I did that twice to my ex sorento 2012 before 3yr ago it was 63K miles on the 1St ATF exchange and 69K miles on the 2nd exchange .. I did it perfectly ... This year i bought anew Sorrento 2017 the same of yours ... It crouss about 38k miles up now so I will wait up to 45k miles and do the same ... Thank you for sharing your thoughts.. Great video.

Thanks for this. If you are sure the trans has not lost fluid, why not leave the overflow plug alone. Just measure and replace the exact same amount of fluid? Volume will differ with temperature of course so you could do it at ambient room temp or wait for the drained oil to cool before accurately measuring volume to replace. Either way, ... less risk, less waste and less mess. I always use brake or throttle cleaner on drain and refill areas before and after opening. There is a reason these trans are sealed. The slightest bit of grit inside and you risk losing the lot.

@kevingliebe5607

Not good, you should never remove that plug when the vehicle is off! You just lowered the fluid and now your trans is underfilled. The transmission fluid level on Kia vehicles must ONLY be checked when the vehicle is running and at temperature. Only then will the level hole show the correct level (a dribble). What you describes is normal but now you need to refill it again properly or the level will be low. Never check the level of kia transmission fluid with the vehicle off. Kia Tech info and service manual fully describes this. You wil not get the correct level.
@kevingliebe5607
@kevingliebe5607 2 года назад
You can drain when the vehicle is off and remove the drain plug with the vehicle off, but never the level check plug on the front of the trans. That is only to be done when the vehicle is running and at temperature. Do it any other way with a Kia vehicle, you will get the wrong level of trans fluid!
@JunkyardJunkie
@JunkyardJunkie Год назад
@@kevingliebe5607 calm down, go to 13:30 and listen till the end. At that part you will finish topping it off while it’s running.

Hey sorry if I didn’t answer it for you last time. So, I did look into your owner manual online and you are correct they don’t specify anything to do with transmission fluid. I know a lot of these newer vehicles they say that it’s a lifetime fluid (don’t believe that). But, Nalley Kia recommends every 30k-50k miles. For your other question, I did wind up asking her and she told me that other than the break in period (500 miles) she had not had it changed. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. On a Kia you do the initial fill till it runs out the lower hole. Drive the vehicle about 5 or 10 minutes until the engine is at operating temp. Remove the lower check plug and the fill plug and keep adding until it runs out. On a medium to full sized vehicle you will get another 2 quarts or so in it. Do this while the engine is running.

If you have to fill until the fluid starts coming out of the overflow port, is there a reason why you can't just treat the overflow port as the filler (similar to rear diff or transfer case) and pump fluid in that way? Seems like it would be easier than going in from the top of the engine, but I haven't tried this job yet.

Hey, so looking it up and talking with dealerships they recommend to change it every 30k miles to keep your transmission from slipping. You’re at 105k I would still feel comfortable changing it at that mileage. But to be sure open the overfill plug and look inside if you cant see then you can pick up a cheap borescope (20$ish) to check and make sure you don’t see clutch material you should be fine. Also make sure it doesn’t smell really burnt. Anyways good luck! Thanks for watching!

Depends on the condition of the oil and the miles. If you are changing it for the first time at 100k I would change it once then change it again at 1000 miles. Then start changing it every 30k miles.

Does the engine need to be running when filling up the last portion of atf fluid?
@JunkyardJunkie
@JunkyardJunkie 2 года назад
Yes you want it running to shift through the gears. Then just go ahead and open it and fill it while it’s running. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

That’s awesome! As for why it takes for ever it’s just how they designed it nothing to worry about. If it had a dipstick, it would have a larger volume you could fill so it wouldn’t seem as long. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

What is the best indicator to change atf?
@JunkyardJunkie
@JunkyardJunkie 2 года назад
Most cars have a dip stick so you can check to see if it has a nice red color. But realistically you want to change it on the intervals specified by manufacture. Which for this Kia if I remember correctly is every 30k miles. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
@RobertAngeloRagodon

thanks for the quick response. one last question. where can i locate the dip stick for atf?
@JunkyardJunkie
@JunkyardJunkie 2 года назад
If you have this Kia it doesn’t offer a dipstick. Not all vehicles will unfortunately. One you can always consult your owners manual that should be able to tell you or if you look around the transmission you should see a tube coming out of it on one of the sides. If you follow it up you’ll see the dipstick. Hope this helps!

@JunkyardJunkie
@JunkyardJunkie 2 года назад
It’s dependent on how bad of shape it’s in. If you smell it and it smells burnt or can see clutch materiel I wouldn’t change it. Otherwise I would keep up with changing to extend the life of your transmission. Thanks for watching!

There’s a lot it could be such as: Low transmission fluid level Dirty transmission fluid Faulty Shift Solenoids Shift Solenoids harness is open or shorted Shift Solenoids circuit poot electrical connection Transmission mechanical problems Transmission hydraulic control circuit So start simple check the fluid if it’s dirty change it if it’s low add some. If it’s not you’ll have to take it in for a proper diagnosis. Hope this helps.

For any of ya'll that want to do it and don't have many tools and have a small pump, their is a 24mm bolt on the back of the exhaust manifold. You can also fill it this way. And No the fluid check plug IS NOT A FILLER HOLE ACCORDING TO KIA.
@JunkyardJunkie
@JunkyardJunkie 2 года назад
Good idea on the pump. Although it’s more likely people have a cheap ratchet set then a pump that’s worth even using. Literally almost everyone uses it at a fill hole so I’m not sure why your so upset haha. But, the way Kia wants you to do it (per the dealership) is fill it back up at the bottom overfill port. I believe I said this in the video (if I didn’t I apologize). But, usually it’s a pain to fill it from there and easier to add from the top. Anyways thanks for watching!
@ronijr4918

@@JunkyardJunkie I'm not upset lol. I was just giving another option but you did a great job on filling it from the top as well it's just that on the " kia manufacturer maintenance procedure " specific says the check plug is not a fill plug. But good video either way! 👍cheers.

Do you mean there's a 24mm fill access port somewhere BEHIND the exhaust manifold on the transmission housing? The way you word it, it sounds like you remove a 24mm bolt from the exhaust manifold and fill through the manifold.

I used that same funnel set up, when filling the trans with fluid, it kept bubbling and fluid went everywhere. There’s got to be a better way. Kia sucks honestly between their motors and cheap parts, & over engineered/complicated when compared to Honda vehicles
