That's awesome to show how that works. I know I had to jump start my dewalt and Milwaukee packs to get them to charge when running them down too low to charge. Awesome power supply I remember when they use to cost way more back in the days before Amazon 🥰

for sure, I couldn't find any videos really on how to use these power supply's as chargers so I thought I would make one. good to hear, those tool batteries are not cheap. yeah it's crazy how cheap this kind of stuff has gotten. haven't had any problems with mine so far

yeah so nice you can custom charge anything. my regular 2 channel charger kept kicking me out because it was charging so slow. a lot of good uses for them

You set it to the max charge voltage and it won’t go over that

I was looking for options to overcome the limitations of these so called “smart chargers.” I started listening and realized, I know that voice from another place, or maybe it’s a super hero ? Thanks for the video T-Dubs, I recall that you mentioned having another channel but never caught the name. Best wishes, good luck & have fun !

Useful info m8. I have a lab spec power supply that I inherited from a roommate. Gonna have to drag it out of storage for some experimenting. I have a collection of li ion and lipo batteries begging for project use. Did you move into your own crib? If so, congrats!

thanks! nice they are quite useful. fun to test stuff out on too. nice, I think you can get a special welder to weld the li ion contacts to bus bars to make some cool battery packs. na still at my parents place. ill live in a vehicle before I rent an apartment. need to figure out where I want to live before buying a place

You have to charge a battery at a limited voltage . What about current. The battery is going to draw its required amps or you have to limit the current as well?
@4WheelKid
@4WheelKid 16 дней назад
you can limit current as well. not a big dealer with these cells though since they can can be charged at high current
@Richie_
@Richie_ Год назад
You should be teaching how to work out how many amps to set the supply to. It's usually 1/10th the power of battery.
@4WheelKid
@4WheelKid Год назад
every battery is different, that's like saying every car takes 5qts of oil. learn about different battery chemistries, and read the spec sheets and learn about c ratings. these LIfepo4 cells have a 1 c rating so you can charge/discharge them at 280 amps. I wouldn't go that high for charging though even .5 c charge rate at 140 amps is more than enough

Hello sir!!! I need to top balance my lifePO4 cells but I have cheaper lifePO4 charger 14.6V10a how can I archive this while my four cells rated voltage is 3.2V
@4WheelKid
@4WheelKid Год назад
not really possible with that charger, need a charger like this, www.amazon.com/Charger-Battery-Balance-Discharger-Adapter/dp/B07R18YNZQ/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=lipo+charger&qid=1681706955&sr=8-6&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.18ed3cb5-28d5-4975-8bc7-93deae8f9840 connect all cells in parallel connect the charge lead and balance lead and charge at max amps to top balance, then connect in series, best to connect a bms at that point too
@gavinmcclure8047
@gavinmcclure8047 9 месяцев назад
How would you do this with a headway bank ? Would you have to break it down and link the bars in series? Or just do each cell individually
@4WheelKid
@4WheelKid 9 месяцев назад
Just depends on what your trying to accomplish, if your building a battery and trying to top balance, i would charge each cell to the top then I would connect cells in parallel and charge all cells together to the top per cell voltage. Then your ready to connect into the pack configuration. If your just trying to charge a battery thats already configured and balanced then I would charge the pack as a whole to full. Again I’m not sure what your trying to do

hey thanks! I don't think so it's designed to output 0-30 volts with 0-10 amps. the cooling fan keeps things cool

If I want to supply with constant voltage to 12v car battery, what values are safer in order to avoid overcharging or burn the battery?

14.5 volts should be fine, thats what its at with the car running usually

please can i use lithium battery charger to top balance my lifpo battery?
@4WheelKid
@4WheelKid Год назад
It depends. For Lifepo4 cells usually the lowest voltage you ever want to go is 2.5v the highest charge voltage is 3.65v per cell. Your not descriptive enough on what your lithium charger is. Ill be using my balance charger that I use for my lipo packs for fpv, it can charge life batteries. Even when charging a single cell, I connect the balance lead to the cell posts separate from the charge leads. This allows the charger to raise the voltage higher than the max charge voltage so it can overcome the voltage drop through the battery cables and obtain max charge voltage at the battery posts so we it can send the max amount of amps through. Yet the battery posts will not ever be getting above max charge voltage because its constantly being monitored by the charger through the balance lead. My balance charger can charge up to 12amps and takes about 24 hours to fully charge a 280ah lifepo4 cell but it also has 2 channels 12 amps each so I can charge 2 at a time. Ill be making a video all about it

You into amateur radio? Good thing to start. I have one one my workbench. I do not use it on a standard 12.8 radio. They have a bit of ac ripple. Yes i charge bateries with it to. I would not use a solid state power supply to charge batteries. They are circuits you can build to use a solid state ps. Last i remember there are 4 different ways they build switching power supplies. Dave Jones had a you tube channel covering these switching ps. It was called eevblog. Yes they do make very clean ps . Good video.. Nicely done. Good move on waiting to buy. Try not to pay for something you can not own. 😊
@4WheelKid
@4WheelKid Год назад
I am not, I would but have way too many hobbies at the moment haha. You wouldn’t use a switching power supply like I used to charge a battery? I found the best charger to charge these lifepo4 cells is the one I use for my fpv drones, even if I charge one cell at a time you gotta still use the balance lead connected 1 cell and ground at the battery posts, because it monitors actual voltage of the cell so It can raise the voltage on the back end to compensate for the voltage drop on the cables, these LIFEPO4 cells have such a tiny voltage range throughout most of the capacity that even a small voltage drop will cause it to not be charged at full amperage the charger can put out

Thanks!

I’m pretty new to all of this but I’m trying to charge a small 12V battery for a 8 plug power strip and I’m wondering how high I should set the voltage. On my power supply unit I can’t set the amps unless I adjust the voltage too. The battery currently is charged to about 6.5V I hope that’s clear.

it's hard to say without looking at it. you would want to se the voltage to the max you need to charge the battery

Hey, nice video. I was wondering if you have an idea for my situation. I have a shop where I do electrical work on vehicles. Now from time to time the vehicle battery will drain because I work on it for more than a day or so. So I'm looking for a 12v power supply where I can hook up the vehicle so they never drain while working on them. I might as well use some of the power supply to power some probetesters around the shop. Since it's all under the same circuit. I'm not looking though to set rules each and every time I hook up the vehicle. I want it to be a quick thing. On & off. Technically I'm not even charging the battery I'm just maintaining a 12 volt flow. Please let me know if you have any ideas what I can do. Thanks 🙏🏻

Hey thanks, I would Highly recommend this one as long as 6 amps is enough (enough for my 4runner but not my bmw) of a supply charge ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BbK4XzrjWSw.html also does battery, starting and charging system tests though a phone app. but you don't need the app to start the supply charge, can be done right on the device
