This video focuses on changing any permalink structure in Wordpress without the old post structure going to a 404 (not found) page. We want those old URLs with dates in them to redirect to our new structure seamlessly.
The Yoast permalink changing utility featured in the video can be found here: yoast.com/rese...

Where have you been all my life lol?! Seriously though, I'm scared to death to try this and mess it up since I'm new to website creation. I'm 7 months into my site and about a dozen blog posts out of 40 are ranking number one for their keyword. I might give it a go tonight or tomorrow and I'll comment back to give an update.

OK. I did it. It took about an hour of frustration though. The Yoast redirect that was generated would only work with some of my posts. There was no method to the madness. I erased it from the .htaccess and generated a new redirect to paste. It also only worked on some posts but not all. I erased it again and saved. I was about to give up and try to go back to "date and post name" format but I generated another Yoast redirect code. It was not the same code that was given to me the first time, but I'm not sure if it matched the second code or not. Either way, the 3rd code seemed to do the trick. All of my posts are now redirecting including the internal ones, and the ones that I locate when I do a google search. Thanks for your help and that this was long, I just hope it helps someone else if they experience the same thing!

Hi Philip, I have more than 150 posts in my website if I try this technique it would take lot of time to do that. Is there any other way so that all my posts permalink structure gets replace all together. Thanks 👍

It worked after deactivating the plugins. But what about websites that work on NGNIX

Nginx is a different animal. You have to change the directives in a separate nginx config file, which can be fairly involved. If enough people ask for specifics, I can make a video about it. Is this something you are working with?

Ever since I changed my Permalinks to the POST setting, now my pages come up "404 Not Found" If I change back to Custom Structure, it still comes up 404. I tried multiple times setting for POST, but no luck. Is there any other way to correct this if one is not comfortable about following the method you outlined in your video. Thanks. Philip

Unfortunately I can’t think of too many ways around needing to do this. Basically you’re needing to tell the server that there is a new way you want to display links, so once the server knows that it, can display your pages. Then part two of that is getting the old links to talk to the new links so you don’t have 404s on the old ones.

Do you have FTP access to your server, or at least a hosting login? I could walk you through it on a zoom call if you want.

@@ApexRush I see and follow your logic. Thanks. I am new to using Wordpress (just started yesterday) and unfortunately, I accidentally published and over wrote my website, which has been up for years (using Yahoo webhosting), so I need to get something up there fast just so I don't lose any potential business for photography. Yahoo no longer supports their previous website building tool (Sitebuilder) so I somewhat was forced to change to Wordpress. I just feel somewhat frustrated as currently all I have is a landing page (from the template I am using, and no content, images, etc. Thanks. Philip (From The NYC Area)

@@ApexRush That is extremely nice of you to offer. Well, my wife is more familiar with FTP than I am and she will be here later this afternoon, so if that is OK with you, we could do the Zoom meeting at that time. I am guessing around 3PM-3:30PM she will be here. Again, very nice of you to offer. Forgot to mention, I am on EST time here in NJ. A later time to do it is also fine if that helps...Thanks. Philip
