Hey thanks man I appreciate the compliments. And yes all the guitars in this song where recorded on this same Triple rec after the tube change actually.

thanks man. even the manual doesn't say which power tubes are matched pairs, and you answered that right away. cool tunes too, and thanks for commenting on the idea of just pulling tubes out to make it a 50 watter. definitely a bad idea!

Thank you! You’re right. It’s not in the manual. I called and talked to their customer service. That’s how I found out. Cheers!

Thanks for watching. I'm glad you enjoyed it. As for your question. I'm pretty sure you can't. But I'm not an expert so I'd advise contacting MesaBoogie directly. Their contact link is in the description.

The cleaner is called Ideal. You can get it at Radio Shack, or Home Depot. I borrowed it from my friend who got it from Home Depot. I'll put a link in the description of what the can looks like.

The muddiness is because it's a Rectifier.You gotta slam the front of it with a good overdrive to tighten it up.Ive got a recto and can't stand it unless it's boosted, but it's a beast when you do
@austinlindsay
@austinlindsay 5 лет назад
Scott Ray very true. I definitely learned a lot having that amp. I’ve since sold it and am not a mostly a Vox guy now.
@austinlindsay

I've since sold the amp. But I really liked the EL34's, more than the 6L6's.
@levelwave

You may want to double check before you start pulling tubes to lower the wattage on a Triple Rec. Unlike the Dual, which is safe to do, the Triple being 150 watts causes an incompatible change in the Ohm rating with your speaker cabinet.
@austinlindsay
@austinlindsay 11 лет назад
I'd assume it's the same, as long as you swap out in pairs and the bias is correct. But I've never had any experience with The Mesa Boogie 2 X 90 Poweramp. So I'd advise contacting MesaBoogie directly I'll put there contact link in the description.

Preamp tubes are always required. They don't have to be changed at the same time as the power tubes though. What empty holes are you seeing?
@dougbline
@dougbline 11 лет назад
Don't forget to tell them to flip the switch on back to EL34 instead of 6l6 when swapping different tubes! I've never used a spray to change mine, going to have to check into that! Thanks for sharing!!!

Just a suggestion in the future on changing tubes again. I wouldn't use the bare hands while touching tubes because there able to crack the tube easy and finger prints from the oils of your hands effects the tubes as well. Maybe using latex gloves or a micro fiber cloth handling them. Again just a suggestion, nice job though. Mesa 4-life.
@austinlindsay
@austinlindsay 8 лет назад
Thanks for the comment! I've definitely heard about wearing gloves before, and you definitely want them if you need to change a tube shortly after playing. But I've always changed my tubes with my bare hands. If the oils in your hands were enough to be a factor, like in a halogen lamp, the tubes would melt any plastic, telex, and wood near the tube the first time you turned the amp on. Also, the magic happens within the cathode/anode etc, the glass is just a protective layer similar to the glass around a lightbulb, I'm not overly concerned about fingerprints affecting my tone. Hopefully I don't sound like a condescending ass. I definitely respect your opinion and appreciate you taking the time to comment. These are just some of the things I've learned along the way. :)

Valves dont get hot enough for that to be a problem. It's good practice but not essential. Not like a car head light
@guitars123fair

so in a daul rectifier the way you would change the power tubes would be like this in match pairs with 1 going with 4 and 2 with 3?
@markpalcko9753
@markpalcko9753 Год назад
When you buy a full replacement set do these paired packs state on the box which is 1-6 tubes, 2-5 tubes etc?
@austinlindsay
@austinlindsay Год назад
The packs don’t specify. You just want to make sure you put the matched tubes, in the correct matching slots on your amplifier. On this particular amp, you work outward to inward. 1-6, then 2-5, then, 3-4.

I see that you changed out 1&6 at the same time, as with 2&5 and 3&4 on this Mesa. I learned that years ago, but couldn't remember if I remembered correctly until this video today. Thanks man. P.s. why are the tubes changed out this way? Is it just Mesa Boogie? I always see just unplug and replace without doing this. Great video man.
@austinlindsay
@austinlindsay 4 года назад
SuperJiggawhat I’m glad you found it useful. I’m not sure what they wire them up in that order. Could be something to do with electrical flow that is necessary, or just an engineering decision from the creator that just stuck around.

Can you mix and match tubes in these amps? Like 3 6l6s and 3 EL34s? Or would that hurt the amp?

Why didn't you also replace the pre amp tubes and the 3 power amp tubes on the right while you were at it? Would have been nice to see that done before I attempt that as well
@hellskreamer
@hellskreamer 8 лет назад
+Mitchell Holthouse The 3 ones to the right are not power tubes, they are Rectifier tubes. and they don't have to be replace often, same thing with pre amp tubes. Pre amp tubes usually hold up a long time.

@mitch103 8 лет назад
+Heavy Metal For Life I see. I went ahead and replaced the rectifier and pre amp tubes on my dual recto. found out you have to like unscrew a cover that goes over the tubes to get them. kind of threw me off at first
@hellskreamer
@hellskreamer 8 лет назад
hehe :), dual or triple? Is it just me that thinks that triple is overkill when people buy it because of it's 150 watts, 100 watts is enough to play on a arena xD. I really have to swap my power tubes, it's humming and one of the tubes seems to be close to exploding at some points.. o.o
@mitch103
@mitch103 8 лет назад
+Heavy Metal For Life mines a 100. also I'm surprised that you prefer el34 over 6l6 for metal playing
@hellskreamer
@hellskreamer 8 лет назад
Actually, after a long time of playing the 6l6 now, i kinda started liking it more, for some reason i got a bit obsessed with megadeth and wanted a really crispy thrash tone, but now i go for the scooped fat tight thingy sound, i love it, kind of the sound that metallica is using.. Although i don't want to be a copy cat. so i'll just use some stuff that i really like about their tone and the modify it myself :).

Hey Austin, the tubes here in my Triple Rec are almost 14 years old and seem to work pretty good.. If I change all of them , the amp should sound much 'better' ? Do you think it's worth spending about $300 to do this ? Thanks Cesar
@austinlindsay
@austinlindsay 9 лет назад
Cesar0787 If everything works as it should, and you like your tone. I wouldn't change them. If you're looking for a different tone, then it would be worth it to change them to a set of tubes that fit your tonal desires.

If I decided to retube my amp with non mesa boogie EL34/6L6 tubes i.e. JJ tubes. Would I have to mod my triple recto or can I change them without any problems?

As long as you swap out EL34s for EL34s you shouldn't have to do anything but bias the amp.

why does it matter what order you pull them out?
@austinlindsay
@austinlindsay 5 лет назад
CliporisFPV because the tubes are in matched pairs. They work in conjunction with each other. You don’t necessarily need to pull them out in a certain order. But since you need to put them back in pairs, it helps in remembering.

Thx, i got it. It was the 6L6 Tube in the 50 Watt stage. First I tought it would be the preamp tubes. The Clean stage sounds really clean again now. But with the broken tube, the overdrive stages sound much better. A nice sideeffect
