a burning smell so I switched it off, the filters are new, the bin was already empty so I know there is no problem there, when I switched it back on it made the strange noise again for about 10 seconds then cut out completely and is totally “ dead “now...... How can I be sure it’s the motor? Your video is great by the way..... thanks
Thanks, excellent explanation, really was as easy as you made it look. £40 for a motor on Amazon, saved myself £200 for a new one. I'll buy you a beer next time im in Oz
I could fit the motor DC 08 successfully. But fixing the cord wheel was a real challenge. I had to struggle aligning the outer cover. It doesn't look as easy as it looks on the vedio. But it was a good experience and saved money on buying new one.
Bought a new motor, followed along with this video and: success! Worked first time and so much more satisfying than forking out $500+ for a whole new machine :-)
well...thanks it works...we threw the first dyson in the bin...broken everywhere...but then found another broken one, not working...bought the moter, watched the youtube...life is nice again...
Brilliant, thanks Alec, I was able to buy a replacement motor and have the Dyson vacuum cleaner working again like brand new, great instructional video.
Thanks heaps for the video Alec, got my new motor in the post from Vacuumspot yesterday and swapped it out this morning, good as new. Much happier spending $100 than $700-800!
While this video showed me how to take apart my Dyson and I did not find my problem in that area, I did instead happen upon the real source of the problem with one of the smaller actions you took. I didn't realise the hose base could slide out so easily. It turns out my issue was a clog in the handle that had gotten pretty bad. It looks like someone must have made a 'repair' to the handle at some point and used the wrong screw (with silicone to seal it) that protruded into the hose itself. effectively hair and other detritus was just building up on that spike until it completely sealed itself. Thank you for your facilitation of my repair, however accidental it was.
Thanks for the video. Very clearly explained and great camera work. I only needed to access the on/off microswitch but I couldn't have done it without your guidance.
Ah good spotting!! In actual fact it is really neither the MO44 or the MO48. The motor in the video is the original dyson one which has the thermal cutout like the MO44 but is missing the shaft like a MO48. Both the MO48 and MO44 will work fine in the dc08 because of the plastic locator (riser) since the shaft will fit inside the cone no problem. If it was my machine I would use the MO44 but if you want to save the cash the MO48 works fine. Thx for the praise :)
instructions were great...thanks I was able to use these instructions to readjust my retractor cord on Dyson DC11. I used a small allen key instead of screwdriver. $6 at the hardware store :)
Hi Alec, wiht your video i was able to open the DC08 without damaging the body, i have to change the brushes, one is totally consumed but the other is how as new. Many thanks.
I was not shure if i would be able to repair a Dyson but after looking at your video and enjoing it very much, i am certain i can do it also. Thanks mate :-)
Great video. You say that the transparent locator will only fit in one direction but, at 5:55 it is in one position whereas, at 6:02 it has turned 180° (the right position in y opinion).
Thanks for the very informative video Alec, Just ordered my replacement parts from you. I almost binned my Dyson but glad I did a quick google search first :)
Alex, Thank you very much for this, excellent instructions. ordered the kit from eby and followed your instructions...ll the best and keep up the good work
Thanks so much. Really good explained and i made it the first try ^^ At my dyson simple the blue cable was disconnected in the motor. that connection really doesnt hold together very good. Watch for this if you repair your DC08 befor you change the motor or switch.
Great Video. I was easily able to replace my faulty motor. I would like to add that it is possible to replace a Panasonic type motor (mine was a UDS1554CNA) with a YDK type motor. However you must replace the rubber fan case with a YDK type as well.
I'll happily take those beers. Unfortunately most of the manufacturers have stopped selling brushes for their machines, I personally dont understand I would personally rather buy a machine that is repairable than disposable
