This video shows how to remove and replace the string in a Hunter Douglas cord tilt mechanism in a 2" wood or faux wood horizontal blind.

1. With the tilter removed from the blind, remove the retainer pin from the mechanism.
2. With a small screwdriver, gently pry the spool out of the body of the mechanism while compressing the tabs at the center of the spool.
3. When the spool releases, remove it from the body. Remove the old string from the spool.
4. Cut a new piece of string twice the length + 12 inches that you want it to hang down. An industry standard is to have the cord hang down 2/3 of the total length of the blend.
5. Tie a knot in the middle of the string.
6. Insert the string into the holes on the inside of the spool.
7. Wrap each string around the spool four times, one in the right channel and one in the left channel of the spool.
8. Insert the string through the guides in the body, and then snap the spool back into the body of the tilt mechanism.
9. Insert the retainer pin.
10. Test your repair.
