This battery reconditioning program exceeded my presumptions. It worked on any drill battery, several AA and AAA batteries batery.repair and any camera battery. The steps are simple and the act itself is exciting to do. No matter what type of battery you`ve got, it is sure to function again!

my son has a hornet 600 - the problem manifested as the battery being drained over time, thus not being able to start the engine, crank yes but no start - eventually no crank either. long story short, we checked battery (had become very bad because drainage below point of salvation), rectifier, and stator. Turns out the stator was bad. New stator and runs like a champ. Starts every time now. Son happy.

If you have a current draw that is over the factory specs start by pulling fuses to isolate the system that is causing the over draw then you can easily figure out which component in that system is the culprit by isolating them. Once you find the component you can test it or its sub components. A little trouble shooting will save you a ton of money and time in the long run.

I have a 2003 Honda sabre vt1100 with 4 speakers in the fairing 2 in each saddle back with a 300 watt amp. I ride for two hours with radio playing and it drains the battery after 2hrs of riding and playing radio. Please help
@kellymc239
@kellymc239 4 года назад
@narr narr. You are simply exceeding the available power that your stator can produce. Your bike does not have an alternator (like a car). It has something called a 'stator'. Your bike runs on this stator that generates power to run your lights, ignitor circuit (coils), and to recharge your battery. The problem you're having is that you have more electrical items drawing power than your stator can produce. Example: a stock motorcycle may have a 400 watt stator, with 350 watts of standard electrical items onboard. That leaves 50 watts to spare for add-on accessories. Here's the math: 400 watts generated - 350 watts standard accessories = 50 watts available. Ok, now, the owner adds a 200 watt amplifier for the radio. Oops. Now, there is 550 watts being drawn from the stator that only produces 400 watts. Guess where the other 150 watts is coming from? Yes. You guessed correctly. Your battery is being drained because your stator does not produce enough wattage for everything you are running. You only have two methods to repair this problem. 1. Have a custom stator made that will handle all your wattage/draws. 2. Reduce the amount of draw you have on the 'bike. Good luck.

Only pull ONE fuse at a time, and check the amp-test meter. If the fuse pulled now shows 0.00 draw, that's the circuit causing problems. Check the circuit for shorts, melted relays, pinched power wires, etc.

I just hooked a led kit up to this bike of my buddies bike he just bought its an older bike and he bought it used we put the lights on last night and this morning it almost started but didn't is it that the battery is just not a good battery? it's an older bike its a 1998...or is there something else that needs to be done to cut off power fully? Like the led kit from Amazon has a factory push button cheap on off style on the ground which that I hooked up to the actual battery ground and I hooked the positive up to the actual battery positive terminal... does it need a completely separate toggle switch on top of that whole setup also to stop the power fully or?

So I've found that since installing a remote LED light kit, my battery has been draining to the point of death after not riding my bike for only a week or so, even though the lights are off at all times unless the bike is running. Would these be able to drain a battery so quickly while not activated? Thanks in advance, and thanks for a such a well explained video!

@sexyartist
@sexyartist 7 лет назад
That's what I thought...probably a bad ground somewhere. Thanks!
@kellymc239
@kellymc239 4 года назад
@gabriel brown. The LED circuit that causes such a draw will not be 'open' or else it won't draw power. What draws power is a closed circuit: one that is USING/DRAWING power. An open circuit cannot drain power since there is no continous path to ground. Simply put, I bet you have a relay on your LED lights. That relay should be wired to ignition, NOT the battery. Move the power supply for the switch-side of the relay from the battery to ignition. That means your circuit can only get power when the key is ON, or Running. That will prevent your battery from being drained by the relay.

@Kelly MC @TheMotorcycleMD Quick question so PIN 30 should be wired to the ignition, and keep PIN 85 wired with the inline fuse to the battery right? I believe I made the same error, i wired pin 30 with a fuse straight to the battery and pin 85 with another inline fuse back to the battery

Raffy Padua That sounds like it is charging great!! When you shut the bike off measure the voltage, go back in an hour or two and recheck. If I were you I would buy a good battery tender with the pos/neg pigtails that attach to the battery and just plug it in when you can. If you can't, than yes I would disconnect the battery until you find the problem.

Good instructions. This is what happen with me this morning. This moto has been sitting down for almost 2 weeks. I attached the jumper cable to my car without cranking it up. Got the bike into running position, but before I cranked up I heard sparking sounds near the battery. Furthermore, the moto ran for a min or so. Suddenly shut off completely. I did the same procedure again, but there is nothing; no power, the fan is not running where it should be running on 98 Shadow Spirit vt1100 when you turn the key on. What is the problem? Thank you.
@rvelandi1919
@rvelandi1919 5 лет назад
A short circuit in the ground cable may caused this problem. The short caused the main fuse to blown. Repair the short and replace main fuse.
@kellymc239
@kellymc239 4 года назад
@@rvelandi1919 correct. Sounds like a main wire grounded out, and shorted the main relay or main fuse. He should fix the problem prior to installing a new relay/fuse.

@humanentity2214

Good video. I just bought an 87 Yamaha Virago. Replaced battery but it goes dead on me even after 24+ hours of trickle charger. When I retry I hear a spark sound ( no actual spark) followed by click, click, click and then dead again.
@kellymc239
@kellymc239 4 года назад
Bad connection at the battery terminal. A 'click' sound is the main relay opening due to a lack of good connection. Check your connections, make sure to add a bit of dielectric grease on the terminals. Charge the battery with a known, good charger. A 'trickle' charger will NOT charge a totally dead battery. Trickle chargers only maintain a charge that's already good. Use a proper 2 amp charger that has a current-sense capability (so as to not over-charge the battery). Then, start the bike.

What if my batt is drawing 1.02 amps?? Plz help
@kellymc239
@kellymc239 4 года назад
Start with the test shown in this video. Now, SLOWLY, and ONE BY ONE, pull a single fuse. Then, check the meter. If the 1.02 amp is still showing, put the fuse back. Pull the next fuse, and check the meter. Do this same routine until the meter reads. 0.00. When that happens, it means you just pulled the fuse from the circuit with the draw. Repair the short in that citcuit to stop the draw.

When i charge my quad bike battery i dont take the battery out to charge it i just leave it all hooked up but when its charging and if i touch the metal frame anywhere i get abit of a tingle zap sensation. I was wandering would that be from a power wire that might be hooked up to the earth by accident?
@TheMotorcycleMD
@TheMotorcycleMD 5 лет назад
Great question but no! It’s totally normal. Your body is working as a ground! That is why it is best to install and remove your battery like so: Pos = + Neg = - When ever you “remove” the cables you are “subtracting” (-) from the battery. So remove negative first. When ever you attach cables or install new battery. You are “adding” (+) to the battery. So install the positive cable first. This method should minimize any sparks or archs 👍🏻👍🏻

Hint for your future videos: don't pander to the audience (like Fox News), or treat your viewers like kids. Saying something idiotic like "....parasitic, as in parasite..." Really??? Did you think your viewers couldn't figure out that a parasitic draw was rooted in the word 'parasite'? Come on, kid. If the videos you're going to post are geared towards adults who ride & repair motorcycles, then treat those same people as adults who can understand words past 4th grade. Otherwise, you have good content in the video, & a great idea how to show power draws at the battery. Just work a bit on the presentation, without pandering to your audience.
