Cannot believe how easy and clear you made this for me! This was without a doubt the best “how to” video i have seen in some time! I am THRILLED to have my new wiper inserts installed, and the clean windshield is AMAZING! Thanks for not yakking endlessly about stuff we don’t want, or need, to know. So many people seem to need to hear their own voices, ugh. But not you! Nope, you gave us the facts we needed, the closeups and details that were helpful, and moved along smartly. Gosh, thanks so much, i so appreciate this vid! I have never left a comment about a vid till now. This is an emotional moment for me, new wiper inserts and all, bwahaahahahhahahaaa!

the original OEM wiper blades that have come on most new toyota's (J jook style) since the mid 00's are called "DENSO DESIGNER" and are available on rockauto and amazon. the wiper blades they sell at the dealer "sightline" look simular but are different and cheaper quality and DO NOT have a replaceable insert. the rubber insert refills for the OEM denso blades are available at your local toyota dealer parts counter or any toyota parts dealer website. personally these are the best wiper blades i have ever used, being able to swap the inserts is a nice cost savings

Never throw away your wiper blades (black plastic frame that holds the rubber refill) that come with the car from the factory. This goes for any brand vehicle. And make sure the dealer doesn't dispose of them either. Some dealers love to replace the entire piece because they can make a lot more money that way. You can get Anco refills but they aren't as good as OEM.

This video is really excellent! I have a 2000 Tacoma 4WD, and I purchased new wiper refills from my Toyota dealer. 85214-YZZD4-TM (B425) The instructions that come with these refills show that the curve direction of the support ribs is different for the driver's side and the passenger side, even though both sides use the same insert. The diagram shows the driver's side blade curving away from the windshielt, and the passenger side blade curving towards the windshield. I also notice that one of the blades has support ribs that are very slightly curved, and the other has support ribs that are more curved. The blade assemblies look identical, yet have different part numbers for driver and passenger sides. I think think the only diference is how curved the support ribs are. Anyway, its unclear which direction the ribs should curve, and which side gets the ribs with greater curve.

Yeah, only no. 1st Gen Toyota Auris. New OEM wipers fitted by Toyota Dealership 3 years ago (at a cost of 50 euro or something). They don't slide out at all from either side, they are "open" on both sides, there is no spring to unclip, no "end" part/cap to undo or anything. Looking at them carefully, the metal parts have cutouts in two separate places, where the "body" of the wipers drops/clips into, and the body cannot be bend or whatever (unless you break the clips) so they are designed NOT to be refillable. Such design effort to waste valuable resources and forcing you into buying new ones.

I went to Stadium Gettel Toyota this month 5/24 for an oil change on my Corolla SE 2018, with an appointment that included a special price for $19.99, and when it was done my bill was $40. I looked at the bill, and I asked my service writer why it was much more besides taxes and shop supplies? He responded that I should be happy because it should have been $119.00 and that Toyota installed new wipers. He mentioned that he discounted $80. I was okay paying $40. But the way he went about it was shady. Mind you, I worked at this dealership for over 10 years as a new cars associate, and everyone, including the service manager, is a friend of mine. Today, I went to check the wipers, and I noticed one wiper has the Toyota name printed on, and the other one does not. Is that normal. Sightline wipers. Things that make go humm.

@@TheCarCareNut so let me ask you. I’m debating between getting a Camry V6 or an Accord 2.0 turbo. Being a master technician for Toyotas does your knowledge spill into Honda’s engines as well? I’d really enjoy you making a video on Honda’s direct injection 2.0 single scroll turbo with internal wastegate. I already know that you think a better solution is Toyota’s port+direct injection solution because of carbon build up and then of course a turbo will have a potentially shorter life because of the wear due to forced induction over time. To hear you elaborate on this would be fantastic

@@rstuff1605 Rain-X is good stuff, but I learned the hard way it is *seriously* incompatible with Mr. Clean AutoDry Car Wash. I did the Rain-X and then washed the car with Autodry. Soon after that we were caught in light rain on the freeway so I turned on the wipers. AAAH! the wipers appeared to be spreading thick white paint on the windshield! I rolled down the window and stuck my head out enough to make it to the next off-ramp where there was a gas station. Nothing helped; when I operated the wet wipers I go the white paint effect. We continued after the rain stopped and made it home. There I tried every cleaning product and solvent we had with no help: both the Rain-X and Autodry had bonded with the glass. I got cerium oxide and used that for about half an hour, which made the car drivable in rain but left streaks of white madness around the edges of the windshield. It only went away when I replaced the windshield a year or two later. My recommendation - avoid Autodry or similar products like the plague.

Great video, very helpful as I had no idea I could just replace these with inserts. Each blade was about $7 from the official Toyota parts online-store with pick up at my local dealership. The rear window inserts are designed differently and don't have the lock feature built into the rubber, and are held in by lips at either end of the assembly. Best way I found was to start inserting at the middle clip (of 3), fully insert to one end, then slightly bend the insert to be able to get it into the opposite end's clip. If the clip slips out of the correct channel, you can gently wiggle and pull it back out.

Not a very convenient way to wash and clean the windshield. My other design flaw is the windshield fluid container. The part that shows is only the neck... usually one could see the whole container and know immediately how much was in there. Now you just guess until the fluid is practically to the top. I'm disappointed as I'm getting to know my 8th Toyota. Never had goofy designs on any car of owned before.

Thank you for the video! It came in handy as my 2014 prius' wipers were just starting to streak this winter. They were the original wipers with 7.5 years and 60k miles of use. Like you, I don't neglect changing these out, but I surely would not recommend changing these out every 6-12 months as that is just not usually needed. Mine were streak free until the last month. By the way, on my other prius I am using Bosch Icons as the prior owner threw the oem wipers in the trash and put on cheap aftermarket wiper arms and blades. The Icons I replaced them with are now 4 years old and rival the new wiper inserts just installed on my other prius. However, I am going to replace them eventually with the oem inserts and wiper arm assembly as Bosch has gone up in price to over $50 for both blades, the same price as what I can buy the whole oem assembly for. After that, the inserts are about $25 per pair, just half the cost of new aftermarket wipers.

I only buy Toyota genuine parts because they are cheaper here in Australia than aftermarket parts

I believe my mother's Corolla wiper blades were stolen by a mechanic that sold her crappy aftermarket wiper blades.

@Muhammad Arshad I use silicone advantage Rain-X wipers on my old Toyota Matrix 2006. Best wipers I’ve ever used. & I’ve been around lots of wiper blades, conventional rubber ones, horrible graphite noise, O.E.M. Ones pretty good but not as good as silicone advantage wiper blades. I don’t care what anybody says, silicone advantage wiper blades work the best

Just got burned at the local Toyota dealership. They said that Toyota stopped selling inserts. They screwed me out of $50.

Thats because they are literally forced to sell junk chinese made "Sight Line" wipers by Toyota reps. They came out about 15 years ago.

Toyota doesn't sell these refills or inserts for 2007 Avalon. They only sell the entire wiper blade. Sad...

If you cannot use your fingers to slide the insert out initially then use a pair of pliers!!!

What do you do when it won't pull off like in the video? I have OEM blades.

I see that most auto parts centers dont have the inserts only the entire blade which is more expensive.

Is there a specific orientation you have to slide them back in? Or either side is ok?

AMD as usual a very clear concise video with great advice. Maybe consider updating the video to cover rear wipers for those of us with a Toyota SUV.

It's not that hard to do, the wiper cap is in the way, you either rotate it out of the way or slide/rotate out of the way. But you have to replace the entire blade.

Question. My windshield is delaminating and I want to get a new windshield (live in a 0 deductible state). I want to demand an OEM glass WITH the Lexus logo from the insurance company, but I fear they'll argue with me cause it's a 2007 ES. But they don't charge me as if its a 2007 is going to be my response. Will an OEM glass with no Lexus logo be sufficient? Also i was going to demand the dealership do it but I hear most dealerships outsource, if I go to an 3rd party shop is there anything I need to make sure of they do? My car has the ultra luxury package.

Does that work for Toyota trucks as well, can i buy Rain X blades (rubber part) and install them on the toyta assembly?

The only car that doesn’t have an option for inserts are 2007-current tundra and 2005-2012 Avalon.
