If a paper clip is too big for the jet holes, try the wire inside a twist tie from bread or stuff at the grocery store. Just peel off the plastic or paper and use the wire to gently clear the jet passages. Make sure you clean out inside of the bowl while you are doing this so that the jet does not instantly reclog itself.

Thank you so much! This was exactly the situation that I had with my Craftsman 5/22 snowblower. My father originally bought it back in the mid 90's. I had only ever cleaned the carburetor once (bought a kit as well) when my mother still owned it and I used it for clearing her long, double-wide driveway. After I inherited it, I kept in the shed out back in the summer and in my garage in the winter where it would be handy. I did the routine maintenance and always ran it for a while before moving it between seasons. In 2022, I had run it in the fall when moving it to the garage but then when I needed it after a heavy snowfall, it would not run! I dreaded having to get the kit and clean the carburetor so it has sit in the garage since. This year after several days of snow and shoveling every day, we finally had a snowstorm that dumped eight inches of snow (although it looked like more depending on where you were at). There was no way I was shoveling anymore so I decided to clean the carburetor. I got my tools, moved the snowblower and removed the cover. Then in an act of procrastination, I figured I would look up some videos as a review. The title of this video caught my eye and also the fact that the snowblower pictured looked a little older, more like the one I have. OMG - It was exactly the same situation. In a matter of minutes the snowblower was running! I cleared my driveway and sidewalk, and two of the neighbor's walks. Thank you again!

Hey Steve, my son, and Daughter bought me a used Briggs and Stratton 1150 snowblower 250cc for $300.00. The left tire was flat and the right tire was flat and off the bead. And of course, the engine would not start. So, I fixed the tires and changed the spark plug. But to no avail. I still could not start my snowblower. So, I went on RU-vid and found your video (How To A CHEAT A Snow Blower To Make It RUN). So, I took the carburetor jet out and cleaned it exactly the way you showed how and I put it back together. Now my snowblower is running like a champ. So, I had to write you a comment and say thank you, Steve!

i learned something today about snowblowers without air filters and micro drills. Steve if that were my machine there would be 3 black widows coming out of the carb area. I do not miss my tecumeh engine on my Rototiller I had to fiddle with the carb every year. Love the briggs sleved engine. Just put gas stabilizer in pull and go. As always thanks for the teaching session and saving me money.

Yep, that'll work! Now just throw some SeaFoam in the tank to finish cleaning it out. Good video, will save a lot of blowers. BTW, a set of "torch tip cleaners" is both cheaper (go to a farm store or harbor freight welding section, used to be about $2-3) and less brittle than those micro drill bits, at least if yours are like mine... I tend to snip off the first bit of useful sizes in the torch tip cleaner set so the serrated part starts right away.

Hi Steve, I like to use JB-80 instead of Carb Cleaner when doing that trick because it works as a starting fluid AND it lubricates the cylinder. I think the lubrication is especially good for an engine that's been sitting awhile...plus I think it smells good (don't laugh too hard)! ...If you have an interest, I have a video on this.

I use the B and sometimes high E string from my guitar to clean the little wholes. Obviously not everyone has old guitar strings lying around but for those that may and have no small drill bits, it's an idea. 😉 I also use non ethanol fuel and ass seafoam to my small engines to help prevent them from plugging. Great video as always Steve. Maybe show folks how to pull the sheer pins and grease the auger shaft. Many people just squeeze it into the zerk. But is is best to remove the pins and spin the shaft after greasing to ensure the shaft is fully grease. 😉

I like to put a shut off valve on the fuel lines on any piece of equipment that has gravity feed fuel supply . To prevent the gas leaching into the carb past the float valve and leaking into the engine and filling the crank case with gas. I always smell the oil dipstick for that telltale gas smell .

Hey! That's kind of brilliant! I worry about metal scoring the brass so I've used natural or plastic broom bristles and even a bristle from a tooth brush on small holes. Also aren't you supposed to not remove the main jet on some carbs and try to clean it left in place?

Tecumseh by far has some of the easiest carburetors to work on, and that is one reason why these engines are my favorite.

Gotta love an easy fix. Yep "snug" is exactly the correct torque spec for that. Lol Excellent as always brother.

Hi once again from Calgary Steve! Those old Tecumseh engines are decent engines, but man are they ever loud. There were also a few models with a defect in the main jet, it ran too lean at -30 (Tecumseh in their wisdom tried to meet emissions by just making the jet smaller and leaning it out). So I always kept the adjustable jets from older scrapped mowers just in case I needed to put in a jet that can be richened or leaned out on the fly by hand. Tecumseh parts have been becoming more and more difficult to find since they went out of business. I see yet again you are having a Yucky Lager, lol. I will continue to bug you about that. ;) Cheers!

I use a tiny safety pin for cleaning high pressure water jet tips, and it would probably work well for that, as well. it's always good to knock something like that against the bench to get the material clogging it knocked out, too. - I always want to see the bad stuff before I assume the jet is clear.

@kenbrown2808
@kenbrown2808 Год назад
@@RobWenzel84 advantage of the safety pin is when you close it, it hangs on a hook, and it has a built in handle.

@@kenbrown2808 I didn't think of that, I guess I'm gonna order an assortment of safty pins as well

@Rob Wenzel of course the hook feature won't help in a tool box... the needles probably have a finer point, too.

Great short cut to get her running, I buy snowblower just to fix up for myself and I give some away. Steve that's how I get them cheap the carbs are gunked up do to ethanol gas and laziness to drain the old fuel. You the man always enjoy your informative videos and get to see what beer your drinking lol.

I always worry about using welding tip cleaners or small drill bits, a bit of old throttle cable that's frayed out to the individual wires is my go-to. Thanks as always Steve.
