Pilot Misty you're right about doing your due diligence and looking into the schools. At the moment I'm going through the paces to get my PPL. The one thing that I can add to this is that when looking at the school, and the instructors is that most of those instructors have the intention to just get their hours as a stepping stone to get to the next part of their piloting journey. I've personally found that when picking an instructor with that sort of intention wasn't the fit for myself personally. I get it that everyone needs to start somewhere, but personally I found that if the student could find an instructor that doesn't need the hours to push you through, the experience and the knowledge that instructor could provide to the student will be by far better and more substantial towards the students flying career. Those instructors in particular will take the time to explain things, answer questions and most times not be on the clock doing these things because they are plainly doing it because of the love and passion for the industry itself to see you succeed. I'm not saying that all instructors are verbatim like this but there are common patterns. What works for myself might not work for others, maybe I'm just adding a different perspective. I ran a business for while and over that time you really get to learn how to read people and maybe that experience is speaking here. Keep up the great videos and clearly it's apparent that you have a fond passion for this industry.

You’re absolutely correct about it. It is true, most people are in it for the hours, and once they get the hours they take off. Finding someone who has lots of experience is definitely a great choice. But unfortunately it isn’t widely available. My recommendation is in that case, to find someone who is class 1 or 2 instructor, so they know what they are doing and def know how to teach someone as well. Thank you for this comment! Great insight. 😊

@@pilotmitsy I'm an instructor from Australia (Grade 1 ME-IFR with 5000 hrs dual given). I have worked with hundreds of instructors over the last 20 years. Some of the very best were very low time instructors, some of the worst were very high time instructors. Some of the best low timers I have worked with made up for their lack of experiance with dedication and effort - as long as they have a good senior instructor (or chief pilot/chief instructor) as a mentor/supervisor and a good mentoring/supervision system is in place by the flight school.
@pilotmitsy
@pilotmitsy Год назад
@@Ozgrade3 that’s good to know. I personally did get pretty unlucky and was in a situation that was dangerous, and my new instructor was unable to recognize the issue. I happened to switch my instructor after the incident happened, and was corrected by someone who had lots more experience, he was able to recognize the problem very quickly. It was pretty soul crushing for me, as a very new pilot who had not even soloed yet. I had to take some time off flying to feel confident and to be doing it all over again. Result of it was more money and time.

happy i came across your video one thing I noticed researching is the cost is the same at the flight schools around my area. 1 however added to your point in the first video i watched that to add another 30 hours above the 45 which seemed honest and refreshing this is daunting. I want to learn in a Cherokee but noone has them so there is an option in the cessna 172 steam guage or Garmin 1000. now since I want to fly a Cherokee would I be better off with steam guages or because of the evolution of the cocpit should I learn on the glass panel. thats a tough decision because the cost over all is significant. Im 60 so yes I want my PPL but i would love to teach as a CFI the cost of PPL and CPL is the same the only reason to have at my age a CPL would be to have it if i remember you need 250 hrs flight time. im to old for airlines or cargo but maybe humanitarion missions at my age might be a better fit also working with veterans in remote rural comunities to get them to their appointments oor just take them up to relieve some stress. of course as a CFI I could work with them to get their pilots licence. the CPL i guess would pretty much be able to charge for services where you cannot as a PPL. enough ramblling from me thank you for your time and your video content.
@pilotmitsy

Hi there! I would go with the Cessna 172 steam gauge, and thank you, I appreciate that. With the Cessna you won’t be paying as higher of a price that u have to pay for a fancy gps glass panel. Also if your plan is to instruct others, it is easily accepted in a Cessna to train others verses the glass panel. You don’t have to break your bank account for it, you can upgrade later once you have your licenses. Hope this helps!

Hi there, yes it’s possible. You can join a flying school in Toronto to do your PPL, and then move to BC to finish CPL, if you wanted to. University programs are different, and you will have to do it all in one place, it’s a bit more complex to transfer universities, if you pick that route. Hope this helps!
