How To Change Your Subaru STI Air Filter

The air box exterior has a recessed channel for the sensor cable conduit (visible at 2:23). I noticed that when I changed my filter today. In this video, at 2:14, the conduit was left loose and may move around when the car is being driven.

I got a K&N drop in air filter. Clean it whenever it starts to look dirty. In fact going to check it right now.

hey bro just a quick observation, I noticed the air filter u had originally had like 25 folds in the air filter and the new one you installed had like 14 folds. did u notice any difference in performance? now the reason I'm asking this is becuz I recently changed mine and the one I had originally had 14 folds but the new one that I bought had 25 holds and now my car feels faster I'm guessing bcuz it let's more air in. what I'm thinking is that I got the wrong air filter and that they accidently send me the air filter for the wrx instead of the STI. I have a 2016 sti. and the part number for the wrx and the sti air filters are different.

Inserting the filter pleats into the front half of the air box is an important step; getting the rubber edge in first just frustrated me and didn't fit.

Great video! I have a question about my 15 wrx sti. There was a oil leak on my engine bay. The dealer was changed a seal for it and the problem solved. But after that, I heard some noises comes from the engine bay like turbo spin sound louder and when release gas, it sound likes a bov but not that loud. I took it back to the dealer, they said everything normal. So What do you think? Cheers

Not gunna lie took me like 30 min to do! Idk how you got the air filter out like that I had to disassemble the air box to get that bad boy out of there lol rip to a few air duct cowling clips lol!

Does it have to be oem or can I get on from auto zone ?

As of March-2024, the air filter costs $20 from the dealership, but $24 from Amazon. I guess it's worth at least checking the dealer price. Shrug.

When do you need to change air filter? Every how many miles?

Why not just remove the 2 pop clips and remove the scoop instead?

Any tips for pulling the sensor off? I push the tab down but the sensor isn't coming undone.

My dealer wants almost $1000 to do the brakes on my sti just because they're brembos, funny thing is that brembos are easier to change the pads on than wrx calipers since you just pull the pad from the top and dont have to open the caliper. Sshhh

change mine with oil change....gets dirty fast and fuel mileage drops from 29 or 30 top 26....replace filter with mahle or Subaru filter and fuel economy is restored....15 wrx limited cvt

What kind of magic have you practicing? I mean how is that filter you pulled out still white? Here in Calgary mine was gray after literally 1k miles.
