Sir, your courage and willingness to stand up against big battery is commended! NOTE: I didn't have wires like the ones shown in this video so I tried the insulated speaker cable from my home stereo. Worked
Absolutely phenomenal!! Saved me $200. Worked as advertised. Jumped for 5 min. Then put on charger n got the green charging light. Great information !!!
Genius! Just spent a scary twenty minutes in my shed worrying I was going to electrocute myself, but batteries now charging again. Clever stuff. Thanks!
This technique worked perfectly for me. My charger only flashed red. Cross wired with a Dewalt battery and now both Porter Cable batteries are Back in action! Thank you!
I was about to throw two batteries away until i found this video! 30 to 45 seconds connected to a good battery and now they are both charging! Thanks you!
I just went out to my garage to see if I could fix two of my three Craftsman batteries that only worked for a couple of months. I’ve been doing all of my yard work with one battery, sharing it between my weed eater, blower and hedge trimmer. I cut a couple pieces of wire, followed your instructions and less than a minute later both of the dead batteries are charging!! Many thanks to you for posting this!!
Hey bro I just want you to know that you saved me a bunch of money !!! I was about to buy a new set of tools because I have porter cable 18volt system with many tools and attachments . I did this trick and boom all of my batteries came back to life and are holding 16.5 _ 18.9 volts again ! Thanks so very much . I'm glad I ran across this video.
I guess I left my battery out side in my shed over Winter after I had ran it dead. I just did what the video showed and now it's charging. thanks save the day
I can't say this often about RU-vid vids, but this actually works, thanks. I received a new 20v 1.5 lithium battery from eBay a few days ago, wouldn't take a charge. Received a replacement just today, same thing. Watched your vid, hooked up the wires for literally maybe 30 seconds, hooked the battery up to the charger and bingo green light flashing, (charging).
Yep, worked on old porter cable 18v li-ion Battery like a charm. Thanks for taking the time to explain and demonstrate how and why this works. Jesus is King!
Dude, You saved me $200 to buy a new 58V battery for my echo weed eater. The charger says the battery is no good, I metered the large battery it had about 2 volts. I connected a couple of wires from a Harbor freight power tool battery for about 60 seconds and I was off and running! Thanks !!!
This actually worked for me! I tried everything. Even put the battery 2 days in the freezer. Nothing worked. Tried this with a new battery. Waited 2/3 minutes. Plugged it in and it worked. It was with a black+decker battery. Thanks a lot!
I had WORX cordless drill and just bought a new charger and realised one of the batter was not charging. I used your method and it worked. The only difference is I had to keep my battry cannected for 15 min. I owe you a shot of Whisky.... Cheers my friend
Same situation with the blinking red light. I found a battery (likely never used) in a Porter Cable hard case (I must have bought duplicate combo packs throughout the years and forgot about the battery). The date on the battery was 2013. This "jumping" trick worked for me (at least after 5 seconds of getting jumped its charging now). I did get a little spark on the final wire connection from pos to pos, but I only peed myself a little. Saved me $70. Thanks!
It Charged!! I'd heard about doing this to kick-start a battery & I had the perfect candidate. A Porter-Cable 18 volt NiCd not used for a couple years after not charging. Showed 7 Thousandths of a volt on my Fluke dmm (0.007v)! Made some jumpers with a fuse and jumped it for 3 minutes. Put it on the charger & it charged for almost an hour. Can't wait to see how it performs. Thanks
Excellent! This procedure also worked with my Greenworks 40V battery that acted dead. Jumpered it with another Greenworks 40V. Thank you for your well done video!
Anthony, I got a Porter Cable 20v drill with two batts. I moved years ago, packed them up, forgot about them til recently. Neither battery would start to charge, I got the rapid blinking red light. Used your method in the video with a known good 18v batt. Both of the 20v are now charging. Thanks for the tech tip.
OMG this worked!!!!!! Brand new 20v lithium battery had it for a month and started doing this. Tried this technique and worked. Thank you so much you’re amazing
Thanks. In this video you suggested only using the same type of battery. I had a 20V Black & Decker battery that was used for a backpack sprayer that was accidentally left on. Voltage had dropped to 1.9v and would not charge. I did not have any spare batteries and did not have a need for another batter so I took a chance and used a 18v Makita battery and jumped it as shown and I now have both batteries in their charges and they are charging fine. Saved me $30 for a battery I didn't need.
It worked for me. Left it on bout 10 seconds. It started charging. I used what wire I had. It was too big to fit in slots so i cut a few of them off to where it would go in. Saved me money man. Thanks.
Worked like a dream on 2 60v Black and Decker batteries I brought in the house over the winter. Had to use a Craftsman Battey to jump them. Use a volt meter! Saved me $200+ Thank you!!!
You saved my Porter Cable 20v's life!! Have never charged the battery and ran it til it died. Would not take a charge. Only came with one battery, so I used a Black & Decker 20v Weed eater battery to jump it with. Worked like a champ. Thank you, Thank you!!
I knew that some automotive battery maintainers had that feature and I didn't even think about that being the problem with these. I'm a diy guy at heart but when tools dont work I want them back up ASAP. So, I was minutes from ordering replacements. THANK YOU. you saved me a ton of money and made me think.
Brilliant, thanks for that simple but valuable advice. My Worx battery couldn’t charge so followed this advice and connected to Dewalt battery and after being connected for a few minutes Worx battery started to charge in a charger as normally would. Saved me for buying new battery.
Thanks. Did what you suggested and my pack is charging up. I hooked mine up to a power supply for a very brief time and put it the charger. Green to go! Sure appreciate your taking the time to post the video. Two thumbs up.
Bro...... YOU ABSOLUTELY ROCK. I just picked up a brand new porter cable drill with 2 batteries and charger for 50 bucks because the store said the batteries were shot, lol. I literally jumped the new ones for a few seconds, not minutes, and they're both charging. One was blinking red fast, and the other was blinking red for over temp, I'll find out if they take a full charge or not in a little bit but damn, best video I've seen on RU-vid yet.
Can’t thank you enough for this video. And the explanation was perfect as to the why. I had 5 new in the package batteries from 2019 that I just opened and every one of them was doa, and I was freaking out, cussing out the seller, who I knew was long gone. Saw the video and made a set of jumper cables and now every one of them is fully charged and ready to go.
My porter cable battery died yesterday and mom was about to toss it. I googled and followed your instruction and now mom thinks im a magician! I just used cables that came with my multimeter. only took about 10 sec and voila!
Thanks so much was about to buy my little brother a new 3sip 11.1v 2700mAh lithium battery till I saw this. Work like a champ you just gave me a great idea with all the old batteries that people get rid of.
Wow I just did the test on my battery Porter cable 18 was dead Srprise, it works like a new one. Thank you Man you just saved me at least $ 50 or $ 60. Thanks
Brilliant! And awesome explanation in the video. Worked like a charm I had one of these 20V batteries that wasn't even 2 years old that wouldn't charge and now it's happily green blinking away. Hopefully it will work on my original battery that came with the drill set too!
People like you are great, seriously. These days you can find just about anything on RU-vid, and I think we’re all grateful for that. Thanks 🙏🏻 this worked for me.
Wow, did not expect this to work, but I had some free time and a totally dead battery, so what the heck. Only took about a minute to bring the dead one up to the point where it would take a charge. Thanks!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I took some speaker wire and did exactly as you said. It worked perfectly and in less than a minute! My battery pack was actually brand new but it has sat unused for about a year. I was using another battery pack that never seemed to need charging until the other day. I watched videos claiming the battery was dead and won't ever charge or that I needed to take it apart and modify the wires and/or replace the battery or that I need to buy a entire new battery...blah, blah, blah! Then I found your video and thought I'd give it a try. You are a genius. I love simple solutions. Yours was the best out of all of the videos. Thanks again.😊
Just like you said. I left it on for 1 minute. Good battery, 20v 4.0Ah to 1.5 Ah bad. Works perfectly. Since Porter Cable sent a replacement, now I have 3 batteries. Nice...
Thinking on it, the battery that was bad was never used. That may be the reason for my success. The battery wasn't charged or discharged multiple times. And I believe I've tried this on some older batteries with no success. So sometimes, it'll work sometimes it won't.
That worked like a charm!!!!!!! I have an 18 v Porter Cable and one battery hasn't worked for a long time. Just ran wires like he said and spark and now its charging
yes they do on ebay. You can get knock off batteries for a good price, I have bought two and one died a year or two in and the other my son still uses ,also the aftermarket china ones have a led battery level on them which makes it a lot nicer then guessing if your battery will die.
Thanks for this video. I drained a battery using my Porta cable flash light and it was fairly new and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't charge any more. I did this and it works fine now.
I use my laptop charger which is pushing out 19 1/2 v. Make sure to keep an eye on the battery as it's charging making sure it doesn't get too hot. I also put it in front of a fan to ensure the same thing. By the way I was doing this because I diddnt have a charger for that manufacturers batteries at that time otherwise I would have done as shown in the video. Actually I probably would have just stuck it on the charger and we're doing fine. I have walked away from a 12 volt Milwaukee battery that I left charging on my car while it was running and well it never charged again... I was also quite happy when I realized that I can jump my truck with the 18 volt battery, I wasn't exactly thrilled about doing it but I was in the middle of nowhere and I had used all my battery for lights while fishin and that was my only way out. But, I tell you what, that sucker started right up! I just made sure to kill as many of the electronics as possible as to not fry them. 😎
I've done it with a 9V battery connected to my MacBook pro's battery. I think I may have left it on too long after watching this. If ALL your batteries are below that level you may try it. Just figure out the + and - and rig a small wire. I'm going to try this, though. 👍
Thank you! Fixed my expensive sprayer battery. I didn't have a second one similar so I used my 18v drill lithium battery and looks like it's working now.
Just recovered a 2 year old 80v Harbor Freight Atlas battery ($110) that would start the trimmer, but immediately shut off recovered using this method. Put it on the charger, flashing red. Checked voltage, 38+v each leg. Press the test button, 3 lights. Put it on the charger it would start the fan, then flash red. Connected same aged charged battery to each leg for some minutes, same issue. Connected a new, fully charged 40+v per leg for 5 minutes each leg and this time it charged.
another way to get tricky is use an wall charger and hook it up... like he was saying make sure you get positive to positive... negative to negative... or you may damage yer equipment...12 volt to 19 volt will work... dont leave it on for very long may run risk of damage the batery .. good luck
Thank you. Searched and this was the 1st video that popped up to me and it was money. Again, thank you. My battery is working again. For the record, I used a 20v B&D battery to "jump" my "bad" 20v Porter Cable battery and it worked.like a charm. 😉
I know the Black & Decker batteries are electrically identical to the Porter Cable ones. I've seen folks trim the tabs and use them interchanging between brands. So I imagine this process should work out for the Black & Decker one's as well. I got a couple of those blue tooth ones that went dead charging cellphones I'm going to try this on.
I can verify this worked to restore a brand new Briggs & Stratton 82V Max that was DOA with a Snapper Mower Kit. Return policy at Lowes was that I would have to return the mower kit which was special ordered to begin with and would have caused another two-week delay, so I found this and another video using the same method, and I used a scrap piece of 20 Amp house wiring. It literally took only a minute to jump the bad battery up from 49.6Vdc to72Vdc, which put it WELL above the 52 volt threshold required by the charger. It charged normally right away.
I did this trick with a low voltage solar panel. The solar panel needs a usb port. Take a usb alligator clip or + and - rings. In alligator clips, put then on and place the panel outside. For the rings, push them into the slots. In the same way you jump a car battery, you're doing the same!
I ran leads from the good one to the bad one for 10 minutes. The bad one showed, via the leds, that it was receiving power from the good battery, but when I put it back on the charger it still wouldn't charge. The bad battery is literally brand new, only used once by a weed eater that doesn't let you know when the power is getting low, like a screw gun does, instead it just turns off. So I put the charger on the good battery while the leads were still inserted between the two batteries. I'll let you know how that turns out. The batteries are 20V Lithium Ion, Hyper Tough brand. I returned 2 of them to the store before I watched this video. This is the first video I found that didn't tell me to take the battery(s) apart. These batteries have a USB port, and made sense to me that they could possibly be charged through it, but that wasn't the case. Why do rechargeable batteries, and their chargers have to be so complex? I mean... the chargers really aren't anything special anymore really just a socket on the end of a two tiny wires. Not big recharging stations like before. Yet they can somehow still detect when a battery is run too low. HOW??? I don't get it... probably never will. Thanks for posting the video though.
Great stuff! Ill try it tomorrow! I know the trick with the 18650 cells to connect them one "dead" with one fully loaded and keep them for fiew seconds. This can also be done in this case too. You just have to ooen the bagtery and search for cells that are "dead". Thanks.
This pro-tip will work for all kinds of rechargeable batteries. I had a 12v small SLA battery that was zero dead. My battery charger would not recognize it to charge. I put the battery in parallel with another 12 vdc battery for a little bit, just enough to raise it from zero. Then put it on the charger and voila! That was about a year ago, and that battery is still starting the generator just fine. Earlier this morning, I did the same hack for a zero dead 7.4 Li-ion battery that's powers my little walkie-talkie radio. I forced power from another battery in parallel for a bit, just to raised the charge. Presto. If a charger doesn't see any voltage, it thinks there's no battery attached to it, so it won't charge. It still makes me nervous "hacking" batteries, so I'm over-watching it to make sure it doesn't swell, burst and/or catch into flames.
Thanks!! This worked perfectly! I found an old Porter Cable battery in my garage that had never been used and would not take a charge. Now it is brand new again. You the man!
