Thank you very much for this Oskars. This is the very problem I have on my TD5 Land Rover Defender 130 right now. I have spoken to some Land Rover specialist mechanics, and they say that the DMF will still hold together, even in its poor condition, as to help you get around until you can get another one. Thank you for the information too, especially for testing the oscillation run out and tolerance level, as that is definitely good to know. Sincerely, Matthew
Thanks for this, I haven't done a lot of work on modern cars and have been given a clutch job on a car with a DMF and didn't know how to measure this. I'll be checking this tomorrow!
Good video, well explained. So many videos out there that say if there any rotational play then your DMF needs to be replaced. I know that's rubbish - as you have pointed out it's how much play is what matters, brand new ones all exhibit some play before 'hooking up'
I just removed the gearbox and clutch on my friend's car and was wondering if it was normal for the flywheel to have so much free movement. It's my first clutch change that involves a DMF so this is exactly the kind of information I was looking for. Thank you very much!
Great simple explanation. I really appreciate you taking the time, more people need to see videos like this… that simply get to the point and give you the data needed to complete the task! Thankyou!
Thanks for the video. I need to decide if I need to use a new dmf. In my case it's almost identical to my new one in play etc. So I may send the new one back.
I have a Skoda Octavia DMF ZSB06J105266PE, 52000klms, it has 5 teeth play, nothing wrong with the DMF as a wrecked vehicle, the real way to do it would be to bolt it to a fixed plate and use a torque wrench as you want to test spring tension, Manufacturers have test data, its Like testing valve springs certain weight v travel.
In this video you see method for freeplay, number of teeth depends on vehicle, for example, Volvo D5 engine, freeplay is up to 6 teeth, and it is manufacturer specified. Measuring spring resistance is another story.
After four months of using the new SACHS set (clutch, dual mass flywheel), noises started after pressing the clutch pedal. I bought the old 22 years with the course of 300 thousand kilometers, the LUK two-mass flywheel in perfect condition. I wonder if this is the fault of incorrect installation or very low quality SACHS wheels.
Thank you, very helpful. I am curious about changing my 2006 BMW Z4 3.0si flywheel from a dual mass to a solid flywheel. I have seen comments that it can impact drivability negatively. Any comments on that aspect?
You will likely feel more vibration the dmf was designed to smooth out power impulses from the cylinders. I personally think it's an exceptable traid off.
these flywheels are a disaster, constantly failing and the car owner pays out again and again, i replace with single mass flywheels and i have never had a fail with any of them.
Hy. Nice work. I need some help. Please tell me what that vaccum dose ? I've found the vaccum line down to the egr broken and I don't know for how long it wose like that. Or wen suppose to work ? Because I don't feel vaccum at all on the line. Thank you in advance

Greetings, thanks for the video! MK6 DSG GTI, intermittent issue hope you can help. Reverse gear won't engage, this maybe happens once every 400 miles. This has been ongoing for the past couple months. When it happens I turn the car off and back on and reverse works again no problem. Yesterday I found a pool of oil under the car. It's all over my pendulum mount. Pretty sure it's the main seal. I bought new upgraded clutch packs to hopefully solve the reverse issue and a main seal upgraded part. Should I expect a flywheel replacement too? The car has 130k miles on it. Anybody?
Hello mate I have a question,, I've got cluch out my st170 the dmf seems fine I've done wat u did with marking it it only turns past 3 teeth if that?? Also the front plate ther isn't really any play just little movements wat u think thanks steve I've subscribed and liked
Hi.... my astra cdti 1.9 120bhp was having problems starting..[ seemed like battery was draining ] so took it to garage about start up issue... they said my flywheel is knackered and is to blame .... car when started drived fine ... once got it back from garage can hear a big banging noice and clutch is now crunching .... took it back and he said it's the flywheel ... seems odd all this happened after they looked at it or just a coincidence..... can a bad flywheel stop car from starting
