Choosing a 4G antenna can be a daunting process. Should it be waterproof? Impact proof? Vandal-proof? How are these things defined? And how about omnidirectional or directional? In this video, we simplify the process of buying your LTE antenna as much as possible to give you the leg up in the buying process you’ve been looking for.
Though we recommend Poynting antennas, you can take these principles and apply them to any antenna you find online.
Marine antennas:
- Omnidirectional
- IP68 rated
- IK10 rated
- High gain
Our recommendation: OMNI-291 (use a pair of these spaced 60cm apart for best performance)
link: www.netxl.com/marine-antennas...
Automotive antennas:
- Omnidirectional
- IP65+ rated
- IK10 rated
- Medium gain
Our recommendation: MIMO-3-V2-15 or MIMO-3-V2-12
link: www.netxl.com/vehicle-antenna...
Fixed Wireless Access - Rural:
- Directional
- Medium-high gain
- IP65 rated
Our recommendation: XPOL-2-5G
link: www.netxl.com/directional-ant...
Fixed Wireless Access - Urban:
- Omnidirectional
- Small in size, big on performance
- Low-medium gain
- IP65 rated (if mounting outside)
Our recommendation: XPOL-1-5G

A little advice in orientation of an external omni-directional antenna would be great I bought the ponyting A-xpol-0001-v2-21 2x2 lte mounted it outside and connected it to my new huawei b525 router and it does absolutely nothing ,yet if i mount it indoors on a window I get download speeds of 110 mbps,the aerial is clearly adjustable in orientation on the mounting bracket and there is no advice online or youtube in mounting /orientation of the Ariel outside. for such an expensive product you would think that there would be some better advice out there.

I have a motorhome, can i add to my tv pole (wich i dont use the tv antenna) an omni-directional antenna and a directional to a router? Will the router use the directional and if the directional is not perfect allign will the omni-directional receive the rest of the signal? I hope you can understand me. Thank you

Hi. Based on this video I have bought the Poynting XPOL-1 V2 5G 3dBi Omni-Directional Cross Polarised LTE 2x2 MIMO Outdoor Antenna to use with my Nighthawk MR2100-100EUS in my caravan here in the UK and Europe. I am very pleased with the performance of the Poynting and I do realise that an Omni is never going to give the same improvement as a directional antenna. However, would there be any realistic improvement in replacing the 5m of RF195 cable the antenna comes fitted with, with RF240 cable and is it something that can be done at home? Thank you.

Hi Steve! We wouldn't recommend replacing the factory fitted cable as this will void the warranty that comes from the manufacturer, and due to the sensitive nature of coaxial cables, it's not recommended to replace this yourself - we've had people do this in the past and make things much worse!

Hello. Thanks for perfect video. I have question regarding antenna. Can I use only one antenna MIMO for two LTE/5G modems? I mean each modem has 2 antenna connector but I will use only one antenna connector for each modem with one common antenna Poynting MIMO-3-12 LTE. Does it make sense? Or it is much better to use MIMO configuration - one modem- one external antena connected via 2 cables? Thank you in advance for your reply

Hi Peter! Although possible to use a single antenna connection in a single port for each device I wouldn’t recommend this as ultimately this will greatly impact the performance of the antenna. And you would experience a far greater effect when connecting the MIMO antenna via the two connectors to a single device. What is possible however, is Poynting have a 4x4 MIMO antenna with 4x SMA connectors, by using this you can have both of your modems connected using both of their SMA antenna ports. Once again, you wouldn’t hypothetically get the most out of the antenna, but you would expect to get a greater performance than just using a single port

@@jaderuysseveldt2152 Many thanks for your reply. I found this solution as well it looks perfect. In my country we are using 700MHz for 5G network and i feel that all antennas are less sensitive in this band. However i think MIMO 3-14 is quite usable also for 700MHz. Not so strong but it is. I need it for motorcycle/ car :)

Hi I have Poynting 2x2 Mimo connected to my Teltonika RUTX11 router. Can you recommend the Wi-Fi antenna for this router please? B.R.Alex
@NetXL-Official

Hey! There are Poynting antennas that come with LTE & WiFi connectors (for example, PUCK-5 or MIMO-3-V2-15) which would be perfect for a RUTX11. This means you'll only need one antenna. Please give us a call on 0330 043 3000 if you need any help selecting the right one for you :)

Thank you for prompt reply. As I mentioned before I already have the Poynting antenna to get a signal from the tower. I am happy with this and don't want to spend more money for combined. I just need wi-fi antenna if you have so

Hi! I see your vids, but this too complicate for me. I need a directed 4G antenna to connect other tower, becouse my router always connect to strong (4) signal of busy tower. I have 4 signal and 300k download speed in the evening. In the morning is 15M. Can you recommend a type of directed antenna please?
@NetXL-Official
@NetXL-Official 2 года назад
Does your router have two lte/cellular connectors? If it does, Poynting's XPOL-2-5G is a safe option, and usually the one we recommend. But the following considerations are still important: How far is the tower you need to connect to? You'll need to check that your MNO definitely operates on the further tower (you may have done this already).

What about if you receive a great mobile signal via mobile phone in an area with trees and no line of sight to mast. Would omnidirectional be best in these situations

Did you pick an antenna? I’m in the same situation. Rural area but can’t see the 4G tower.

@@ZaneOnPC I installed a cat18 mikrotik lhg lte. A directional dish router modem. I'm 30km away from the tower. No other device will work unless you want to pay that starlink premium.

Don't waste your time with poynting or similar products ran over coaxial in these conditions. Either the mikrotik or the zyxel 5g nr (backwards compatible to 4g)would do the trick.
